1 T hen after of fourteen years I again went up to Jerusalem. with Barnabas, taking Titus along with also.
Entonces, después de catorce años, subí otra vez a Jerusalén con Bernabé, llevando también a Tito.
2 I went because it was specially and divinely revealed to me that I should go, and I put before them the Gospel which I preach among the Gentiles. However, privately before those of repute, that I was not running or had not run in vain.
Subí por causa de una revelación y les presenté el evangelio que predico entre los Gentiles, pero lo hice en privado a los que tenían alta reputación, para asegurarme de que no corría ni había corrido en vano.
3 B ut even Titus, who was with me, was not compelled to be circumcised, although he was a Greek.
Pero ni aun Tito, que estaba conmigo, fue obligado a circuncidarse, aunque era Griego.
4 b ecause of false brethren who had been secretly smuggled in; they had slipped in to spy on our liberty and the freedom which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might again bring us into bondage.
Y esto fue por causa de los falsos hermanos introducidos secretamente, que se habían infiltrado para espiar la libertad que tenemos en Cristo Jesús, a fin de someternos a esclavitud,
5 T o them we did not yield submission even for a moment, that the truth of the Gospel might continue to be for you.
a los cuales ni por un momento cedimos, para no someternos, a fin de que la verdad del evangelio permanezca con ustedes.
6 M oreover, by those who were reputed to be something—though what was their individual position and whether they really were of importance or not makes no difference to me; God is not impressed with the positions that men hold and He is not partial and recognizes no external distinctions—those who were of repute imposed no new requirements upon me.
Y de aquéllos que tenían reputación de ser algo (lo que eran, nada me importa; Dios no hace acepción de personas ); pues bien, los que tenían reputación, nada me enseñaron (contribuyeron).
7 B ut on the contrary, when they saw that I had been entrusted the Gospel to the uncircumcised as Peter had been entrusted the Gospel to the circumcised;
Sino al contrario, vieron que se me había encomendado el evangelio a los de la incircuncisión, así como Pedro lo había sido a los de la circuncisión.
8 F or He Who motivated and fitted Peter and worked effectively through him for the mission to the circumcised, motivated and fitted me and worked through me also for the Gentiles.
(Porque Aquél que obró eficazmente para con Pedro en su apostolado a los de la circuncisión, también obró eficazmente para conmigo en mi apostolado a los Gentiles.)
9 A nd when they knew (perceived, recognized, understood, and acknowledged) the grace (God’s unmerited favor and spiritual blessing) that had been bestowed upon me, James and Cephas (Peter) and John, who were reputed to be pillars of the Jerusalem church, gave to me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship, with the understanding that we should go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised (Jews).
Al reconocer la gracia que se me había dado, Jacobo (Santiago), Pedro (Cefas) y Juan, que eran considerados como columnas, nos dieron a mí y a Bernabé la diestra de compañerismo, para que nosotros fuéramos a los Gentiles y ellos a los de la circuncisión.
10 T hey only, that we were to remember the poor, which very thing I was also eager to do.
Sólo nos pidieron que nos acordáramos de los pobres, lo mismo que yo estaba también deseoso de hacer. Judíos y Gentiles Justificados por la Fe
11 B ut when Cephas (Peter) came to Antioch, I protested and opposed him to his face, for he was blameable and stood condemned.
Pero cuando Pedro (Cefas) vino a Antioquía, me opuse a él cara a cara, porque él era digno de ser censurado.
12 F or up to the time that certain persons came from James, he ate his meals with the Gentile; but when the men arrived, he withdrew and held himself aloof from the Gentiles and separately for fear of those of the circumcision.
Porque antes de venir algunos de parte de Jacobo (Santiago), él comía con los Gentiles, pero cuando aquéllos vinieron, Pedro empezó a retraerse y apartarse, porque temía a los de la circuncisión.
13 A nd the rest of the Jews along with him also concealed their true convictions and acted insincerely, with the result that even Barnabas was carried away by their hypocrisy (their example of insincerity and pretense).
Y el resto de los Judíos se le unió en su hipocresía, de tal manera que aun Bernabé fue arrastrado por la hipocresía de ellos.
14 B ut as soon as I saw that they were not straightforward and were not living up to the truth of the Gospel, I said to Cephas (Peter) before everybody present, If you, though born a Jew, can live like a Gentile and not like a Jew, how do you dare now to urge and practically force the Gentiles to live like Jews?
Pero cuando vi que no andaban con rectitud en cuanto a la verdad del evangelio, dije a Pedro (Cefas) delante de todos: “Si tú, siendo Judío, vives como los Gentiles y no como los Judíos, ¿por qué obligas a los Gentiles a vivir como Judíos?
15 A lthough we ourselves (you and I) are Jews by birth and not Gentile (heathen) sinners,
“Nosotros somos Judíos de nacimiento y no pecadores de entre los Gentiles.
16 Y et we know that a man is justified or reckoned righteous and in right standing with God not by works of the Law, but through faith and reliance on and adherence to and trust in Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One). even we have believed on Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the Law, because by keeping legal rituals and by works no human being can ever be justified (declared righteous and put in right standing with God).
Sin embargo, sabiendo que el hombre no es justificado por las obras de la Ley, sino mediante la fe en Cristo Jesús, también nosotros hemos creído en Cristo Jesús, para que seamos justificados por la fe en Cristo, y no por las obras de la Ley. Puesto que por las obras de la Ley nadie será justificado.
17 B ut if, in our desire and endeavor to be justified in Christ, we have shown ourselves sinners also and convicted of sin, does that make Christ a minister (a party and contributor) to our sin? Banish the thought!
Pero si buscando ser justificados en Cristo, también nosotros hemos sido hallados pecadores, ¿es Cristo, entonces, ministro de pecado? ¡De ningún modo!
18 F or if I build up again what I tore down, I prove myself a transgressor.
Porque si yo reedifico lo que en otro tiempo destruí, yo mismo resulto transgresor.
19 F or I through the Law have myself died to the Law and all the Law’s demands upon me, so that I may live to and for God.
Pues mediante la Ley yo morí a la Ley, a fin de vivir para Dios.
20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ (the Messiah) lives in me; and the life I now live in the body I live by faith in (by adherence to and reliance on and complete trust in) the Son of God, Who loved me and gave Himself up for me.
“Con Cristo he sido crucificado, y ya no soy yo el que vive, sino que Cristo vive en mí; y la vida que ahora vivo en la carne, la vivo por la fe en el Hijo de Dios, el cual me amó y se entregó a sí mismo por mí.
21 I do not set aside and invalidate and frustrate and nullify the grace (unmerited favor) of God. For if justification (righteousness, acquittal from guilt) comes through the Law, then Christ (the Messiah) died groundlessly and to no purpose and in vain.
No hago nula la gracia de Dios, porque si la justicia viene por medio de la Ley, entonces Cristo murió en vano.”
