1 K ing Josiah sent and gathered to him all the elders of Judah and of Jerusalem.

Entonces el rey envió, y juntaron a él todos los ancianos de Judá y de Jerusalén.

2 T he king went up to the house of the Lord, and with him all the men of Judah, all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the priests, the prophets, and all the people, both small and great. And he read in their ears all the words of the Book of the Covenant, which was found in the Lord’s house.

Y subió el rey a la Casa del SEÑOR con todos los varones de Judá, y con todos los moradores de Jerusalén, con los sacerdotes y profetas y con todo el pueblo, desde el más chico hasta el más grande; y leyó, a oídos de todos, todas las palabras del libro del pacto que había sido hallado en la Casa del SEÑOR.

3 T he king stood by the pillar and made a covenant before the Lord—to walk after the Lord and to keep His commandments, His testimonies, and His statutes with all his heart and soul, to confirm the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people stood to join in the covenant.

Y poniéndose el rey en pie junto a la columna, hizo pacto delante del SEÑOR, de que irían en pos del SEÑOR, y guardarían sus mandamientos, y sus testimonios, y sus estatutos, con todo el corazón y con toda el alma, y que cumplirían las palabras de la alianza que estaban escritas en aquel libro. Y todo el pueblo confirmó el pacto.

4 A nd the king commanded Hilkiah the high priest and the priests of the second rank and the keepers of the threshold to bring out of the temple of the Lord all the vessels made for Baal, for Asherah, and for all the hosts of the heavens; and he burned them outside Jerusalem in the fields of the Kidron, and carried their ashes to Bethel.

Entonces mandó el rey al sumo sacerdote Hilcías, y a los sacerdotes de la segunda orden, y a los guardianes de la puerta, que sacaran del templo del SEÑOR todos los vasos que habían sido hechos para Baal, y para el bosque, y para todo el ejército del cielo; y los quemó fuera de Jerusalén en el campo de Cedrón, e hizo llevar las cenizas de ellos a Bet-el.

5 H e put away the idolatrous priests whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense in the high places in Judah’s cities and round about Jerusalem—also those who burned incense to Baal, to the sun, to the moon, to the constellations, and to all the hosts of the heavens.

Y quitó a los religiosos, que habían puesto los reyes de Judá para que quemaran incienso en los lugares altos en las ciudades de Judá, y en los alrededores de Jerusalén; y asimismo a los que quemaban incienso a Baal, al sol, y a la luna, y a los signos, y a todo el ejército del cielo.

6 A nd Josiah brought the Asherah from the house of the Lord to outside Jerusalem to the brook Kidron and burned it there, and beat it to dust and cast its dust upon the graves of the common people.

Hizo también sacar la entalladura del bosque fuera de la Casa del SEÑOR, fuera de Jerusalén, al arroyo de Cedrón, y la quemó en el arroyo de Cedrón, y la tornó en polvo, y echó el polvo de ella sobre los sepulcros de los hijos del pueblo.

7 A nd he broke down the houses of the male cult prostitutes, which were by the house of the Lord, where the women wove hangings for the Asherah.

Asimismo derribó las casas de los prostitutos del culto pagano que estaban junto a la Casa del SEÑOR, en las cuales tejían las mujeres pabellones para el bosque.

8 A nd brought all the priests out of the city of Judah and defiled the high places, where the priests had burned incense, from Geba to Beersheba, and broke down the high places both at the entrance of the Gate of Joshua the governor of the city and that which was on one’s left at the city’s gate.

E hizo venir todos los sacerdotes de las ciudades de Judá, y profanó los lugares altos donde los sacerdotes quemaban incienso, desde Gabaa hasta Beerseba; y derribó los lugares altos de las puertas y los que estaban a la entrada de la puerta de Josué, gobernador de la ciudad; y los que estaban a la mano izquierda, a la puerta de la ciudad.

9 H owever, the priests of the high places were not allowed to sacrifice upon the Lord’s altar in Jerusalem, but they ate unleavened bread among their brethren.

Pero los sacerdotes de los lugares altos no subían al altar del SEÑOR en Jerusalén, mas comían panes sin levadura entre sus hermanos.

10 A nd Josiah defiled Topheth, which is in the Valley of Ben-hinnom, that no man might ever burn there his son or his daughter as an offering to Molech.

Asimismo profanó a Tofet, que está en el valle del hijo de Hinom, para que ninguno pasara su hijo o su hija por fuego a Moloc.

11 A nd he removed the horses that the kings of Judah had devoted to the sun from the entrance of the house of the Lord, by the chamber of Nathan-melech the chamberlain, which was in the area, and he burned the chariots of the sun with fire.

