1 A lso told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not to turn coward (faint, lose heart, and give up).

¶ Y les dijo también una parábola sobre que es necesario orar siempre, y no desmayar,

2 H e said, In a certain city there was a judge who neither reverenced and feared God nor respected or considered man.

diciendo: Había un juez en una ciudad, el cual ni temía a Dios, ni respetaba a hombre.

3 A nd there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, Protect and defend and give me justice against my adversary.

Había también en aquella ciudad una viuda, la cual venía a él diciendo: Defiéndeme de mi adversario.

4 A nd for a time he would not; but later he said to himself, Though I have neither reverence or fear for God nor respect or consideration for man,

Pero él no quiso por algún tiempo; pero después de esto dijo dentro de sí: Aunque ni temo a Dios, ni tengo respeto a hombre,

5 Y et because this widow continues to bother me, I will defend and protect and avenge her, lest she give me intolerable annoyance and wear me out by her continual coming or at the last she come and rail on me or assault me or strangle me.

todavía, porque esta viuda me es molesta, le haré justicia, porque al fin no venga y me muela.

6 T hen the Lord said, Listen to what the unjust judge says!

Y dijo el Señor: Oíd lo que dice el juez injusto.

7 A nd will not God defend and protect and avenge His elect (His chosen ones), who cry to Him day and night? Will He defer them and delay help on their behalf?

¿Y Dios no vengará a sus escogidos, que claman a él día y noche, aunque sea longánime acerca de ellos?

8 I tell you, He will defend and protect and avenge them speedily. However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find '> persistence in] faith on the earth?

Os digo que los vengará presto. Pero cuando el Hijo del hombre viniere, ¿hallará fe en la tierra?

9 H e also told this parable to some people who trusted in themselves and were confident that they were righteous and scorned and made nothing of all the rest of men:

¶ Y dijo también a unos que confiaban en sí como justos, y menospreciaban a los otros, esta parábola:

10 T wo men went up into the temple '> enclosure] to pray, the one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.

Dos hombres subieron al Templo a orar: el uno fariseo, el otro publicano.

11 T he Pharisee took his stand ostentatiously and began to pray thus before and with himself: God, I thank You that I am not like the rest of men—extortioners (robbers), swindlers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector here.

El fariseo, en pie, oraba consigo de esta manera: Dios, te doy gracias, que no soy como los otros hombres, ladrones, injustos, adúlteros, ni aun como este publicano;

12 I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I gain.

ayuno lo de dos comidas cada sábado, doy diezmos de todo lo que poseo.

13 B ut the tax collector, standing at a distance, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but kept striking his breast, saying, O God, be favorable (be gracious, be merciful) to me, the especially wicked sinner that I am!

Mas el publicano estando lejos no quería ni aun alzar los ojos al cielo, sino que hería su pecho, diciendo: Dios, reconcíliame, pecador.

14 I tell you, this man went down to his home justified (forgiven and made upright and in right standing with God), rather than the other man; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.

Os digo que éste descendió a su casa más justificado que el otro; porque cualquiera que se ensalza, será humillado; y el que se humilla, será ensalzado.

15 N ow they were also bringing babies to Him that He might touch them, and when the disciples noticed it, they reproved them.

¶ Y traían a él los niños para que los tocara; lo cual viendo los discípulos les reñían.

16 B ut Jesus called them '> the parents] to Him, saying, Allow the little children to come to Me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God.

Mas Jesús llamándolos, dijo: Dejad a los niños venir a mí, y no lo impidáis; porque de los tales es el Reino de Dios.

17 T ruly I say to you, whoever does not accept and receive and welcome the kingdom of God like a little child shall not in any way enter it.

De cierto os digo, que cualquiera que no recibiere el Reino de Dios como un niño, no entrará en él.

18 A nd a certain ruler asked Him, Good Teacher '> essentially and perfectly morally good], what shall I do to inherit eternal life ?

¶ Y le preguntó un príncipe, diciendo: Maestro bueno, ¿qué haré para poseer la vida eterna?

19 J esus said to him, Why do you call Me '> essentially and perfectly morally] good? No one is '> essentially and perfectly morally] good—except God only.

Y Jesús le dijo: ¿Por qué me llamas bueno? Ninguno hay bueno sino sólo Dios.

20 Y ou know the commandments: Do not commit adultery, do not kill, do not steal, do not witness falsely, honor your father and your mother.

Los mandamientos sabes: No cometerás homicidio; no adulterarás; no hurtarás; no dirás falso testimonio; honra a tu padre y a tu madre.

