1 W hen King Hezekiah heard it, he rent his clothes and covered himself with sackcloth and went into the house of the Lord.

Y cuando el rey Ezequías lo oyó, rasgó sus vestidos, y se cubrió de cilicio, y entró en la Casa del SEÑOR.

2 A nd he sent Eliakim, who was over his household, Shebna the scribe, and the older priests, covered with sackcloth, to Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz.

Y envió a Eliacim el mayordomo, y a Sebna escriba, y a los ancianos de los sacerdotes, vestidos de cilicio a Isaías profeta hijo de Amós,

3 T hey said to him, Hezekiah says: This is a day of distress, of rebuke and chastisement, and blasphemous and insolent insult; for children have come to the birth, and there is no strength to bring them forth.

que le dijeran: Así dijo Ezequías: Este día es día de angustia, y de reprensión, y de blasfemia; porque los hijos han venido hasta la rotura, y la que da a luz no tiene fuerzas.

4 I t may be that the Lord your God will hear all the words of the Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria has sent to mock, reproach, insult, and defy the living God, and will rebuke the words which the Lord your God has heard. So raise your prayer for the remnant that is left.

Por ventura oirá el SEÑOR tu Dios todas las palabras de Rabsaces, al cual el rey de los Asirios su señor ha enviado para injuriar al Dios vivo, y reprenderá las palabras, las cuales el SEÑOR tu Dios ha oído; por tanto, eleva oración por el remanente que aun se halla.

5 S o the servants of King Hezekiah came to Isaiah.

Vinieron pues los siervos del rey Ezequías a Isaías.

6 I saiah said to them, Say to your master, Thus says the Lord: Do not be afraid because of the words you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have reviled and blasphemed Me.

E Isaías les respondió: Así diréis a vuestro señor: Así dijo el SEÑOR: No temas por las palabras que has oído, con las cuales me han blasfemado los siervos del rey de Asiria.

7 B ehold, I will put a spirit in him so that he will hear a rumor and return to his own land, and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own country.

He aquí yo pongo en él un espíritu, y oirá rumor, y volverá a su tierra; y yo haré que en su tierra caiga a espada.

8 S o the Rabshakeh returned and found the king of Assyria fighting against Libnah; for he had heard that the king had left Lachish.

¶ Y regresando Rabsaces, halló al rey de Asiria combatiendo a Libna; porque había oído que se había ido de Laquis.

9 A nd Sennacherib king of Assyria heard concerning Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, He has come to make war against you. And when he heard it, he sent messengers again to Hezekiah, saying,

Y oyó decir de Tirhaca rey de Etiopía: He aquí ha salido para hacerte guerra. Entonces volvió él, y envió embajadores a Ezequías, diciendo:

10 S ay this to Hezekiah king of Judah: Let not your God on Whom you rely deceive you by saying, Jerusalem shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.

Así diréis a Ezequías rey de Judá: No te engañe tu Dios en quien tú confías, para decir: Jerusalén no será entregada en mano del rey de Asiria.

11 B ehold, you have heard what the Assyrian kings have done to all lands, destroying them utterly. And shall you be delivered?

He aquí tú has oído lo que han hecho los reyes de Asiria a todas las tierras, destruyéndolas, ¿y has tú de escapar?

12 H ave the gods of the nations delivered those whom my ancestors have destroyed, as Gozan, Haran, Rezeph, and the people of Eden who were in Telassar?

¿Por ventura los libraron los dioses de los gentiles, que mis padres destruyeron, es a saber, Gozán, Harán, Resef, y los hijos de Edén que estaban en Telasar?

13 W here are the kings of Hamath, of Arpad, of the city of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivvah?

¿Dónde está el rey de Hamat, el rey de Arfad, el rey de la ciudad de Sefarvaim, de Hena, y de Iva?

14 H ezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers and read it. And he went up into the house of the Lord and spread it before the Lord.

Y tomó Ezequías las letras de mano de los embajadores; y después que las hubo leído, subió a la Casa del SEÑOR, y las extendió Ezequías delante del SEÑOR.

15 A nd Hezekiah prayed: O Lord, the God of Israel, Who is enthroned above the cherubim, You are the God, You alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made the heavens and the earth.

Y oró Ezequías delante del SEÑOR, diciendo: SEÑOR Dios de Israel, que habitas sobre los querubines, tú solo eres Dios a todos los reinos de la tierra; tú hiciste el cielo y la tierra.

16 L ord, bow down Your ear and hear; Lord, open Your eyes and see; hear the words of Sennacherib which he has sent to mock, reproach, insult, and defy the living God.

Inclina, oh SEÑOR, tu oído, y oye; abre, oh SEÑOR, tus ojos, y mira; y oye las palabras de Senaquerib, que ha enviado a blasfemar al Dios viviente.

17 I t is true, Lord, that the Assyrian kings have laid waste the nations and their lands

Es verdad, oh SEÑOR, que los reyes de Asiria han destruido a los gentiles y sus tierras;

18 A nd have cast the gods of those peoples into the fire, for they were not gods but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone. So they have destroyed them.

y que pusieron en el fuego a sus dioses, por cuanto ellos no eran dioses, sino obra de manos de hombres, madera o piedra, y así los destruyeron.

19 N ow therefore, O Lord our God, I beseech You, save us out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know and understand that You, O Lord, are God alone.

Ahora, pues, oh SEÑOR Dios nuestro, sálvanos ahora de su mano, para que sepan todos los reinos de la tierra que tú solo eres el SEÑOR Dios.

20 T hen Isaiah son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Your prayer to Me about Sennacherib king of Assyria I have heard.

