1 T hen Boaz went up to the city’s gate and sat down there, and behold, the kinsman of whom Boaz had spoken came by. He said to him, Ho! Turn aside and sit down here. So he turned aside and sat down.

¶ Y Booz subió a la puerta y se sentó allí: y he aquí pasaba aquel redentor del cual Booz había hablado, y le dijo: Eh, fulano, ven acá y siéntate. Y él vino, y se sentó.

2 A nd Boaz took ten men of the elders of the city and said, Sit down here. And they sat down.

Entonces él tomó diez varones de los ancianos de la ciudad, y dijo: Sentaos aquí. Y ellos se sentaron.

3 A nd he said to the kinsman, Naomi, who has returned from the country of Moab, has sold the parcel of land which belonged to our brother Elimelech.

Y dijo al redentor: Una parcela de tierra que tuvo nuestro hermano Elimelec, vendió Noemí, la que volvió del campo de Moab;

4 A nd I thought to let you hear of it, saying, Buy it in the presence of those sitting here and before the elders of my people. If you will redeem it, redeem it; but if you will not redeem it, then say so, that I may know; for there is no one besides you to redeem it, and I am after you. And he said, I will redeem it.

y yo decidí hacértelo saber, y decirte que las tomes delante de los que están aquí sentados, y delante de los ancianos de mi pueblo. Si hubieres de redimir, redime; y si no quisieres redimir, decláramelo para que yo lo sepa; porque no hay otro que redima sino tú, y yo después de ti. Y el otro respondió: Yo redimiré.

5 T hen Boaz said, The day you buy the field of Naomi, you must buy also Ruth the Moabitess, the widow of the dead man, to restore the name of the dead to his inheritance.

Entonces replicó Booz: El mismo día que tomares las tierras de mano de Noemí, tomarás también a Rut la moabita, mujer del difunto, para que levantes el nombre del muerto sobre su heredad.

6 A nd the kinsman said, I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I endanger my own inheritance. Take my right of redemption yourself, for I cannot redeem it.

Y respondió el redentor: No puedo redimir para mí; porque por ventura echaría a perder mi heredad; redime tú, yo te traspaso mi derecho, porque yo no podré redimir.

7 N ow formerly in Israel this was the custom concerning redeeming and exchanging. To confirm a transaction, a man pulled off his sandal and gave it to the other. This was the way of attesting in Israel.

Desde hacía tiempo existía esta costumbre en Israel en la redención o contrato, que para la confirmación de cualquier negocio, el uno se quitaba el zapato y lo daba a su compañero; y éste era el testimonio en Israel.

8 T herefore, when the kinsman said to Boaz, Buy it for yourself, he pulled off his sandal.

Entonces el que había traspasado el derecho de redención dijo a Booz: Tómalo tú. Y diciendo esto descalzó su zapato.

9 A nd Boaz said to the elders and to all the people, You are witnesses this day that I have bought all that was Elimelech’s and all that was Chilion’s and Mahlon’s from the hand of Naomi.

¶ Y Booz dijo a los ancianos y a todo el pueblo: Vosotros seréis hoy testigos de como tomo todas las cosas que fueron de Elimelec, y todo lo que fue de Quelión y de Mahlón, de mano de Noemí.

10 A lso Ruth the Moabitess, the widow of Mahlon, I have bought to be my wife to restore the name of the dead to his inheritance, that the name of the dead may not be cut off from among his brethren and from the gate of his birthplace. You are witnesses this day.

Y que también tomo por mi mujer a Rut la moabita, mujer de Mahlón, para que yo levante el nombre del difunto sobre su heredad, para que el nombre del muerto no se pierda de entre sus hermanos y de la puerta de su lugar. Vosotros seréis hoy testigos.

11 A nd all the people at the gate and the elders said, We are witnesses. May the Lord make the woman who is coming into your house like Rachel and Leah, the two who built the household of Israel. May you do worthily and get wealth (power) in Ephratah and be famous in Bethlehem.

Y dijeron todos los del pueblo que estaban a la puerta con los ancianos: Testigos somos. El SEÑOR haga a la mujer que entra en tu casa como a Raquel y a Lea, las cuales edificaron la casa de Israel; y tú seas ilustre en Efrata, y tengas nombradía en Belén;

12 A nd let your house be like the house of Perez, whom Tamar bore to Judah, because of the offspring which the Lord will give you by this young woman.

tu casa sea como la casa de Fares, al que Tamar dio a luz a Judá, de la simiente que el SEÑOR te diere de esta joven.

13 S o Boaz took Ruth and she became his wife. And he went in to her, and the Lord caused her to conceive, and she bore a son.

¶ Y así Booz tomó a Rut, y ella fue su mujer; y luego que entró a ella, el SEÑOR le dio que concibiera y diera a luz un hijo.

14 A nd the women said to Naomi, Blessed be the Lord, Who has not left you this day without a close kinsman, and may his name be famous in Israel.

Y las mujeres decían a Noemí: Loado sea el SEÑOR, que hizo que no te faltara redentor hoy, cuyo nombre será nombrado en Israel.

15 A nd may he be to you a restorer of life and a nourisher and supporter in your old age, for your daughter-in-law who loves you, who is better to you than seven sons, has borne him.

El cual será restaurador de tu alma, y el que te sustentará en tu vejez; pues que tu nuera, la cual te ama, le ha dado a luz; y ella es de más valor para ti que siete hijos.

16 T hen Naomi took the child and laid him in her bosom and became his nurse.

Y tomando Noemí el hijo, lo puso en su regazo, y fue su aya.

17 A nd her neighbor women gave him a name, saying, A son is born to Naomi. They named him Obed. He was the father of Jesse, the father of David.

Y las vecinas le pusieron nombre diciendo: a Noemí ha nacido un hijo; y le llamaron Obed. Este es padre de Jessé, padre de David.

18 N ow these are the descendants of Perez: Perez was the father of Hezron,

Y éstas son las generaciones de Fares: Fares engendró a Hezrón;

19 H ezron of Ram, Ram of Amminadab,

y Hezrón engendró a Ram, y Ram engendró a Aminadab;

20 A mminadab of Nahshon, Nahshon of Salmon,

y Aminadab engendró a Naasón, y Naasón engendró a Salmón;

21 S almon of Boaz, Boaz of Obed,

Y Salmón engendró a Booz, y Booz engendró a Obed;

22 O bed of Jesse, and Jesse of David.

y Obed engendró a Jessé, y Jessé engendró a David.
