1 T hen came certain of the elders of Israel to me and sat before me.

Entonces vinieron a mí algunos de los ancianos de Israel y se sentaron delante de mí.

2 A nd the word of the Lord came to me:

Y vino a mí la palabra del Señor:

3 S on of man, these men have set up their idols in their hearts and put the stumbling block of their iniquity and guilt before their faces; should I permit Myself to be inquired of at all by them?

“Hijo de hombre, estos hombres han erigido sus ídolos en su corazón, y han puesto delante de su rostro lo que los hace caer en su iniquidad. ¿Me dejaré Yo consultar por ellos ?

4 T herefore speak to them and say to them, Thus says the Lord God: Every man of the house of Israel who takes his idols into his heart and puts the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face, and yet comes to the prophet, I the Lord will answer him, answer him according to the multitude of his idols,

Por tanto, diles: ‘Así dice el Señor Dios: “Cualquier hombre de la casa de Israel que erija sus ídolos en su corazón, y que ponga delante de su rostro lo que lo hace caer en su iniquidad, y después venga al profeta, Yo, el Señor, le responderé entonces de acuerdo con la multitud de sus ídolos,

5 T hat I may lay hold of the house of Israel in the thoughts of their own mind and heart, because they are all estranged from Me through their idols.

a fin de alcanzar a la casa de Israel en sus corazones, que están apartados de Mí a causa de todos sus ídolos.”’

6 T herefore say to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord God: Repent and turn away from your idols, and turn away your faces from all your abominations.

“Por tanto, dile a la casa de Israel: ‘Así dice el Señor Dios: “Arrepiéntanse y apártense de sus ídolos, y de todas sus abominaciones aparten sus rostros.

7 F or anyone of the house of Israel or of the strangers who sojourn in Israel who separates himself from Me, taking his idols into his heart and putting the stumbling block of his iniquity and guilt before his face, and comes to the prophet to inquire for himself of Me, I the Lord will answer him Myself!

Porque a cualquiera de la casa de Israel, o de los extranjeros que residen en Israel, que se aleje de Mí y erija sus ídolos en su corazón, que ponga delante de su rostro lo que lo hace caer en su iniquidad, y después venga al profeta para consultarme por medio de él, Yo, el Señor, le responderé por Mí mismo.

8 A nd I will set My face against that and will make him a sign and a byword, and I will cut him off from the midst of My people; and you shall know (understand and realize) that I am the Lord.

Pondré Mi rostro contra ese hombre, haré de él señal y proverbio, y lo cortaré de en medio de Mi pueblo. Así ustedes sabrán que Yo soy el Señor.

9 b ut if the prophet does give the man the answer he desires, I the Lord will see to it that the prophet is deceived in his answer, and I will stretch out My hand against him and will destroy him from the midst of My people Israel.

Pero si el profeta se deja persuadir y dice algo, soy Yo, el Señor, el que he persuadido a ese profeta, y extenderé Mi mano contra él y lo exterminaré de en medio de Mi pueblo Israel.

10 A nd they both shall bear the punishment of their iniquity: the iniquity of the prophet shall be the same as the iniquity of the inquirer,

Ambos llevarán el castigo de su iniquidad; como la iniquidad del que consulta será la iniquidad del profeta,

11 T hat the house of Israel may go no more astray from Me, neither defile themselves any more with all their transgressions, but that they may be My people, and I may be their God, says the Lord God.

a fin de que la casa de Israel no se desvíe más de Mí ni se contamine más con todas sus transgresiones. Y ellos serán Mi pueblo y Yo seré su Dios,”’” declara el Señor Dios.

12 T he word of the Lord came to me, saying,

Entonces vino a mí la palabra del Señor:

13 S on of man, when a land sins against Me by committing a trespass, and I stretch out My hand against it and break its staff of bread and send famine upon it and cut off from it man and beast,

“Hijo de hombre, si un país peca contra Mí cometiendo infidelidad, y Yo extiendo Mi mano contra él, destruyo su provisión de pan y envío hambre contra él y corto de él hombres y animales,

14 E ven if these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it, they would save but their own lives by their righteousness (their uprightness and right standing with Me), says the Lord God.

y aunque estos tres hombres, Noé, Daniel y Job, estuvieran en medio de ese país, sólo ellos se salvarían a sí mismos por su justicia,” declara el Señor Dios.

15 I f I cause ferocious and evil wild animals to pass through the land and they ravage and bereave it, and it becomes desolate so that no man may pass through because of the beasts;

Si Yo hiciera pasar por esa tierra fieras y ellas la despoblaran, y se volviera desolada sin que nadie pasara por ella a causa de las fieras,

16 T hough these three men were in it, as I live, says the Lord God, they would deliver neither sons nor daughters; they themselves alone would be delivered but the land would be desolate (laid waste and deserted).

aunque estos tres hombres estuvieran en medio de esa tierra, vivo Yo,” declara el Señor Dios, “ni a sus hijos ni a sus hijas podrían salvar; sólo ellos se salvarían, pero el país estaría desolado.

17 O r if I bring a sword upon that land and say, Sword, go through the land, so that I cut off man and beast from it,

O si Yo trajera la espada contra ese país, y dijera: ‘Pase la espada por el país,’ y extermino de él hombres y animales,

18 T hough these three men were in it, as I live, says the Lord God, they would deliver neither sons nor daughters, but they themselves alone would be delivered.

y estos tres hombres estuvieran en medio de él, vivo Yo,” declara el Señor Dios, “que no podrían salvar a sus hijos ni a sus hijas; sino que sólo ellos se salvarían.

19 O r if I send a pestilence into that land and pour out My wrath upon it in blood, to cut off from it man and beast,

O si Yo enviara una plaga contra ese país y derramara Mi furor sobre él con sangre, para cortar de él hombres y animales,

20 T hough Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it, as I live, says the Lord God, they would deliver neither son nor daughter; they would but deliver their own lives by their righteousness (their moral and spiritual rectitude in every area and relation).

aunque Noé, Daniel y Job estuvieran en medio de él, vivo Yo,” declara el Señor Dios, “que ni a su hijo ni a su hija podrían salvar; sólo ellos se librarían a sí mismos por su justicia.”

21 F or thus says the Lord God: How much more when I send My four sore acts of judgment upon Jerusalem—the sword, the famine, the evil wild beasts, and the pestilence—to cut off from it man and beast!

Porque así dice el Señor Dios: “¡Cuánto más cuando Yo envíe Mis cuatro terribles juicios contra Jerusalén: espada, hambre, fieras y plaga para exterminar de ella hombres y animales!

22 A nd yet, behold, in it shall be left a remnant (an escaped portion), both sons and daughters. They shall be carried forth to you, and when you see their walk and their doings, you will be consoled for the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, even concerning all that I have brought upon it.

Sin embargo, en ella quedarán sobrevivientes, hijos e hijas que serán sacados. Saldrán hacia ustedes y verán su conducta y sus obras; entonces serán consolados de la calamidad que he traído contra Jerusalén, de todo lo que he traído sobre ella.

23 A nd they shall console you when you see their evil ways and their rebellious actions. Then you shall know (understand and realize) that I have not done without cause all that I have done in Jerusalem, says the Lord God.

Y ellos los consolarán cuando vean sus caminos y sus obras, y sabrán que no he hecho en vano lo que hice en ella,” declara el Señor Dios.
