1 N ow some time later the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt offended their lord, Egypt’s king.

Después de estas cosas, sucedió que el copero y el panadero del rey de Egipto ofendieron a su señor, el rey de Egipto.

2 A nd Pharaoh was angry with his officers, the chief of the butlers and the chief of the bakers.

Faraón se enojó contra sus dos oficiales, contra el jefe de los coperos y contra el jefe de los panaderos.

3 H e put them in custody in the house of the captain of the guard, in the prison where Joseph was confined.

Y los puso bajo custodia en la casa del capitán de la guardia, en la cárcel, en el mismo lugar donde José estaba preso.

4 A nd the captain of the guard put them in Joseph’s charge, and he served them; and they continued in custody for some time.

El capitán de la guardia se los asignó a José, y él les servía. Allí estuvieron bajo custodia por algún tiempo.

5 A nd they both dreamed a dream in the same night, each man according to the interpretation of his dream—the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were confined in the prison.

Entonces el copero y el panadero del rey de Egipto, que estaban encerrados en la cárcel, tuvieron ambos un sueño en una misma noche, cada uno su propio sueño, y cada sueño con su propia interpretación.

6 W hen Joseph came to them in the morning and looked at them, he saw that they were sad and depressed.

Cuando José vino a ellos por la mañana y los observó, vio que estaban decaídos.

7 S o he asked Pharaoh’s officers who were in custody with him in his master’s house, Why do you look so dejected and sad today?

Y preguntó a los oficiales de Faraón que estaban con él bajo custodia en casa de su señor: “¿Por qué están sus rostros tan tristes hoy ?”

8 A nd they said to him, We have dreamed dreams, and there is no one to interpret them. And Joseph said to them, Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell me, I pray you.

Y ellos le respondieron: “Hemos tenido un sueño y no hay nadie que lo interprete.” Entonces les dijo José, “¿No pertenecen a Dios las interpretaciones ? Les ruego que me lo cuenten.” Sueño del Copero del Rey

9 A nd the chief butler told his dream to Joseph and said to him, In my dream I saw a vine before me,

Contó, pues, el jefe de los coperos su sueño a José, y le dijo: “En mi sueño, vi que había una vid delante de mí,

10 A nd on the vine were three branches. Then it was as though it budded; its blossoms burst forth and the clusters of them brought forth ripe grapes.

y en la vid había tres ramas. Y al echar brotes, aparecieron las flores, y sus racimos produjeron uvas maduras.

11 A nd Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand, and I took the grapes and pressed them into Pharaoh’s cup; then I gave the cup into Pharaoh’s hand.

La copa de Faraón estaba en mi mano. Así que tomé las uvas y las exprimí en la copa de Faraón, y puse la copa en la mano de Faraón.”

12 A nd Joseph said to him, This is the interpretation of it: The three branches are three days.

Entonces José le dijo: “Esta es su interpretación: los tres sarmientos son tres días.

13 W ithin three days Pharaoh will lift up your head and restore you to your position, and you will again put Pharaoh’s cup into his hand, as when you were his butler.

Dentro de tres días Faraón levantará su cabeza, le restaurará a su puesto y usted pondrá la copa de Faraón en su mano como acostumbraba antes cuando era su copero.

14 B ut think of me when it shall be well with you and show kindness, I beg of you, to me, and mention me to Pharaoh and get me out of this house.

Sólo le pido que se acuerde de mí cuando le vaya bien, y le ruego que me haga el favor de hacer mención de mí a Faraón, y me saque de esta casa.

15 F or truly I was carried away from the land of the Hebrews by unlawful force, and here too I have done nothing for which they should put me into the dungeon.

Porque la verdad es que yo fui secuestrado de la tierra de los Hebreos, y aun aquí no he hecho nada para que me pusieran en el calabozo.” Sueño del Panadero del Rey

16 W hen the chief baker saw that the interpretation was good, he said to Joseph, I also dreamed, and behold, I had three cake baskets on my head.

Cuando el jefe de los panaderos vio que había interpretado favorablemente, dijo a José: “Yo también vi en mi sueño que había tres cestas de pan blanco sobre mi cabeza.

17 A nd in the uppermost basket were some of all kinds of baked food for Pharaoh, but the birds were eating out of the basket on my head.

Sobre la cesta de encima había toda clase de manjares hechos por un panadero para Faraón, y las aves los comían de la cesta sobre mi cabeza.”

18 A nd Joseph answered, This is the interpretation of it: The three baskets are three days.

Entonces José respondió: “Esta es su interpretación: las tres cestas son tres días;

19 W ithin three days Pharaoh will lift up your head but will have you beheaded and hung on a tree, and the birds will eat your flesh.

dentro de tres días Faraón le quitará la cabeza de sobre usted, le colgará en un árbol y las aves comerán la carne de su cuerpo.” Cumplimiento de las Interpretaciones

20 A nd on the third day, Pharaoh’s birthday, he made a feast for all his servants; and he lifted up the heads of the chief butler and the chief baker among his servants.

Y sucedió que al tercer día, que era el día del cumpleaños de Faraón, éste hizo un banquete para todos sus siervos, y levantó la cabeza del jefe de los coperos y la cabeza del jefe de los panaderos (al invitarlos al banquete) en medio de sus siervos.

21 A nd he restored the chief butler to his butlership, and the butler gave the cup into Pharaoh’s hand;

Y restauró al jefe de los coperos a su cargo de copero y éste puso la copa en manos de Faraón;

22 B ut hanged the chief baker, as Joseph had interpreted to them.

pero ahorcó al jefe de los panaderos, tal como les había interpretado José.

23 B ut the chief butler gave no thought to Joseph, but forgot him.

Pero el jefe de los coperos no se acordó de José, sino que se olvidó de él.