Entonces Isaías hijo de Amós envió a decir a Ezequías: Así dijo el SEÑOR, Dios de Israel: Lo que me rogaste acerca de Senaquerib rey de Asiria, he oído.

21 T his is the word that the Lord has spoken concerning him: The Virgin Daughter of Zion has despised you and laughed you to scorn; the Daughter of Jerusalem has wagged her head behind you.

Esta es la palabra que el SEÑOR ha hablado contra él: ¿Te ha menospreciado? ¿Te ha escarnecido, oh virgen hija de Sion? Ha movido su cabeza a tus espaldas, oh hija de Jerusalén.

22 W hom have you mocked and reviled and insulted and blasphemed? Against Whom have you raised your voice and haughtily lifted your eyes? Against the Holy One of Israel!

¿A quién has injuriado y a quién has blasfemado? ¿Y contra quién has hablado alto, y has alzado en alto tus ojos? Contra el Santo de Israel.

23 B y your messengers you have mocked, reproached, insulted, and defied the Lord, and have said, With my many chariots I have gone up to the heights of the mountains, to the far recesses of Lebanon. I cut down its tall cedar trees and its choicest cypress trees. I entered its most distant retreat, its densest forest.

Por mano de tus mensajeros has proferido injuria contra el Señor, y has dicho: Con la multitud de mis carros he subido a las cumbres de los montes; a las cuestas del Líbano, y cortaré sus altos cedros, sus hayas escogidas; y entraré a la morada de su término, al bosque de su Carmel.

24 I dug wells and drank foreign waters, and with the sole of my feet have I dried up all the streams of Egypt.

Yo he cavado y bebido las aguas ajenas, y he secado con la planta de mis pies todos los ríos de munición.

25 H ave you not heard how I ordained long ago what now I have brought to pass? I planned it in olden times, that you should lay waste fortified cities, making them ruinous heaps.

¿Nunca has oído que desde largo tiempo atrás la hice yo, y de días antiguos la he formado? Y ahora la he hecho venir, y será para destrucción de ciudades fuertes en montones de ruinas.

26 T hat is why their inhabitants had little power, they were dismayed and confounded; they were like plants of the field, the green herb, the grass on the housetops, blasted before it is grown up.

Y sus moradores, cortos de manos, quebrantados y confusos, serán cual hierba del campo, como legumbre verde; heno de los tejados, que antes que venga a madurez es seco.

27 B ut I know your sitting down, your going out, your coming in, and your raging against Me.

Yo he sabido tu sentarte, tu salir y tu entrar, y tu furor contra mí.

28 B ecause your raging against Me and your arrogance and careless ease have come to My ears, therefore I will put My hook in your nose and My bridle in your lips, and I will turn you back by the way you came, O king of Assyria.

Por cuanto te has airado contra mí, y tu estruendo ha subido a mis oídos; por tanto yo pondré mi anzuelo en tus narices, y mi freno en tus labios, y yo te haré volver por el camino por donde viniste.

29 A nd this shall be the sign to you: you shall eat this year what grows of itself, also in the second year what springs up voluntarily. But in the third year sow and reap, plant vineyards and eat their fruit.

Y esto te será por señal: Este año comerás lo que nacerá de suyo, y el segundo año lo que volverá a nacer de suyo; y el tercer año haréis sementera, y segaréis, y plantaréis viñas, y comeréis el fruto de ellas.

30 A nd the remnant that has survived of the house of Judah shall again take root downward and bear fruit upward.

Y lo que hubiere escapado, lo que habrá quedado de la casa de Judá, volverá a echar raíz abajo, y hará fruto arriba.

31 F or out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and a band of survivors out of Mount Zion. The zeal of the Lord of hosts shall perform this.

Porque saldrán de Jerusalén remanente, y liberación desde el monte de Sion; el celo del SEÑOR de los ejércitos hará esto.

32 T herefore thus says the Lord concerning the king of Assyria: He shall not come into this city or shoot an arrow here or come before it with shield or cast up a siege mound against it.

Por tanto, el SEÑOR dice así del rey de Asiria: No entrará en esta ciudad, ni echará saeta en ella; ni vendrá delante de ella escudo, ni será echado contra ella baluarte.

33 B y the way that he came, by that way shall he return, and he shall not come into this city, says the Lord.

Por el camino que vino se volverá, y no entrará en esta ciudad, dice el SEÑOR.

34 F or I will defend this city to save it, for My own sake and for My servant David’s sake.

Porque yo ampararé a esta ciudad para salvarla, por amor de mí, y por amor de David mi siervo.

35 A nd it all came to pass, for that night the Angel of the Lord went forth and slew 185, 000 in the camp of the Assyrians; and when arose early in the morning, behold, all these were dead bodies.

¶ Y aconteció que la misma noche salió el ángel del SEÑOR, e hirió en el campamento de los Asirios ciento ochenta y cinco mil hombres; y cuando se levantaron por la mañana, he aquí los cuerpos de los muertos.

36 S o Sennacherib king of Assyria departed and returned and dwelt at Nineveh.

Entonces Senaquerib, rey de Asiria partió, y se fue de allí y estuvo en Nínive.

37 A nd as he was worshiping in the house of Nisroch his god, Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons killed him with the sword, and they escaped to the land of Armenia or Ararat. Esarhaddon his son reigned in his stead.

Y aconteció, que estando él adorando en la casa de Nisroc su dios, Adramelec y Sarezer sus hijos lo hirieron a espada; y huyeron a tierra de Ararat. Y reinó en su lugar Esar-hadón su hijo.
