1 A bsalom son of David had a fair sister whose name was Tamar, and Amnon son of David loved her.

¶ Aconteció después de esto, que teniendo Absalón hijo de David una hermana hermosa que se llamaba Tamar, se enamoró de ella Amnón hijo de David.

2 A nd Amnon was so troubled that he fell sick for his sister Tamar, for she was a virgin, and Amnon thought it impossible for him to do anything to her.

Y estaba Amnón angustiado hasta enfermar, por Tamar su hermana; porque por ser ella virgen, parecía a Amnón que sería cosa dificultosa hacerle algo.

3 B ut Amnon had a friend whose name was Jonadab son of Shimeah, David’s brother; and Jonadab was a very crafty man.

Y Amnón tenía un amigo que se llamaba Jonadab, hijo de Simea, hermano de David; y era Jonadab hombre muy astuto.

4 H e said to Amnon, Why are you, the king’s son, so lean and weak-looking from day to day? Will you not tell me? And Amnon said to him, I love Tamar, my brother Absalom’s sister.

Y éste le dijo: Hijo del rey, ¿por qué de día en día vas así enflaqueciendo? ¿No me lo descubrirás a mí? Y Amnón le respondió: Yo amo a Tamar la hermana de Absalón mi hermano.

5 J onadab said to him, Go to bed and pretend you are sick; and when your father David comes to see you, say to him, Let my sister Tamar come and give me food and prepare it in my sight, that I may see it and eat it from her hand.

Y Jonadab le dijo: Acuéstate en tu cama, y finge que estás enfermo; y cuando tu padre viniere a visitarte, dile: Te ruego que venga mi hermana Tamar, para que me conforte con alguna comida, y aderece delante de mí alguna vianda, para que viéndola yo, la coma de su mano.

6 S o Amnon lay down and pretended to be sick; and when the king came to see him, Amnon said to the king, I pray you, let my sister Tamar come and make me a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may eat from her hand.

Se acostó, pues, Amnón, y fingió que estaba enfermo, y vino el rey a visitarle; y dijo Amnón al rey: Yo te ruego que venga mi hermana Tamar, y haga delante de mí dos hojuelas, que coma yo de su mano.

7 T hen David sent home and told Tamar, Go now to your brother Amnon’s house and prepare food for him.

Y David envió a Tamar a su casa, diciendo: Ve ahora a casa de Amnón tu hermano, y hazle de comer.

8 S o Tamar went to her brother Amnon’s house, and he was in bed. And she took dough and kneaded it and made cakes in his sight and baked them.

Entonces fue Tamar a casa de su hermano Amnón, el cual estaba acostado; tomó harina, amasó e hizo hojuelas delante de él, y las aderezó.

9 S he took the pan and emptied it out before him, but he refused to eat. And Amnon said, Send everyone out from me. So everyone went out from him.

Tomó luego la sartén, y las sacó delante de él; mas él no quiso comer. Y dijo Amnón: Echad fuera de aquí a todos. Y todos se salieron de allí.

10 T hen Amnon said to Tamar, Bring the food here into the bedroom, so I may eat from your hand. So Tamar took the cakes she had made and brought them into the room to Amnon her brother.

Entonces Amnón dijo a Tamar: Trae la comida a la alcoba, para que yo coma de tu mano. Y tomando Tamar las hojuelas que había aderezado, las llevó a su hermano Amnón a la alcoba.

11 A nd when she brought them to him, he took hold of her and said, Come lie with me, my sister.

Y cuando ella se las puso delante para que comiera, él la asió con fuerza, diciéndole: Ven, hermana mía acuéstate conmigo.

12 S he replied, No, my brother! Do not force and humble me, for no such thing should be done in Israel! Do not do this foolhardy, scandalous thing!

Ella entonces le respondió: No, hermano mío, no me hagas fuerza; porque no se hace así en Israel. No hagas tal locura.

