1 A bsalom son of David had a fair sister whose name was Tamar, and Amnon son of David loved her.

Después de esto aconteció que Absalón, hijo de David, tenía una hermana muy hermosa que se llamaba Tamar, de la cual se enamoró Amnón, hijo de David.

2 A nd Amnon was so troubled that he fell sick for his sister Tamar, for she was a virgin, and Amnon thought it impossible for him to do anything to her.

Y Amnón estaba tan atormentado a causa de su hermana Tamar que se enfermó, porque ella era virgen, y le parecía difícil a Amnón hacerle cosa alguna.

3 B ut Amnon had a friend whose name was Jonadab son of Shimeah, David’s brother; and Jonadab was a very crafty man.

Pero Amnón tenía un amigo que se llamaba Jonadab, hijo de Simea, hermano de David; y Jonadab era un hombre muy astuto.

4 H e said to Amnon, Why are you, the king’s son, so lean and weak-looking from day to day? Will you not tell me? And Amnon said to him, I love Tamar, my brother Absalom’s sister.

Y éste le dijo: “Hijo del rey, ¿por qué estás tan deprimido día tras día ? ¿No me lo contarás?” “Estoy enamorado de Tamar, hermana de mi hermano Absalón,” le respondió Amnón.

5 J onadab said to him, Go to bed and pretend you are sick; and when your father David comes to see you, say to him, Let my sister Tamar come and give me food and prepare it in my sight, that I may see it and eat it from her hand.

Entonces Jonadab le dijo: “Acuéstate en tu cama, y finge que estás enfermo; y cuando tu padre venga a verte, dile: ‘Te ruego que dejes que mi hermana Tamar venga y me dé algún alimento para comer, y que prepare la comida delante de mí para que yo la vea y la coma de su mano.’”

6 S o Amnon lay down and pretended to be sick; and when the king came to see him, Amnon said to the king, I pray you, let my sister Tamar come and make me a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may eat from her hand.

Amnón se acostó y se fingió enfermo. Cuando el rey vino a verlo, Amnón dijo al rey: “Te ruego que venga mi hermana Tamar y haga dos tortas delante de mí para que yo coma de su mano.”

7 T hen David sent home and told Tamar, Go now to your brother Amnon’s house and prepare food for him.

Y David envió mensaje a Tamar, a su casa, diciendo: “Ve ahora a la casa de tu hermano Amnón, y prepárale la comida.”

8 S o Tamar went to her brother Amnon’s house, and he was in bed. And she took dough and kneaded it and made cakes in his sight and baked them.

Fue, pues, Tamar a la casa de su hermano Amnón, y él estaba acostado. Y ella tomó masa, la amasó, hizo tortas delante de él y las coció.

9 S he took the pan and emptied it out before him, but he refused to eat. And Amnon said, Send everyone out from me. So everyone went out from him.

Y tomando la sartén, las sirvió delante de él, pero él rehusó comer. Y Amnón dijo: “Que salgan todos de aquí.” Y todos salieron de allí.

10 T hen Amnon said to Tamar, Bring the food here into the bedroom, so I may eat from your hand. So Tamar took the cakes she had made and brought them into the room to Amnon her brother.

Entonces Amnón dijo a Tamar: “Trae la comida a la alcoba para que yo coma de tu mano.” Y Tamar tomó las tortas que había hecho y las llevó a su hermano Amnón a la alcoba.

11 A nd when she brought them to him, he took hold of her and said, Come lie with me, my sister.

Cuando ella se las llevó para que comiera, él le echó mano, y le dijo: “Ven, acuéstate conmigo, hermana mía.”

12 S he replied, No, my brother! Do not force and humble me, for no such thing should be done in Israel! Do not do this foolhardy, scandalous thing!

Pero ella le respondió: “No, hermano mío, no abuses de mí, porque tal cosa no se hace en Israel; no cometas esta terrible ofensa (infamia).

