1 T hen the Lord said to me, Take a large tablet and write upon it with a graving tool and in ordinary characters: Belonging to Maher-shalal-hash-baz.

Y me dijo el SEÑOR: Tómate un gran volumen, y escribe en él en estilo vulgar Maher-salal-hasbaz. Date prisa al despojo, apresúrate a la presa.

2 A nd I took faithful witnesses to record and attest for me, Uriah the priest and Zechariah son of Jeberechiah.

Y junté conmigo por testigos fieles a Urías, el sacerdote, y a Zacarías hijo de Jeberequías.

3 A nd I approached the prophetess, and when she had conceived and borne a son, the Lord said to me, Call his name Maher-shalal-hash-baz,

Y me junté con la profetisa, la cual concibió, y dio a luz un hijo. Y me dijo el SEÑOR: Ponle por nombre Maher-salal-hasbaz.

4 F or before the child knows how to say, My father or my mother, the riches of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria shall be carried away before the king of Assyria.

Porque antes que el niño sepa decir, Padre mío, y Madre mía, será quitada la fuerza de Damasco y los despojos de Samaria, en la presencia del rey de Asiria.

5 T he Lord spoke to me yet again and said,

Otra vez me tornó el SEÑOR a hablar, diciendo:

6 B ecause this people have refused and despised the waters of Shiloah that go gently, and rejoice in and with Rezin and Remaliah’s son,

Por cuanto desechó este pueblo las aguas de Siloé, que corren mansamente, y con Rezín y con el hijo de Remalías se regocijó,

7 N ow therefore, behold, the Lord brings upon them the waters of the River, strong and many—even the king of Assyria and all the glory; and it will rise over all its channels, brooks, valleys, and canals and extend far beyond its banks;

he aquí, por tanto, que el Señor hace subir sobre ellos aguas de río, impetuosas y muchas, es a saber, al rey de Asiria con todo su poder: el cual subirá sobre todos sus ríos, y pasará sobre todas sus riberas;

8 A nd it will sweep on into Judah; it will overflow and go over, reaching even to the neck, and the outstretched wings shall fill the breadth of Your land, O Immanuel!

y pasando hasta Judá, inundará, y sobrepujará, y llegará hasta la garganta; y extendiendo sus alas, llenará la anchura de tu tierra, oh Emmanuel.

9 M ake an uproar and be broken in pieces, O you peoples! Give ear, all you of far countries. Gird yourselves, and be thrown into consternation! Gird yourselves, and be dismayed!

Juntaos, pueblos, y seréis quebrantados; oíd, todos los que sois de lejanas tierras; poneos a punto, y seréis quebrantados; ceñíos, y seréis quebrantados.

10 T ake counsel together, but it shall come to nought; speak the word, but it will not stand, for God is with us!

Tomad consejo, y será deshecho; proferid palabra, y no será firme, porque Dios está con nosotros.

11 F or the Lord spoke thus to me with His strong hand, and warned and instructed me not to walk in the way of this people, saying,

Porque el SEÑOR me dijo de esta manera con mano fuerte, y me enseñó que no caminara por el camino de este pueblo, diciendo:

12 D o not call conspiracy all that this people will call conspiracy; neither be in fear of what they fear, nor in dread.

No llaméis, conjuración, a todas las cosas a que este pueblo llama conjuración; ni temáis su temor, ni le tengáis miedo.

13 T he Lord of hosts—regard Him as holy and honor His holy name, and let Him be your fear and let Him be your dread.

Al SEÑOR de los ejércitos, a él santificad; El sea vuestro temor, y él sea vuestro miedo.

14 A nd He shall be a sanctuary; but He shall be a Stone of stumbling and a Rock of offense to both the houses of Israel, a trap and a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

Entonces él será por santuario; y a las dos casas de Israel por piedra para tropezar, y por tropezadero para caer; por lazo, y por red al morador de Jerusalén.

15 A nd many among them shall stumble thereon; and they shall fall and be broken, and be snared and taken.

Y muchos tropezarán entre ellos; y caerán, y serán quebrantados; se enredarán, y serán presos.

16 B ind up the testimony, seal the law and the teaching among my disciples.

Ata el testimonio, sella la ley entre mis discípulos.

17 A nd I will wait for the Lord, Who is hiding His face from the house of Jacob; and I will look for and hope in Him.

Esperaré, pues, al SEÑOR, el cual escondió su rostro de la casa de Jacob, y a él aguardaré.

18 B ehold, I and the children whom the Lord has given me are signs and wonders in Israel from the Lord of hosts, Who dwells on Mount Zion.

He aquí, yo y los hijos que me dio el SEÑOR, somos por señales y prodigios en Israel, de parte del SEÑOR de los ejércitos, que mora en el Monte de Sion.

19 A nd when the people shall say to you, Consult for direction mediums and wizards who chirp and mutter, should not a people seek and consult their God? Should they consult the dead on behalf of the living?

Y si os dijeren: Preguntad a los espiritistas y a los adivinos, que susurran hablando, responded: ¿Por ventura no consultará el pueblo a su Dios? ¿ Apelará por los vivos a los muertos?

20 t o the teaching and to the testimony! If their teachings are not in accord with this word, it is surely because there is no dawn and no morning for them.

¡A la ley y al testimonio! Si no dijeren conforme a esto, es porque no les ha amanecido.

21 A nd they shall pass through sorely distressed and hungry; and when they are hungry, they will fret, and will curse by their king and their God; and whether they look upward

Entonces pasarán por esta tierra fatigados y hambrientos. Y acontecerá que teniendo hambre, se enojarán y maldecirán a su rey y a su Dios. Y levantando el rostro en alto,

22 O r look to the earth, they will behold only distress and darkness, the gloom of anguish, and into thick darkness and widespread, obscure night they shall be driven away.

y mirarán a la tierra, y he aquí tribulación y tinieblas, oscuridad y angustia; y serán sumidos en las tinieblas.