13 A nd I, how could I rid myself of my shame? And you, you will be one of the stupid fools in Israel. Now therefore, I pray you, speak to the king, for he will not withhold me from you.

Porque, ¿dónde iría yo con mi deshonra? Y aun tú serías estimado como uno de los locos de Israel. Te ruego, pues, ahora que hables al rey, que no me negará a ti.

14 B ut he would not listen to her, and being stronger than she, he forced her and lay with her.

Mas él no la quiso oír; antes pudiendo más que ella la forzó, y se echó con ella.

15 T hen Amnon hated her exceedingly, so that his hatred for her was greater than the love with which he had loved her. And Amnon said to her, Get up and get out!

La aborreció luego Amnón de tan grande aborrecimiento, que el odio con que la aborreció después fue mayor que el amor con que la había amado. Y le dijo Amnón: Levántate y vete.

16 B ut she said, No! This great evil of sending me away is worse than what you did to me. But he would not listen to her.

Y ella le respondió: No hay razón; mayor mal es éste de echarme, que el que me has hecho. Mas él no la quiso oír;

17 H e called the servant who served him and said, Put this woman out of my presence now, and bolt the door after her!

antes llamando a su criado que le servía le dijo: Echame ésta allá fuera, y tras ella cierra la puerta.

18 N ow was wearing a long robe with sleeves and of various colors, for in such robes were the king’s virgin daughters clad of old. Then Amnon’s servant brought her out and bolted the door after her.

(Y tenía ella sobre sí una ropa de colores, traje que las hijas vírgenes de los reyes vestían.) Y su criado la echó pues fuera, y cerró la puerta tras ella.

19 A nd put ashes on her head and tore the long, sleeved robe which she wore, and she laid her hand on her head and went away shrieking and wailing.

Entonces Tamar tomó ceniza, y la esparció sobre su cabeza, y rasgó su ropa de colores de que estaba vestida, y puestas sus manos sobre su cabeza, se fue gritando.

20 A nd Absalom her brother said to her, Has your brother Amnon been with you? Be quiet now, my sister. He is your brother; take not this matter to heart. So Tamar dwelt in her brother Absalom’s house, a desolate woman.

Y le dijo su hermano Absalón: ¿Ha estado contigo tu hermano Amnón? Pues calla ahora, hermana mía; tu hermano es; no pongas tu corazón en este negocio. Y se quedó Tamar desconsolada en casa de Absalón su hermano.

21 B ut when King David heard of all these things, he was very angry.

¶ Y luego que el rey David oyó todo esto, estuvo muy enojado.

22 A nd Absalom spoke to Amnon neither good nor bad; for Absalom hated Amnon because he had humbled his sister Tamar.

Mas Absalón no habló con Amnón ni malo ni bueno, bien que Absalón aborrecía a Amnón, porque había forzado a Tamar su hermana.

23 A fter two full years Absalom had sheepshearers at Baal-hazor near Ephraim, and Absalom invited all the king’s sons.

Y aconteció pasados dos años, que Absalón tenía esquiladores en Bala-hazor, que está junto a Efraín; y convidó Absalón a todos los hijos del rey.

24 A bsalom came to the king and said, Behold, your servant has sheepshearers; I pray you, let the king and his servants go with your servant.

Y vino Absalón al rey, y le dijo: He aquí, tu siervo tiene ahora esquiladores; yo ruego que venga el rey y sus siervos con tu siervo.

25 A nd the king said to Absalom, No, my son, let us not all go, lest we be burdensome to you. Absalom urged David; still he would not go, but he blessed him.

Y respondió el rey a Absalón: No, hijo mío, no vamos todos, para que no te seamos gravosos. Y aunque porfió con él, no quiso ir, mas lo bendijo.

26 T hen said Absalom, If not, I pray you, let my brother Amnon go with us. And the king said to him, Why should he go with you?