13 A nd I, how could I rid myself of my shame? And you, you will be one of the stupid fools in Israel. Now therefore, I pray you, speak to the king, for he will not withhold me from you.

Pues, ¿adónde iría yo con mi deshonra ? Y tú serías como uno de los insensatos de Israel. Ahora pues, te ruego que hables al rey, que él no me negará a ti.”

14 B ut he would not listen to her, and being stronger than she, he forced her and lay with her.

Pero él no quiso escucharla; como era más fuerte que ella, la forzó, y se acostó con ella.

15 T hen Amnon hated her exceedingly, so that his hatred for her was greater than the love with which he had loved her. And Amnon said to her, Get up and get out!

Entonces Amnón la aborreció con un odio muy grande; porque el odio con que la aborreció fue mayor que el amor con que la había amado. Y Amnón le dijo: “Levántate, vete.”

16 B ut she said, No! This great evil of sending me away is worse than what you did to me. But he would not listen to her.

Pero ella le respondió: “No, porque esta injusticia que me haces, echándome fuera, es mayor que la otra que me has hecho.” Pero él no quiso oírla.

17 H e called the servant who served him and said, Put this woman out of my presence now, and bolt the door after her!

Llamó, pues, a su criado que le servía y le dijo: “Echa a esta mujer fuera de aquí, y cierra la puerta tras ella.”

18 N ow was wearing a long robe with sleeves and of various colors, for in such robes were the king’s virgin daughters clad of old. Then Amnon’s servant brought her out and bolted the door after her.

(Ella llevaba un vestido de manga larga, porque así las hijas vírgenes del rey se vestían con túnicas.) Su criado la echó fuera, y cerró la puerta tras ella.

19 A nd put ashes on her head and tore the long, sleeved robe which she wore, and she laid her hand on her head and went away shrieking and wailing.

Entonces Tamar se puso ceniza sobre la cabeza, rasgó el vestido de manga larga que llevaba puesto, y se fue gritando con las manos sobre la cabeza. Venganza de Absalón

20 A nd Absalom her brother said to her, Has your brother Amnon been with you? Be quiet now, my sister. He is your brother; take not this matter to heart. So Tamar dwelt in her brother Absalom’s house, a desolate woman.

Su hermano Absalón le dijo: “¿Ha estado contigo tu hermano Amnón? Guarda silencio ahora, hermana mía; tu hermano es; no se angustie tu corazón por este asunto.” Tamar, pues, se quedó desconsolada en casa de su hermano Absalón.

21 B ut when King David heard of all these things, he was very angry.

Cuando el rey David se enteró de todas estas cosas, se enojó mucho.

22 A nd Absalom spoke to Amnon neither good nor bad; for Absalom hated Amnon because he had humbled his sister Tamar.

Pero Absalón no le habló a Amnón ni bien ni mal; pues odiaba a Amnón, porque había violado a su hermana Tamar.

23 A fter two full years Absalom had sheepshearers at Baal-hazor near Ephraim, and Absalom invited all the king’s sons.

Después de dos años, teniendo Absalón esquiladores de ovejas en Baal Hazor, que está junto a Efraín, invitó a todos los hijos del rey.

24 A bsalom came to the king and said, Behold, your servant has sheepshearers; I pray you, let the king and his servants go with your servant.

Y Absalón vino al rey y le dijo: “Su siervo tiene ahora esquiladores de ovejas; ruego que venga el rey y sus asistentes con su siervo.”

25 A nd the king said to Absalom, No, my son, let us not all go, lest we be burdensome to you. Absalom urged David; still he would not go, but he blessed him.

Pero el rey respondió a Absalón: “No, hijo mío, no debemos ir todos, para no ser carga para ti.” Y aunque le insistió, no quiso ir, pero lo bendijo.

26 T hen said Absalom, If not, I pray you, let my brother Amnon go with us. And the king said to him, Why should he go with you?