Asimismo quitó los caballos que los reyes de Judá habían dedicado al sol a la entrada del templo del SEÑOR, junto a la cámara de Natán-melec, el eunuco, el cual tenía cargo del Parbar; y quemó al fuego los carros del sol.

12 A nd the altars on the roof of the upper chamber of Ahaz, which the kings of Judah had made, and the altars which Manasseh had made in the two courts of the house of the Lord, pulled down and beat them in pieces, and he cast their dust into the brook Kidron.

Asimismo derribó el rey los altares que estaban sobre la techumbre de la sala de Acaz, que los reyes de Judá habían hecho, y los altares que había hecho Manasés en los dos atrios de la Casa del SEÑOR; y de allí corrió y arrojó el polvo en el arroyo de Cedrón.

13 A nd the king defiled the high places east of Jerusalem, south of the Mount of Corruption, which Solomon the king of Israel had built for Ashtoreth the abominable of the Sidonians, for Chemosh the abominable god of the Moabites, and for Milcom the abominable of the Ammonites.

Asimismo profanó el rey los lugares altos que estaban delante de Jerusalén, a la mano derecha del monte de la destrucción, los cuales Salomón rey de Israel había edificado a Astarot, abominación de los sidonios, y a Quemos abominación de Moab, y a Milcom abominación de los hijos de Amón.

14 H e broke in pieces the pillars (images) and cut down the Asherim and replaced them with the bones of men.

Y quebró las estatuas, y taló los bosques, y llenó el lugar de ellos de huesos de hombres.

15 M oreover, the altar at Bethel, the high place made by Jeroboam son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, that altar with the high place Josiah tore down and broke in pieces its stones, beating them to dust, and burned the Asherah.

Asimismo el altar que estaba en Bet-el, y el lugar alto que había hecho Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, el que hizo pecar a Israel, aquel altar y el lugar alto destruyó; y quemó el lugar alto, y lo tornó en polvo, y puso fuego al bosque.

16 A nd as Josiah turned, he saw the tombs across on the mount, and he sent and brought the bones out of the tombs and burned them upon the altar and defiled it, in fulfillment of the word of the Lord which the man of God prophesied, who predicted these things.

Y se volvió Josías, y vio los sepulcros que estaban allí en el monte, y envió y quitó los huesos de los sepulcros, y los quemó sobre el altar para contaminarlo, conforme a la palabra del SEÑOR la cual había proclamado el varón de Dios, que había proclamado estos negocios.

17 J osiah said, What is that monument I see? The men of the city told him, It is the tomb of the man of God who came from Judah and foretold these things that you have just done against the altar of Bethel.

Y después dijo: ¿Qué título es éste que veo? Y los de la ciudad le respondieron: Este es el sepulcro del varón de Dios que vino de Judá, y proclamó estas cosas que tú has hecho sobre el altar de Bet-el.

18 H e said, Let him alone; let no man move his bones. So they let his bones alone, with the bones of the prophet that came out of Samaria.

Y él dijo: Dejadlo; ninguno mueva sus huesos; y así fueron salvados sus huesos, y los huesos del profeta que había venido de Samaria.

19 A lso Josiah took away all the houses of the high places in the cities of Samaria which the kings of Israel had made, provoking the Lord to anger, and he did to them all that he had done in Bethel.

Finalmente todas las casas de los lugares altos que estaban en las ciudades de Samaria, las cuales habían hecho los reyes de Israel para provocar a ira, Josías las quitó, e hizo de ellas como había hecho en Bet-el.

20 H e slew all the priests of the high places that were there upon the altars and burned men’s bones upon them. Then he returned to Jerusalem.

Y mató sobre los altares a todos los sacerdotes de los lugares altos que allí estaban, y quemó sobre ellos los huesos de los hombres, y se volvió a Jerusalén.

21 T he king commanded all the people, Keep the Passover to the Lord your God, as it is written in this Book of the Covenant.

¶ Entonces mandó el rey a todo el pueblo, diciendo: Haced la pascua al SEÑOR vuestro Dios, conforme a lo que está escrito en el libro de este pacto.

22 S urely such a Passover was not held from the days of Israel’s judges, even in all the days of the kings of Israel or Judah.

No fue hecha tal pascua desde los tiempos de los jueces que gobernaron a Israel, ni en todos los tiempos de los reyes de Israel, y de los reyes de Judá.

23 B ut in the eighteenth year of King Josiah, this Passover was kept to the Lord in Jerusalem.

A los dieciocho años del rey Josías fue hecha aquella pascua al SEÑOR en Jerusalén.

24 M oreover, Josiah put away the mediums, the wizards, the teraphim (household gods), the idols, and all the abominations that were seen in Judah and in Jerusalem, that he might establish the words of the law written in the book found by Hilkiah the priest in the house of the Lord.