Entonces dijo Absalón: Si no, te ruego que venga con nosotros Amnón mi hermano. Y el rey le respondió: ¿Para qué ha de ir contigo?

27 B ut Absalom urged him, and he let Amnon and all the king’s sons go with him.

Y como Absalón lo importunara, dejó ir con él a Amnón y a todos los hijos del rey.

28 N ow Absalom commanded his servants, Notice now, when Amnon’s heart is merry with wine and when I say to you, Strike Amnon, then kill him. Fear not; have I not commanded you? Be courageous and brave.

Y había Absalón dado orden a sus criados, diciendo: Ahora bien, mirad cuando el corazón de Amnón estará alegre del vino, y cuando yo os dijere: Herid a Amnón, entonces matadle, y no temáis; que yo os lo he mandado. Esforzaos pues, y sed valientes.

29 A nd the servants of Absalom did to Amnon as Absalom had commanded. Then all the king’s sons arose and every man mounted his mule and fled.

Y los criados de Absalón hicieron con Amnón como Absalón lo había mandado. Se levantaron luego todos los hijos del rey, y subieron todos en sus mulos, y huyeron.

30 W hile they were on the way, the word came to David, Absalom has killed all the king’s sons, and not one of them is left.

¶ Y estando aún ellos en el camino, llegó a David el rumor que decía: Absalón ha dado muerte a todos los hijos del rey, que ninguno de ellos ha quedado.

31 T hen the king arose and tore his garments and lay on the floor; and all his servants standing by tore their clothes.

Entonces levantándose David, rasgó sus vestidos, y se echó en tierra, y todos sus siervos tenían rasgados sus vestidos.

32 B ut Jonadab son of Shimeah, David’s brother, said, Let not my lord suppose they have killed all the king’s sons; for Amnon only is dead. This purpose has shown itself on Absalom’s determined mouth ever since the day Amnon humiliated his sister Tamar.

Y Jonadab, hijo de Simea hermano de David, habló y dijo: No diga mi señor que han matado a todos los jóvenes hijos del rey, ya que sólo Amnón ha muerto; porque en la boca de Absalón estaba puesto desde el día que Amnón forzó a Tamar su hermana.

33 S o let not my lord the king take the thing to heart and think all the king’s sons are dead; for Amnon only is dead.

Por tanto, ahora no ponga mi señor el rey en su corazón tal palabra que dice: Todos los hijos del rey han muerto; porque sólo Amnón ha muerto.

34 B ut Absalom fled. And the young man who kept the watch looked up, and behold, many people were coming by the way of the hillside behind him.

Absalón huyó luego. Entre tanto, alzando sus ojos el joven que estaba de atalaya, miró, y he aquí mucho pueblo que venía a sus espaldas por el camino hacia el monte.

35 A nd Jonadab said to the king, See, the king’s sons are coming. It is as your servant said.

Y dijo Jonadab al rey: He allí los hijos del rey que vienen; porque así es como tu siervo ha dicho.

36 A nd as he finished speaking, the king’s sons came and lifted up their voices and wept; and the king also and all his servants wept very bitterly.

Y cuando él acabó de hablar, he aquí los hijos del rey que vinieron, y alzando su voz lloraron. Y también el mismo rey y todos sus siervos lloraron con muy grandes lamentos.

37 B ut Absalom fled and went to Talmai son of Ammihud, king of Geshur. And David mourned for his son every day.

Mas Absalón huyó, y se fue a Talmai hijo de Amiud, rey de Gesur. Y David lloraba por su hijo todos los días.

38 S o Absalom fled to Geshur and was there three years.

Y después que Absalón huyó y se fue a Gesur, estuvo allá tres años.

39 A nd the spirit of King David longed to go forth to Absalom, for he was comforted about Amnon, seeing that he was dead.

Y el rey David deseó ver a Absalón; porque ya estaba consolado acerca de Amnón que había muerto.
