1 A fter Jesus had finished all that He had to say in the hearing of the people, He entered Capernaum.

¶ Y como acabó todas sus palabras oyéndole el pueblo, entró en Capernaum.

2 N ow a centurion had a bond servant who was held in honor and highly valued by him, who was sick and at the point of death.

Y el siervo de un centurión, al cual tenía él en estima, estaba enfermo y a punto de morir.

3 A nd when the centurion heard of Jesus, he sent some Jewish elders to Him, requesting Him to come and make his bond servant well.

Y cuando oyó hablar de JESÚS, envió a él los ancianos de los judíos, rogándole que viniera y librara a su siervo.

4 A nd when they reached Jesus, they begged Him earnestly, saying, He is worthy that You should do this for him,

Y viniendo ellos a Jesús, le rogaron con diligencia, diciéndole: Porque es digno de concederle esto;

5 F or he loves our nation and he built us our synagogue.

que ama nuestra nación, y él nos edificó una sinagoga.

6 A nd Jesus went with them. But when He was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to Him, saying, Lord, do not trouble, for I am not sufficiently worthy to have You come under my roof;

Y Jesús fue con ellos. Pero cuando ya no estaban lejos de su casa, envió el centurión amigos a él, diciéndole: Señor, no te incomodes, que no soy digno que entres debajo de mi tejado;

7 N either did I consider myself worthy to come to You. But speak a word, and my servant boy will be healed.

por lo cual ni aun me tuve por digno de venir a ti; mas di la palabra, y mi siervo será sano.

8 F or I also am a man subject to authority, with soldiers under me. And I say to one, Go, and he goes; and to another, Come, and he comes; and to my bond servant, Do this, and he does it.

Porque también yo soy hombre puesto en potestad, que tengo debajo de mí soldados; y digo a éste: Ve, y va; y al otro: Ven, y viene; y a mi siervo: Haz esto, y lo hace.

9 N ow when Jesus heard this, He marveled at him, and He turned and said to the crowd that followed Him, I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such great faith.

Lo cual oyendo Jesús, se maravilló de él, y vuelto, dijo a las personas que le seguían: Os digo que ni aun en Israel he hallado tanta fe.

10 A nd when the messengers who had been sent returned to the house, they found the bond servant who had been ill quite well again.

Y vueltos a casa los que habían sido enviados, hallaron sano al siervo que había estado enfermo.

11 S oon afterward, Jesus went to a town called Nain, and His disciples and a great throng accompanied Him.

¶ Y aconteció el día después, que él iba a la ciudad que se llama Naín, e iban con él muchos de sus discípulos, y gran multitud.

12 a s He drew near the gate of the town, behold, a man who had died was being carried out—the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; and a large gathering from the town was accompanying her.

Cuando llegó cerca de la puerta de la ciudad, he aquí que llevaban fuera a un difunto, unigénito de su madre, la cual también era viuda; y había con ella grande compañía de la ciudad.

13 A nd when the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, Do not weep.

Y cuando el Señor la vio, se compadeció de ella, y le dijo: No llores.

14 A nd He went forward and touched the funeral bier, and the pallbearers stood still. And He said, Young man, I say to you, arise '> from death]!

Y acercándose, tocó el féretro; y los que lo llevaban, pararon. Y dice: Joven, a ti digo, levántate.

15 A nd the man dead sat up and began to speak. And gave him to his mother.

Entonces se incorporó el que había muerto, y comenzó a hablar. Y lo dio a su madre.

16 P rofound and reverent fear seized them all, and they began to recognize God and praise and give thanks, saying, A great Prophet has appeared among us! And God has visited His people!

Y todos tuvieron miedo, y glorificaban a Dios, diciendo: Que un gran profeta se ha levantado entre nosotros; y que Dios ha visitado a su pueblo.

17 A nd this report concerning spread through the whole of Judea and all the country round about.

Y salió esta palabra de él por toda Judea, y por toda la tierra de alrededor.

