1 I n the eighteenth year of King Jeroboam, Abijah began to reign over Judah.

A los dieciocho años del rey Jeroboam, reinó Abías sobre Judá.

2 H e reigned three years in Jerusalem. His mother was Micaiah daughter of Uriel of Gibeah. And there was war between Abijah and Jeroboam of Israel.

Y reinó tres años en Jerusalén. El nombre de su madre fue Micaías hija de Uriel de Gabaa. Y hubo guerra entre Abías y Jeroboam.

3 A nd Abijah prepared for battle with an army of valiant men of war, 400, 000 chosen men. Jeroboam set the battle in array against him with 800, 000 chosen men, mighty men of valor.

Entonces ordenó Abías batalla con el ejército de los valerosos en la guerra, cuatrocientos mil hombres escogidos; y Jeroboam ordenó batalla contra él con ochocientos mil hombres escogidos, fuertes y valerosos.

4 A nd Abijah stood on Mount Zemaraim, in the hill country of Ephraim, and said, Hear me, O Jeroboam and all Israel!

Y se levantó Abías sobre el monte de Zemaraim, que es en los montes de Efraín, y dijo: Oídme, Jeroboam y todo Israel.

5 O ught you not to know that the Lord, the God of Israel, gave the kingship over Israel to David forever, even to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt?

¿No sabéis vosotros, que el SEÑOR Dios de Israel dio el reino a David sobre Israel para siempre, a él y a sus hijos en alianza de sal?

6 Y et Jeroboam son of Nebat, a servant of Solomon son of David, rose up and rebelled against his lord.

Pero Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, siervo de Salomón hijo de David, se levantó y se rebeló contra su señor;

7 A nd there gathered to him worthless men, base fellows, who strengthened themselves against Rehoboam son of Solomon when Rehoboam was young, irresolute, and inexperienced and did not withstand them with firmness and strength.

y que se allegaron a él hombres vanos, hijos de Belial, y pudieron más que Roboam hijo de Salomón, porque Roboam era joven y tierno de corazón, y no se defendió de ellos.

8 A nd now you think to withstand the kingdom of the Lord which is in the hands of the sons of David, because you are a great multitude and you have with you the golden calves which Jeroboam made for you for gods.

Y ahora vosotros consultáis para fortificaros contra el reino del SEÑOR que está en mano de los hijos de David; porque sois muchos, y tenéis con vosotros los becerros de oro que Jeroboam os hizo por dioses.

9 H ave you not driven out the priests of the Lord, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and made priests for yourselves like the peoples of other lands? So whoever comes to consecrate himself with a young bull and seven rams may be a priest of idols that are not gods.

¿No echasteis vosotros a los sacerdotes del SEÑOR, a los hijos de Aarón, y a los levitas, y os habéis hecho sacerdotes a la manera de los pueblos de otras tierras, para que cualquiera venga a consagrarse con un becerro y siete carneros, y así sea sacerdote de los que no son dioses?

10 B ut as for us, the Lord is our God, and we have not forsaken Him. We have priests ministering to the Lord who are sons of Aaron, and Levites for their service.

Mas en cuanto a nosotros, el SEÑOR es nuestro Dios, y no le hemos dejado; y los sacerdotes que ministran al SEÑOR son los hijos de Aarón, y los levitas son los que están en la obra;

11 T hey offer to the Lord every morning and every evening burnt sacrifices and incense of sweet spices; they set in order the showbread on the table of pure gold and attend to the golden lampstand, that its lamps may be lighted every evening. For we keep the charge of the Lord our God, but you have forsaken Him.

los cuales queman al SEÑOR los holocaustos cada mañana y cada tarde, y el incienso aromático; y ponen los panes sobre la mesa limpia, y el candelero de oro con sus lámparas para que ardan cada tarde; porque nosotros guardamos la ordenanza del SEÑOR nuestro Dios; mas vosotros le habéis dejado.

12 B ehold, God Himself is with us at our head, and His priests with their battle trumpets to sound an alarm against you. O Israelites, fight not against the Lord, the God of your fathers, for you cannot prosper.

Y he aquí Dios está con nosotros por capitán, y sus sacerdotes con las trompetas para que suenen alarma contra vosotros. Oh hijos de Israel, no peleéis contra el SEÑOR Dios de vuestros padres, porque no os sucederá bien.

13 B ut Jeroboam caused an ambushment to come around them from behind, so his troops were before Judah and the ambush behind.

Pero Jeroboam hizo girar una emboscada para venir a ellos por la espalda; y estando así delante de ellos, la emboscada estaba a espaldas de Judá.

14 W hen Judah looked, behold, the battle was before and behind; and they cried to the Lord, and the priests blew the trumpets.

Entonces cuando miró Judá, he aquí que tenía batalla por delante y a las espaldas; por lo que clamaron al SEÑOR, y los sacerdotes tocaron las trompetas,

15 T hen the men of Judah gave a shout; and as they shouted, God smote Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah.

y los de Judá gritaron. Y cuando ellos gritaron, Dios desbarató a Jeroboam y a todo Israel delante de Abías y de Judá.

16 A nd the Israelites fled before Judah, and God delivered them into their hands.

Y huyeron los hijos de Israel delante de Judá, y Dios los entregó en sus manos.

17 A nd Abijah and his people slew them with a great slaughter, so there fell of Israel 500, 000 chosen men.

Y Abías y su pueblo hacían en ellos gran mortandad; y cayeron heridos de Israel quinientos mil hombres escogidos.

18 T hus the Israelites were brought low at that time, and the people of Judah prevailed because they relied upon the Lord, the God of their fathers.

Así fueron humillados los hijos de Israel en aquel tiempo; mas los hijos de Judá se fortificaron, porque se apoyaban en el SEÑOR Dios de sus padres.

19 A nd Abijah pursued Jeroboam and took some cities from him, Bethel, Jeshanah, and Ephraim (Ephron), with their towns.

Y siguió Abías a Jeroboam, y le tomó algunas ciudades, a Bet-el con sus aldeas, a Jesana con sus aldeas, y a Efrón con sus aldeas.

20 J eroboam did not recover strength again in the days of Abijah. And the Lord smote him and he died.

¶ Y nunca más tuvo Jeroboam poderío en los días de Abías; y le hirió el SEÑOR, y murió.

21 B ut Abijah became mighty. He married fourteen wives and had twenty-two sons and sixteen daughters.

Pero se fortificó Abías; y tomó catorce mujeres, y engendró veintidós hijos, y dieciséis hijas.

22 A nd the rest of the acts of Abijah, his ways and his sayings, are written in the story of the prophet Iddo.

Los demás hechos de Abías, sus caminos, y sus palabras, están escritos en la historia de Iddo profeta.
