1 E phraim herds and feeds on the wind and pursues the east wind; every day he increases lies and violence, and a covenant is made with Assyria and oil is carried to Egypt.

Efraín se apacienta de viento, y sigue al solano; todo el día multiplica mentiras y destrucción; porque hacen un pacto con los asirios, y el aceite se lleva a Egipto.

2 T he Lord has also a controversy (a pleading contention) with Judah, and will punish Jacob by visiting upon him according to his ways; according to his doings will He recompense him.

También tiene Jehová pleito con Judá, y castigará a Jacob conforme a sus caminos; le pagará conforme a sus obras.

3 H e took his brother by the heel in womb, and in the strength he contended and had power with God.

En el seno materno tomó por el calcañar a su hermano, y con su fuerza luchó con un ser divino.

4 Y es, he had power over the Angel and prevailed; he wept and sought His favor. He met Him in Bethel, and there spoke with us—

Luchó con el ángel, y prevaleció; lloró, y le rogó; en Betel le halló, y allí habló con nosotros.

5 E ven the Lord the God of hosts, the name of Him is the Lord.

Mas Jehová es Dios de los ejércitos; Jehová es su nombre.

6 T herefore return to your God! Hold fast to love and mercy, to righteousness and justice, and wait for your God continually!

Tú, pues, vuélvete a tu Dios; guarda misericordia y juicio, y espera siempre en tu Dios.

7 C anaan is a trader; the balances of deceit are in his hand; he loves to oppress and defraud.

En cuanto al mercader, tiene en su mano una balanza falsa; le gusta oprimir.

8 E phraim has said, Ah, but I have become rich; I have gained for myself wealth. All my profits shall bring on me no iniquity that would be sin.

Efraín dijo: Ciertamente me he enriquecido, he hallado riquezas para mí; nadie hallará en mí iniquidad que sea pecado, en todos mis trabajos.

9 B ut I am the Lord your God from the land of Egypt will yet make you to dwell in tents, as in the days of the appointed and solemn Feast.

Pero yo soy Jehová tu Dios desde la tierra de Egipto; aún te haré morar en tiendas, como en los días de la fiesta.

10 I have also spoken to the prophets, and I have multiplied visions and through parables acted out by the prophets.

Y he hablado a los profetas, y multipliqué las visiones, y por medio de los profetas usé parábolas.

11 I f Gilead is given over to idolatry, they shall come to nought and be mere waste; if they sacrificing bullocks in Gilgal, their altars shall be like heaps in the furrows of the fields.

En Galaad todo es iniquidad y mentira; en Gilgal sacrifican a toros, y sus altares serán como montones en los surcos del campo.

12 J acob fled into the open country of Aram or Padan-aram, and Israel served for a wife, and for a wife he herded sheep.

Y Jacob huyó a tierra de Aram; Israel sirvió para adquirir mujer, y por adquirir mujer fue pastor.

13 A nd by a prophet the Lord brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet was preserved.

Y por medio de un profeta, Jehová hizo subir a Israel de Egipto, y por medio de un profeta fue guardado.

14 E phraim has provoked most bitter anger; therefore shall his blood be left upon him, and his disgrace and reproach shall his Lord return upon him.

Efraín ha provocado muy amargamente; por tanto, hará recaer sobre él su sangre, y su Señor le devolverá su ultraje.