18 A nd John’s disciples brought him word of all these things.

Y los discípulos de Juan le dieron las nuevas de todas estas cosas; y llamó Juan a dos de sus discípulos,

19 A nd John summoned to him a certain two of his disciples and sent them to the Lord, saying, Are You He Who is to come, or shall we look for another?

¶ y envió a Jesús, diciendo: ¿Eres tú aquel que había de venir, o esperaremos a otro?

20 S o the men came to Jesus and said, John the Baptist sent us to You to ask, Are You the One Who is to come, or shall we look for another?

Y como los hombres vinieron a él, dijeron: Juan el Bautista nos ha enviado a ti, diciendo: ¿Eres tú aquel que había de venir, o esperaremos a otro?

21 I n that very hour Jesus was healing many of sicknesses and distressing bodily plagues and evil spirits, and to many who were blind He gave '> a free, gracious, joy-giving gift of] sight.

Y en la misma hora sanó a muchos de enfermedades y plagas, y de espíritus malos; y a muchos ciegos dio la vista.

22 S o He replied to them, Go and tell John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the good news (the Gospel) preached to them.

Y respondiendo Jesús, les dijo: Id, dad las nuevas a Juan de lo que habéis visto y oído: que los ciegos ven, los cojos andan, los leprosos son limpiados, los sordos oyen, los muertos resucitan, a los pobres es anunciado el Evangelio:

23 A nd blessed (happy— with life-joy and satisfaction in God’s favor and salvation, apart from outward conditions—and to be envied) is he who takes no offense in Me and who is not hurt or resentful or annoyed or repelled or made to stumble '> whatever may occur].

y bienaventurado es el que no fuere escandalizado en mí.

24 A nd the messengers of John having departed, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John: What did you go out into the desert to gaze on? A reed shaken and swayed by the wind?

Cuando se fueron los mensajeros de Juan, comenzó a hablar de Juan a la multitud: ¿Qué salisteis a ver al desierto? ¿Una caña que es agitada por el viento?

25 T hen what did you go out to see? A man dressed up in soft garments? Behold, those who wear fine apparel and live in luxury are in the courts or palaces of kings.

Mas ¿qué salisteis a ver? ¿Un hombre cubierto de vestidos delicados? He aquí, los que están en vestido precioso, y viven en delicias, en los palacios de los reyes están.

26 W hat then did you go out to see? A prophet (a forthteller)? Yes, I tell you, and far more than a prophet.

Mas ¿qué salisteis a ver? ¿Un profeta? También os digo, y aun más que profeta.

27 T his is the one of whom it is written, Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, who shall make ready Your way before You.

Este es de quien está escrito: He aquí, envío mi ángel delante de tu faz, El cual aparejará tu camino delante de ti.

28 I tell you, among those born of women there is no one greater than John; but he that is inferior in the kingdom of God is greater than he.

Porque os digo que entre los nacidos de mujeres, no hay mayor profeta que Juan el Bautista; mas el más pequeño en el Reino de Dios es mayor que él.

29 A nd all the people who heard Him, even the tax collectors, acknowledged the justice of God '> calling them to repentance and in pronouncing future wrath on the impenitent], being baptized with the baptism of John.

Y todo el pueblo oyéndole, y los publicanos, justificaron a Dios, bautizándose con el bautismo de Juan.

30 B ut the Pharisees and the lawyers annulled and rejected and brought to nothing God’s purpose concerning themselves, by not being baptized by him.

Mas los fariseos y los sabios de la ley, desecharon el consejo de Dios contra sí mismos, no siendo bautizados de él.

31 S o to what shall I compare the men of this generation? And what are they like?

Y dice el Señor: ¿A quién, pues, compararé los hombres de esta generación, y a qué son semejantes?

32 T hey are like little children sitting in the marketplace, calling to one another and saying, We piped to you, and you did not dance; we sang dirges and wailed, and you did not weep.

Semejantes son a los muchachos sentados en la plaza, y que dan voces los unos a los otros, y dicen: Os tañimos con flautas, y no bailasteis; os endechamos, y no llorasteis.

33 F or John the Baptist has come neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, He has a demon.

Porque vino Juan el Bautista, que ni comía pan, ni bebía vino, y decís: Demonio tiene.

