Así acudió el pueblo a Baal-peor; y el furor de Jehová se encendió contra Israel.

4 A nd the Lord said to Moses, Take all the leaders or chiefs of the people, and hang them before the Lord in the sun, that the fierce anger of the Lord may turn away from Israel.

Y Jehová dijo a Moisés: Toma a todos los príncipes del pueblo, y ahórcalos ante Jehová delante del sol, y el ardor de la ira de Jehová se apartará de Israel.

5 A nd Moses said to the judges of Israel, Each one of you slay his men who joined themselves to Baal of Peor.

Entonces Moisés dijo a los jueces de Israel: Matad cada uno a aquellos de los vuestros que se han juntado con Baal-peor.

6 A nd behold, one of the Israelites came and brought to his brethren a Midianite woman in the sight of Moses and of all the congregation of Israel while they were weeping at the door of the Tent of Meeting.

Y he aquí un varón de los hijos de Israel vino y trajo una madianita a sus hermanos, a ojos de Moisés y de toda la congregación de los hijos de Israel, mientras lloraban ellos a la puerta del tabernáculo de reunión.

Entonces Jehová habló a Moisés, diciendo:

Fineés hijo de Eleazar, hijo del sacerdote Aarón, ha hecho apartar mi furor de los hijos de Israel, llevado de celo entre ellos; por lo cual yo no he consumido en mi celo a los hijos de Israel.

12 T herefore say, Behold, I give to Phinehas the priest My covenant of peace.

Por tanto diles: He aquí yo establezco mi pacto de paz con él;

13 A nd he shall have it, and his descendants after him, the covenant of an everlasting priesthood, because he was jealous for his God and made atonement for the Israelites.

y tendrá él, y su descendencia después de él, el pacto del sacerdocio perpetuo, por cuanto tuvo celo por su Dios e hizo expiación por los hijos de Israel.

14 N ow the man of Israel who was slain with the Midianite woman was Zimri son of Salu, a head of a father’s house among the Simeonites.

Y el nombre del varón que fue muerto con la madianita era Zimrí hijo de Salú, jefe de una familia de la tribu de Simeón.

15 A nd the Midianite woman who was slain was Cozbi daughter of Zur; he was head of a father’s house in Midian.

Y el nombre de la mujer madianita muerta era Cozbí hija de Zur, príncipe de pueblos, padre de familia en Madián.

16 A nd the Lord said to Moses,

Y Jehová habló a Moisés, diciendo:

17 P rovoke hostilities with the Midianites and attack them,

Hostigad a los madianitas, y heridlos,

18 F or they harass you with their wiles with which they have beguiled you in the matter of Peor, and of Cozbi, the daughter of the prince of Midian, their sister, who was slain on the day of the plague in the matter of Peor.

por cuanto ellos os afligieron a vosotros con sus ardides con que os han engañado en lo tocante a Baal-peor, y en lo tocante a Cozbí hija del príncipe de Madián, su hermana, la cual fue muerta el día de la mortandad por causa de Baal-peor.
