1 N ow the prophets, Haggai and Zechariah son of Iddo, prophesied to the Jews in Judah and Jerusalem in the name of the God of Israel, Whose was upon them.

Y profetizaron Hageo profeta, y Zacarías hijo de Iddo, profetas, a los judíos que estaban en Judá y en Jerusalén en el nombre del Dios de Israel a ellos.

2 T hen rose up Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and Jeshua son of Jozadak and began to build the house of God in Jerusalem; and with them were the prophets of God, helping them.

Entonces se levantaron Zorobabel hijo de Salatiel, y Jesúa hijo de Josadac; y comenzaron a edificar la Casa de Dios que estaba en Jerusalén; y con ellos los profetas de Dios que les ayudaban.

3 T hen Tattenai, governor on the west side of the River, and Shethar-bozenai and their companions came to them and said, Who authorized you to build this house and to restore this wall?

En aquel tiempo vino a ellos Tatnai, capitán de este lado del río, y Setar-boznai y sus compañeros, y les dijeron así: ¿Quién os dio mandamiento para edificar esta Casa, y fundar estos muros?

4 T hen we told them the names of the men who were building this building.

Entonces les dijimos en orden a esto, ¡cuáles eran los nombres de los varones que edificaban este edificio!

5 B ut the eye of their God was upon the elders of the Jews, so the enemy could not make them stop until the matter came before Darius and an answer was returned by letter concerning it.

Mas los ojos de su Dios fueron sobre los ancianos de los judíos, y no les hicieron cesar hasta que el negocio viniera a Darío; y entonces respondieron por carta sobre esto.

6 T his is a copy of the letter that Tattenai, governor on this side of the River, and Shethar-bozenai and his associates, the Apharsachites who were on this side of the River, sent to Darius the king.

Traslado de la carta que Tatnai, capitán de este lado del río, y Setar-boznai, y sus compañeros los afarsaqueos, que estaban a este lado del río, enviaron al rey Darío.

7 T hey wrote: To Darius the king: All peace.

Le enviaron carta, y de esta manera estaba escrito en ella. Al rey Darío toda paz.

8 B e it known to the king that we went to the province of Judah, to the house of the great God. It is being built with huge stones, with timber laid in the walls; this work goes on with diligence and care and prospers in their hands.

Sea notorio al rey, que fuimos a la provincia de Judea, a la Casa del gran Dios, la cual se edifica de piedra de mármol; y los maderos son puestos en las paredes, y la obra se hace aprisa, y prospera en sus manos.

9 T hen we asked those elders, Who authorized you to build this house and restore these walls?

Entonces preguntamos a los ancianos, diciéndoles así: ¿Quién os dio mandamiento para edificar esta Casa, y para fundar estos muros?

10 W e asked their names also, that we might record the names of the men at their head and notify you.

Y también les preguntamos sus nombres para hacértelo saber, para escribirte los nombres de los varones que estaban por cabezas de ellos.

11 T hey replied, We are servants of the God of heaven and earth, rebuilding the house which was erected and finished many years ago by a great king of Israel.

Y nos respondieron diciendo así: Nosotros somos siervos del Dios del cielo y de la tierra, y reedificamos la Casa que ha sido edificada hace muchos años, la cual edificó y fundó el gran rey de Israel.

12 B ut after our fathers had provoked the God of heaven to wrath, He gave them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, the Chaldean, who destroyed this house and carried the people away into Babylon.

Mas después que nuestros padres se ensañaron contra el Dios de los cielos, él los entregó en mano de Nabucodonosor rey de Babilonia, caldeo, el cual destruyó esta Casa, e hizo transportar el pueblo a Babilonia.

13 B ut in the first year of Cyrus king of Babylon, the same King Cyrus made a decree to rebuild this house of God.

Pero el primer año de Ciro rey de Babilonia, el mismo rey Ciro dio mandamiento para que esta Casa de Dios fuera edificada.

14 A nd the vessels also of gold and silver of the house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar took from the temple in Jerusalem and brought into the temple of Babylon, King Cyrus took from the temple of Babylon and delivered to a man named Sheshbazzar, whom he had made governor.

Y también los vasos de oro y de plata de la Casa de Dios, que Nabucodonosor había sacado del templo que estaba en Jerusalén, y los había metido en el templo de Babilonia, el rey Ciro los sacó del templo de Babilonia, y fueron entregados a Sesbasar, al cual había puesto por capitán;

15 A nd King Cyrus said to him, Go, take these vessels to Jerusalem and carry them into the temple, and let the house of God be built upon its site.

y le dijo: Toma estos vasos, ve y ponlos en el templo que está en Jerusalén; y la Casa de Dios sea edificada en su lugar.

16 T hen came this Sheshbazzar and laid the foundation of the house of God in Jerusalem; and since that time until now it has been in the process of being rebuilt and is not completed yet.

Entonces este Sesbasar vino, y puso los fundamentos de la Casa de Dios que estaba en Jerusalén, y desde entonces hasta ahora se edifica, y aún no está acabada.

17 S o now, if it seems good to the king, let a search be made in the royal archives there in Babylon to see if it is true that King Cyrus issued a decree to build this house of God at Jerusalem; and let the king send us his pleasure in this matter.

Y ahora, si al rey parece bien, búsquese en la casa de los tesoros del rey que está allí en Babilonia, si es así que por el rey Ciro haya sido dado mandamiento para edificar esta Casa de Dios que está en Jerusalén, y envíenos a decir la voluntad del rey sobre esto.
