1 H ow solitary and lonely sits the city that was full of people! How like a widow has she become! She who was great among the nations and princess among the provinces has become a tributary!

2 S he weeps bitterly in the night, and her tears are on her cheeks. Among all her lovers (allies) she has no one to comfort her. All her friends have dealt treacherously with her; they have become her enemies.

3 J udah has gone into exile from the affliction and laborious servitude. She dwells among the nations, but she finds no rest; all her persecutors overtook her amid the straits.

4 T he roads to Zion mourn, because no one comes to the solemn assembly or the appointed feasts. All her gates are desolate, her priests sigh and groan, her maidens are grieved and vexed, and she herself is in bitterness.
Dálet: Las calzadas de Sion tienen luto, porque no hay quien venga a las solemnidades; todas sus puertas están asoladas, sus sacerdotes gimen, sus vírgenes afligidas, y ella tiene amargura.
5 H er adversaries have become the head; her enemies prosper. For the Lord has afflicted her for the multitude of her transgressions; her young children have gone into captivity before the enemy.
He: Sus enemigos han sido hechos cabeza, sus aborrecedores fueron prosperados; porque el SEÑOR la afligió por la multitud de sus rebeliones; sus niños fueron en cautividad delante del enemigo.
6 F rom the Daughter of Zion all her beauty and majesty have departed. Her princes have become like harts that find no pasture; they have fled without strength before the pursuer.
Vau: Se fue de la hija de Sion toda su hermosura; sus príncipes fueron como ciervos que no hallan pasto, y anduvieron sin fortaleza delante del perseguidor.
7 J erusalem remembers in the days of her affliction, in the days of her wanderings and her bitterness, all the pleasant and precious things that she had from the days of old. When her people fell into and at the hands of the adversary, and there was none to help her, the enemy looked at her, and they mocked at her desolations and downfall.

8 J erusalem has grievously sinned; therefore she has become an unclean thing and has been removed. All who honored her despise her, because they have seen her nakedness; yes, she herself groans and sighs and turns away.

9 H er filthiness was in and on her skirts; she did not consider her final end. Therefore she has come down singularly and astonishingly; she has no comforter. O Lord, look at my affliction, for the enemy has magnified himself!
Tet: Sus inmundicias están en sus faldas; no se acordó de su postrimería; por tanto, ella ha descendido sorprendentemente, no tiene consolador. Mira, oh SEÑOR, mi aflicción, porque el enemigo se ha engrandecido.
10 T he adversary has spread out his hand upon all her precious and desirable things; for she has seen the nations enter her sanctuary — when You commanded that they should not even enter Your congregation.
Yod: Extendió su mano el enemigo a todas sus cosas preciosas; y ella vio a los gentiles entrar en su santuario, de los cuales mandaste que no entraran en tu congregación.
11 A ll her people groan and sigh, seeking for bread; they have given their desirable and precious things for food to revive their strength and bring back life. See, O Lord, and consider how wretched and lightly esteemed, how vile and abominable, I have become!
Caf: Todo su pueblo buscó su pan suspirando; dieron por la comida todas sus cosas preciosas, para entretener la vida. Mira, oh SEÑOR, y ve que soy tornada vil.
12 I s it nothing to you, all you who pass by? Look and see if there is any sorrow like my sorrow which was dealt out to me, with which the Lord has afflicted me in the day of His fierce anger!
Lámed: ¿No os conmueve a cuantos pasáis por el camino? Mirad, y ved si hay dolor como mi dolor que me ha venido; porque el SEÑOR me ha angustiado en el día de la ira de su furor.
13 F rom above He has sent fire into my bones, and it prevailed against them. He has spread a net for my feet; He has turned me back. He has made me hopelessly miserable and faint all the day long.
Mem: Desde lo alto envió fuego en mis huesos, el cual se enseñoreó; extendió red a mis pies, me tornó atrás, me puso asolada, y que siempre tenga dolor.
14 T he yoke of my transgressions is bound by His hand; they were twined together; they were set upon my neck. He has made my strength fail and stumble; the Lord has delivered me into the hands of those I am unable to resist or withstand.
Nun: El yugo de mis rebeliones está ligado en su mano; entretejidas han subido sobre mi cerviz; ha hecho caer mis fuerzas; me ha entregado el Señor en manos de donde no podré levantarme.
15 T he Lord has made of no account all my mighty men in the midst of me; He has proclaimed a set time against me to crush my young men. The Lord has trodden as in a winepress the Virgin Daughter of Judah.
Sámec: El Señor ha hollado todos mis fuertes en medio de mí; llamó contra mi compañía para quebrantar mis jóvenes, como lagar ha pisado el Señor a la Virgen hija de Judá.
16 F or these things I weep; my eyes overflow with tears, because a comforter, one who could refresh and restore my soul, is far from me. My children are desolate and perishing, for the enemy has prevailed.
Ayin: Por esta causa yo lloro; mis ojos, mis ojos fluyen aguas; porque se alejó de mí el consolador que dé reposo a mi alma. Mis hijos son destruidos, porque el enemigo prevaleció.
17 Z ion stretches forth her hands, but there is no comforter for her. The Lord has commanded concerning and against Jacob that his neighbors should be his adversaries; Jerusalem has become a filthy thing among them.
Pe: Sion extendió sus manos; no tiene consolador; el SEÑOR dio mandamiento contra Jacob, que sus enemigos lo cercaran; Jerusalén fue en abominación entre ellos.
18 T he Lord is righteous (just and in the right); for I have rebelled against His commandment (His word). Hear, I pray you, all you peoples, and look at my sorrow and suffering; my maidens and my young men have gone into captivity.

19 I called to my lovers, but they deceived me. My priests and my elders expired in the city while they sought food to save their lives.
Cof: Di voces a mis amadores, mas ellos me han engañado. Mis sacerdotes y mis ancianos en la ciudad perecieron buscando comida para sí con que entretener su vida.
20 B ehold, O Lord, how distressed I am! My vital parts (emotions) are in tumult and are deeply disturbed; my heart cannot rest and is violently agitated within me, for I have grievously rebelled. Outside the house the sword bereaves, at home there is death!
Resh: Mira, oh SEÑOR, que estoy atribulada; mis entrañas rugen, mi corazón está trastornado en medio de mí; porque me rebelé desaforadamente; de fuera me desahijó la espada, de dentro aparece la muerte.
21 h ave heard that I sigh and groan, that I have no comforter. All my enemies have heard of my trouble; they are glad that You have done it. You will bring the day that you have foretold and proclaimed; and they will become like me.
Sin: Oyeron que gemía, y no hay consolador para mí. Todos mis enemigos han oído mi mal, se alegraron porque tú lo hiciste. Trajiste el día que señalaste, mas serán como yo.
22 L et all their wickedness come before You; and deal with them as You have dealt with me because of all my transgressions; for my sighs and groans are many and my heart is faint.
Tau: Entre delante de ti toda su maldad, y haz con ellos como hiciste conmigo por todas mis rebeliones. Porque muchos son mis suspiros, y mi corazón está dolorido.