34 T he Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, Behold, a Man Who is a glutton and a wine drinker, a friend of tax collectors and notorious sinners.

Vino el Hijo del hombre, que come y bebe, y decís: He aquí un hombre comilón, y bebedor de vino, amigo de publicanos y de pecadores.

35 Y et wisdom is vindicated ( shown to be true and divine) by all her children '> by their life, character, and deeds].

Mas la sabiduría es justificada de todos sus hijos.

36 O ne of the Pharisees asked Jesus to dine with him, and He went into the Pharisee’s house and reclined at table.

¶ Y le rogó uno de los fariseos, que comiera con él. Y entrado en casa del fariseo, se sentó a la mesa.

37 A nd behold, a woman of the town who was an especially wicked sinner, when she learned that He was reclining at table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of ointment (perfume).

Y he aquí una mujer que había sido pecadora en la ciudad, cuando entendió que estaba a la mesa en casa de aquel fariseo, trajo un alabastro de ungüento,

38 A nd standing behind Him at His feet weeping, she began to wet His feet with tears; and she wiped them with the hair of her head and kissed His feet and anointed them with the ointment (perfume).

Y estando detrás a sus pies, comenzó llorando a regar con lágrimas sus pies, y los limpiaba con los cabellos de su cabeza; y besaba sus pies, y los ungía con el ungüento.

39 N ow when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw it, he said to himself, If this Man were a prophet, He would surely know who and what sort of woman this is who is touching Him—for she is a notorious sinner (a social outcast, devoted to sin).

Y como vio esto el fariseo que le había convidado, habló entre sí, diciendo: Este, si fuera profeta, conocería quién y cuál es la mujer que le toca, que es pecadora.

40 A nd Jesus, replying, said to him, Simon, I have something to say to you. And he answered, Teacher, say it.

Entonces respondiendo Jesús, le dijo: Simón, una cosa tengo que decirte. Y él dice: Di, Maestro.

41 A certain lender of money had two debtors: one owed him five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.

Un acreedor tenía dos deudores: el uno le debía quinientos denarios, y el otro cincuenta;

42 W hen they had no means of paying, he freely forgave them both. Now which of them will love him more?

y no teniendo ellos con qué pagar, soltó la deuda a ambos. Di, pues, ¿cuál de éstos le amará más?

43 S imon answered, The one, I take it, for whom he forgave and cancelled more. And Jesus said to him, You have decided correctly.

Y respondiendo Simón, dijo: Pienso que aquel al cual soltó más. Y él le dijo: Rectamente has juzgado.

44 T hen turning toward the woman, He said to Simon, Do you see this woman? When I came into your house, you gave Me no water for My feet, but she has wet My feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair.

Y vuelto a la mujer, dijo a Simón: ¿Ves esta mujer? Entré en tu casa, no diste agua para mis pies; y ésta ha regado mis pies con lágrimas, y los ha limpiado con los cabellos de su cabeza.

45 Y ou gave Me no kiss, but she from the moment I came in has not ceased '> intermittently] to kiss My feet tenderly and caressingly.

No me diste beso, y ésta, desde que entré, no ha cesado de besar mis pies.

46 Y ou did not anoint My head with oil, but she has anointed My feet with perfume.

No ungiste mi cabeza con óleo; y ésta ha ungido con ungüento mis pies.

47 T herefore I tell you, her sins, many, are forgiven her—because she has loved much. But he who is forgiven little loves little.

Por lo cual te digo que sus muchos pecados le son perdonados, porque amó mucho; mas al que se perdona poco, poco ama.

48 A nd He said to her, Your sins are forgiven!

Y a ella dijo: Los pecados te son perdonados.

49 T hen those who were at table with Him began to say among themselves, Who is this Who even forgives sins?

Y los que estaban juntamente sentados a la mesa, comenzaron a decir entre sí: ¿Quién es éste, que también perdona pecados?

50 B ut Jesus said to the woman, Your faith has saved you; go (enter) into peace '> in freedom from all the distresses that are experienced as the result of sin].

Y dijo a la mujer: Tu fe te ha salvado, ve en paz.