Entonces Absalón dijo: “Pues si no, le ruego que deje ir a mi hermano Amnón con nosotros.” “¿Por qué ha de ir contigo?” le preguntó el rey.

27 B ut Absalom urged him, and he let Amnon and all the king’s sons go with him.

Pero cuando Absalón le insistió, dejó ir con él a Amnón y a todos los hijos del rey.

28 N ow Absalom commanded his servants, Notice now, when Amnon’s heart is merry with wine and when I say to you, Strike Amnon, then kill him. Fear not; have I not commanded you? Be courageous and brave.

Absalón ordenó a sus siervos y dijo: “Miren, cuando el corazón de Amnón esté alegre por el vino, y cuando yo les diga: ‘Hieran a Amnón,’ entonces mátenlo. No teman; ¿no se lo he mandado yo? Tengan ánimo y sean valientes.”

29 A nd the servants of Absalom did to Amnon as Absalom had commanded. Then all the king’s sons arose and every man mounted his mule and fled.

Y los siervos de Absalón hicieron a Amnón tal como Absalón les había mandado. Entonces todos los hijos del rey se levantaron, y montándose cada uno en su mulo, huyeron.

30 W hile they were on the way, the word came to David, Absalom has killed all the king’s sons, and not one of them is left.

Estando aún ellos en el camino, llegó a David el rumor que decía: “Absalón ha dado muerte a todos los hijos del rey, y no ha quedado ni uno de ellos.”

31 T hen the king arose and tore his garments and lay on the floor; and all his servants standing by tore their clothes.

Entonces el rey se levantó, rasgó sus vestidos y se echó en tierra; y todos sus siervos estaban a su lado con los vestidos rasgados.

32 B ut Jonadab son of Shimeah, David’s brother, said, Let not my lord suppose they have killed all the king’s sons; for Amnon only is dead. This purpose has shown itself on Absalom’s determined mouth ever since the day Amnon humiliated his sister Tamar.

Y Jonadab, hijo de Simea, hermano de David, dijo: “No crea mi señor que han dado muerte a todos los jóvenes, hijos del rey, pues sólo ha muerto Amnón; porque esto había sido determinado por decisión de Absalón desde el día en que Amnón violó a su hermana Tamar.

33 S o let not my lord the king take the thing to heart and think all the king’s sons are dead; for Amnon only is dead.

Ahora pues, no tome en serio mi señor el rey el rumor que dice: ‘todos los hijos del rey murieron,’ porque sólo Amnón ha muerto.” Huida de Absalón

34 B ut Absalom fled. And the young man who kept the watch looked up, and behold, many people were coming by the way of the hillside behind him.

Entre tanto Absalón había huido. Y el joven que estaba de atalaya alzó los ojos y miró, y había mucha gente que venía por el camino que estaba a sus espaldas del lado del monte.

35 A nd Jonadab said to the king, See, the king’s sons are coming. It is as your servant said.

Y Jonadab dijo al rey: “Son los hijos del rey que vienen; conforme a la palabra de su siervo, así ha sucedido.”

36 A nd as he finished speaking, the king’s sons came and lifted up their voices and wept; and the king also and all his servants wept very bitterly.

Apenas había acabado de hablar, los hijos del rey llegaron, alzaron su voz y lloraron. También el rey y todos sus siervos lloraron muy amargamente.

37 B ut Absalom fled and went to Talmai son of Ammihud, king of Geshur. And David mourned for his son every day.

Huyó Absalón y fue a Talmai, hijo de Amiud, rey de Gesur. Y David lloraba por su hijo todos los días.

38 S o Absalom fled to Geshur and was there three years.

Así fue que Absalón huyó a Gesur, y estuvo allí tres años.

39 A nd the spirit of King David longed to go forth to Absalom, for he was comforted about Amnon, seeing that he was dead.

Y el rey David ansiaba ir adonde estaba Absalón, pues con respecto a Amnón que había muerto, ya se había consolado.