21 A nd he replied, All these I have kept from my youth.

Y él dijo: Todas estas cosas he guardado desde mi juventud.

22 A nd when Jesus heard it, He said to him, One thing you still lack. Sell everything that you have and divide among the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come back follow Me.

Y Jesús, oído esto, le dijo: Aún te falta una cosa: vende todo lo que tienes, y dalo a los pobres, y tendrás tesoro en el cielo; y ven, sígueme.

23 B ut when he heard this, he became distressed and very sorrowful, for he was rich—exceedingly so.

Entonces él, oídas estas cosas, se puso muy triste, porque era muy rico.

24 J esus, observing him, said, How difficult it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!

Y viendo Jesús que se había entristecido mucho, dijo: ¡Cuán dificultosamente entrarán en el Reino de Dios los que tienen riquezas!

25 F or it is easier for a camel to enter through a needle’s eye than a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.

Porque más fácil cosa es entrar un cable por el ojo de una aguja, que un rico entrar al Reino de Dios.

26 A nd those who heard it said, Then who can be saved?

Y los que le oían, dijeron: ¿Y quién podrá ser salvo?

27 B ut He said, What is impossible with men is possible with God.

Y él les dijo: Lo que es imposible para con los hombres, posible es para Dios.

28 A nd Peter said, See, we have left our own and have followed You.

Entonces Pedro dijo: He aquí, nosotros hemos dejado todas las cosas, y te hemos seguido.

29 A nd He said to them, I say to you truly, there is no one who has left house or wife or brothers or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God

Y él les dijo: De cierto os digo, que no hay nadie que haya dejado casa, o padres, o hermanos, o mujer, o hijos, por el Reino de Dios,

30 W ho will not receive in return many times more in this world and, in the coming age, eternal life.

que no haya de recibir mucho más en este tiempo, y en el siglo venidero la vida eterna.

31 T hen taking the Twelve aside, He said to them, Listen! We are going up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written about the Son of Man through and by the prophets will be fulfilled.

¶ Y Jesús, tomando aparte a los doce, les dijo: He aquí subimos a Jerusalén, y serán cumplidas todas las cosas que fueron escritas por los profetas, del Hijo del hombre.

32 F or He will be handed over to the Gentiles and will be made sport of and scoffed and jeered at and insulted and spit upon.

Porque será entregado a los gentiles, y será escarnecido, e injuriado, y escupido.

33 T hey will flog Him and kill Him; and on the third day He will rise again.

Y después que le hubieren azotado, le matarán; mas al tercer día resucitará.

34 B ut they understood nothing of these things; His words were a mystery and hidden from them, and they did not comprehend what He was telling them.

Pero ellos nada de estas cosas entendían, y esta palabra les era encubierta, y no sabían lo que decía.

35 A s He came near to Jericho, it occurred that a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging.

¶ Y aconteció que acercándose él a Jericó, un ciego estaba sentado junto al camino mendigando;

36 A nd hearing a crowd going by, he asked what it meant.

el cual cuando oyó la multitud que pasaba, preguntó qué era aquello.

37 T hey told him, Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.

Y le dijeron que pasaba Jesús Nazareno.

38 A nd he shouted, saying, Jesus, Son of David, take pity and have mercy on me!

Entonces dio voces, diciendo: Jesús, Hijo de David, ten misericordia de mí.

39 B ut those who were in front reproved him, telling him to keep quiet; yet he screamed and shrieked so much the more, Son of David, take pity and have mercy on me!

Y los que iban delante, le reñían que callara; mas él clamaba mucho más: Hijo de David, ten misericordia de mí.

40 T hen Jesus stood still and ordered that he be led to Him; and when he came near, Jesus asked him,

Jesús entonces parándose, mandó traerle a sí; y cuando él llegó, le preguntó,

41 W hat do you want Me to do for you? He said, Lord, let me receive my sight!

diciendo: ¿Qué quieres que te haga? Y él dijo: Señor, que vea.

42 A nd Jesus said to him, Receive your sight! Your faith ( your trust and confidence that spring from your faith in God) has healed you.

Y Jesús le dijo: Ve, tu fe te ha hecho salvo.

43 A nd instantly he received his sight and began to follow Jesus, recognizing, praising, and honoring God; and all the people, when they saw it, praised God.

Y luego vio, y le seguía, glorificando a Dios; y todo el pueblo como lo vio, dio a Dios alabanza.
