1 T he Lord said to Moses, Depart, go up from here, you and the people whom you have brought from the land of Egypt, to the land which I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, To your descendants I will give it.

Entonces el Señor dijo a Moisés: “Anda, sube de aquí, tú y el pueblo que has sacado de la tierra de Egipto, a la tierra de la cual juré a Abraham, a Isaac y a Jacob, diciendo: ‘A tu descendencia la daré.’

2 I will send an Angel before you, and I will drive out the Canaanite, Amorite, Hittite, Perizzite, Hivite, and Jebusite.

Enviaré un ángel delante de ti, y echaré fuera a los Cananeos, a los Amorreos, a los Hititas, a los Ferezeos, a los Heveos y a los Jebuseos.

3 G o up to a land flowing with milk and honey; but I will not go up among you, for you are a stiff-necked people, lest I destroy you on the way.

Sube a una tierra que mana leche y miel. Pues Yo no subiré en medio de ti, oh Israel, no sea que te destruya en el camino, porque eres un pueblo terco.”

4 W hen the people heard these evil tidings, they mourned and no man put on his ornaments.

Cuando el pueblo oyó esta mala noticia, hicieron duelo, y ninguno de ellos se puso sus joyas.

5 F or the Lord had said to Moses, Say to the Israelites, You are a stiff-necked people! If I should come among you for one moment, I would consume and destroy you. Now therefore leave off your ornaments, that I may know what to do with you.

Porque el Señor había dicho a Moisés: “Dile a los Israelitas: ‘Ustedes son un pueblo terco. Si por un momento Yo me presentara en medio de ustedes, los destruiría. Ahora pues, quítense sus joyas, para que Yo sepa qué he de hacer con ustedes.’”

6 A nd the Israelites left off all their ornaments, from Mount Horeb onward.

A partir del Monte Horeb los Israelitas se despojaron de sus joyas.

7 N ow Moses used to take tent and pitch it outside the camp, far off from the camp, and he called it the tent of meeting. And everyone who sought the Lord went out to tent of meeting which was outside the camp.

Moisés acostumbraba tomar la tienda, y la levantaba fuera del campamento a buena distancia de éste, y la llamó la tienda de reunión. Y sucedía que todo el que buscaba al Señor salía a la tienda de reunión, que estaba fuera del campamento.

8 W hen Moses went out to the tent of meeting, all the people rose and stood, every man at his tent door, and looked after Moses until he had gone into the tent.

Cuando Moisés salía a la tienda, todo el pueblo se levantaba y permanecía de pie, cada uno a la entrada de su tienda, y seguía con la vista a Moisés hasta que él entraba en la tienda.

9 W hen Moses entered the tent, the pillar of cloud would descend and stand at the door of the tent, and the Lord would talk with Moses.

También cuando Moisés entraba en la tienda, la columna de nube descendía y permanecía a la entrada de la tienda, y el Señor hablaba con Moisés.

10 A nd all the people saw the pillar of cloud stand at the tent door, and all the people rose up and worshiped, every man at his tent door.

Cuando todo el pueblo veía la columna de nube situada a la entrada de la tienda de reunión todos se levantaban y adoraban, cada cual a la entrada de su tienda.

11 A nd the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. Moses returned to the camp, but his minister Joshua son of Nun, a young man, did not depart from the tent.

Y el Señor acostumbraba hablar con Moisés cara a cara, como habla un hombre con su amigo. Cuando Moisés regresaba al campamento, su joven ayudante Josué, hijo de Nun, no se apartaba de la tienda. Moisés Responde al Señor

12 M oses said to the Lord, See, You say to me, Bring up this people, but You have not let me know whom You will send with me. Yet You said, I know you by name and you have also found favor in My sight.

Entonces Moisés dijo al Señor: “Mira, Tú me dices: ‘Haz subir a este pueblo.’ Pero Tú no me has declarado a quién enviarás conmigo. Además has dicho: ‘Te he conocido por tu nombre, y también has hallado gracia ante Mis ojos.’

13 N ow therefore, I pray You, if I have found favor in Your sight, show me now Your way, that I may know You and that I may find favor in Your sight. And consider that this nation is Your people.

Ahora pues, si he hallado gracia ante Tus ojos, Te ruego que me hagas conocer Tus caminos para que yo Te conozca y halle gracia ante Tus ojos. Considera también que esta nación es Tu pueblo.”

14 A nd the Lord said, My Presence shall go with you, and I will give you rest.

“Mi presencia irá contigo, y Yo te daré descanso,” le contestó el Señor.

15 A nd Moses said to the Lord, If Your Presence does not go with me, do not carry us up from here!

Entonces Moisés le dijo: “Si Tu presencia no va con nosotros, no nos hagas salir de aquí.

16 F or by what shall it be known that I and Your people have found favor in Your sight? Is it not in Your going with us so that we are distinguished, I and Your people, from all the other people upon the face of the earth?

¿Pues en qué se conocerá que he hallado gracia ante Tus ojos, yo y Tu pueblo? ¿No es acaso en que Tú vayas con nosotros, para que nosotros, yo y Tu pueblo, nos distingamos de todos los demás pueblos que están sobre la superficie de la tierra ?”

17 A nd the Lord said to Moses, I will do this thing also that you have asked, for you have found favor, loving-kindness, and mercy in My sight and I know you personally and by name.

Y el Señor respondió a Moisés: “También haré esto que has hablado, por cuanto has hallado gracia ante Mis ojos y te he conocido por tu nombre.”

18 A nd Moses said, I beseech You, show me Your glory.

Entonces Moisés dijo: “Te ruego que me muestres Tu gloria.”

19 A nd God said, I will make all My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim My name, The Lord, before you; for I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy and loving-kindness on whom I will show mercy and loving-kindness.

Y el Señor respondió: “Yo haré pasar toda Mi bondad delante de ti, y proclamaré el nombre del Señor delante de ti. Tendré misericordia del que tendré misericordia, y tendré compasión de quien tendré compasión.”

20 B ut, He said, You can not see My face, for no man shall see Me and live.

Y añadió: “No puedes ver Mi rostro; porque nadie Me puede ver, y vivir.”

21 A nd the Lord said, Behold, there is a place beside Me, and you shall stand upon the rock,

Entonces el Señor dijo: “Hay un lugar junto a Mí, y tú estarás sobre la peña;

22 A nd while My glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft of the rock and cover you with My hand until I have passed by.

y sucederá que al pasar Mi gloria, te pondré en una hendidura de la peña y te cubriré con Mi mano hasta que Yo haya pasado.

23 T hen I will take away My hand and you shall see My back; but My face shall not be seen.

Después apartaré Mi mano y verás Mis espaldas; pero Mi rostro no se verá.”