Asimismo quemó Josías los espiritistas, adivinos, y terafines, y todas las abominaciones que se veían en la tierra de Judá y en Jerusalén, para confirmar las palabras de la ley que estaban escritas en el libro que el sacerdote Hilcías había hallado en la Casa del SEÑOR.

25 T here was no king like him before or after who turned to the Lord with all his heart and all his soul and all his might, according to all the Law of Moses.

No hubo tal rey antes de él que así se convirtiera al SEÑOR con todo su corazón, y con toda su alma, y con todas sus fuerzas, conforme a toda la ley de Moisés; ni después de él nació otro tal.

26 S till the Lord did not turn from the fierceness of His great wrath, kindled against Judah because of all the provocations with which Manasseh had provoked Him.

Con todo eso el SEÑOR no se volvió del furor de su gran ira, con que se había encendido su ira contra Judá, por todas las provocaciones con que Manasés le había provocado a ira.

27 A nd the Lord said, I will remove Judah also out of My sight as I have removed Israel, and will cast off this city, Jerusalem, which I have chosen, and the house, of which I said, My Name shall be there.

Y dijo el SEÑOR: También tengo que quitar de mi presencia a Judá, como quité a Israel, y tengo que rechazar a esta ciudad que había escogido, a Jerusalén, y a la Casa de la cual yo había dicho: Mi nombre será allí.

28 T he rest of the acts of Josiah, all that he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of Judah’s Kings?

Los demás hechos de Josías, y todas las cosas que hizo, ¿no está todo escrito en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Judá?

29 I n his days Pharaoh Necho king of Egypt went up against the king of Assyria to the river Euphrates. King Josiah went out against him, but he slew Josiah at Megiddo when he saw him.

¶ En aquellos días el Faraón Necao rey de Egipto subió contra el rey de Asiria al río Eufrates, y salió contra él el rey Josías; pero aquel así que le vio, lo mató en Meguido.

30 J osiah’s servants carried him dead in a chariot from Megiddo, brought him to Jerusalem, and buried him in his own tomb. The people of the land anointed Jehoahaz son of Josiah king in his stead.

Y sus siervos lo pusieron en un carro, y lo trajeron muerto de Meguido a Jerusalén, y lo sepultaron en su sepulcro. Entonces el pueblo de la tierra tomó a Joacaz hijo de Josías, y lo ungieron y lo pusieron por rey en lugar de su padre.

31 J ehoahaz was twenty-three years old when he began his three-month reign in Jerusalem. His mother was Hamutal daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.

De veintitrés años era Joacaz cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó tres meses en Jerusalén. El nombre de su madre fue Hamutal, hija de Jeremías de Libna.

32 H e did evil in the sight of the Lord, according to all his forefathers had done.

Y él hizo lo malo ante los ojos del SEÑOR, conforme a todas las cosas que sus padres habían hecho.

33 A nd Pharaoh Necho put him in bonds at Riblah in the land of Hamath, that he might not reign in Jerusalem, and laid a tribute of a hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold upon the land.

Y lo echó preso el Faraón Necao en Ribla en la provincia de Hamat, reinando él en Jerusalén; e impuso sobre la tierra una multa de cien talentos de plata, y uno de oro.

34 P haraoh Necho made Eliakim son of Josiah king in place of Josiah and changed his name to Jehoiakim. But he took Jehoahaz away to Egypt, where he died.

Entonces Faraón Necao puso por rey a Eliacim hijo de Josías, en lugar de Josías su padre, y le mudó el nombre por el de Joacim; y tomó a Joacaz, y se lo llevó a Egipto, y murió allí.

35 J ehoiakim gave the silver and the gold to Pharaoh, but he taxed the land to give the money as Pharaoh commanded. He exacted the silver and gold of the people of the land, from everyone according to his assessment, to give it to Pharaoh Necho.

Y Joacim pagó a Faraón la plata y el oro; e hizo apreciar la tierra para dar este dinero conforme al mandamiento del Faraón, sacando de cada uno, según la estimación de su hacienda, la plata y el oro de todo el pueblo de la tierra, para darlo a Faraón Necao.

36 J ehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he began his eleven-year reign in Jerusalem. His mother was Zebidah daughter of Pedaiah of Rumah.

De veinticinco años era Joacim cuando comenzó a reinar, y once años reinó en Jerusalén. El nombre de su madre fue Zebuda hija de Pedaías, de Ruma.

37 H e did evil in the sight of the Lord, like all his had done.

E hizo lo malo ante los ojos del SEÑOR, conforme a todas las cosas que sus padres habían hecho.
