1 I n the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam began Abijah to reign over Judah.

A los dieciocho años del rey Jeroboam, reinó Abías sobre Judá.

2 H e reigned three years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Michaiah, the daughter of Uriel of Gibeah. And there was war between Abijah and Jeroboam.

Y reinó tres años en Jerusalén. El nombre de su madre fue Micaías hija de Uriel de Gabaa. Y hubo guerra entre Abías y Jeroboam.

3 A nd Abijah began the war with an army of men of war, four hundred thousand chosen men; and Jeroboam set the battle in array against him with eight hundred thousand chosen men, mighty men of valour.

Entonces ordenó Abías batalla con el ejército de los valerosos en la guerra, cuatrocientos mil hombres escogidos; y Jeroboam ordenó batalla contra él con ochocientos mil hombres escogidos, fuertes y valerosos.

4 A nd Abijah stood up on the top of mount Zemaraim, which is in mount Ephraim, and said, Hear me, Jeroboam, and all Israel!

Y se levantó Abías sobre el monte de Zemaraim, que es en los montes de Efraín, y dijo: Oídme, Jeroboam y todo Israel.

5 O ught ye not to know that Jehovah the God of Israel gave the kingdom over Israel to David for ever, to him and to his sons a covenant of salt?

¿No sabéis vosotros, que el SEÑOR Dios de Israel dio el reino a David sobre Israel para siempre, a él y a sus hijos en alianza de sal?

6 B ut Jeroboam the son of Nebat, the servant of Solomon the son of David, rose up and rebelled against his lord.

Pero Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, siervo de Salomón hijo de David, se levantó y se rebeló contra su señor;

7 A nd vain men, sons of Belial, gathered to him and strengthened themselves against Rehoboam the son of Solomon, and Rehoboam was young and faint-hearted, and did not shew himself strong against them.

y que se allegaron a él hombres vanos, hijos de Belial, y pudieron más que Roboam hijo de Salomón, porque Roboam era joven y tierno de corazón, y no se defendió de ellos.

8 A nd now ye think to shew yourselves strong against the kingdom of Jehovah in the hand of the sons of David; and ye are a great multitude, and ye have with you the golden calves that Jeroboam made you for gods.

Y ahora vosotros consultáis para fortificaros contra el reino del SEÑOR que está en mano de los hijos de David; porque sois muchos, y tenéis con vosotros los becerros de oro que Jeroboam os hizo por dioses.

9 H ave ye not cast out the priests of Jehovah, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and made you priests as the peoples of the lands? whoever comes to consecrate himself with a young bullock and seven rams, he becomes a priest of what is not God.

¿No echasteis vosotros a los sacerdotes del SEÑOR, a los hijos de Aarón, y a los levitas, y os habéis hecho sacerdotes a la manera de los pueblos de otras tierras, para que cualquiera venga a consagrarse con un becerro y siete carneros, y así sea sacerdote de los que no son dioses?

10 B ut as for us, Jehovah is our God, and we have not forsaken him; and the priests that serve Jehovah are the sons of Aaron, and the Levites are at their work:

Mas en cuanto a nosotros, el SEÑOR es nuestro Dios, y no le hemos dejado; y los sacerdotes que ministran al SEÑOR son los hijos de Aarón, y los levitas son los que están en la obra;

11 a nd they burn to Jehovah every morning and every evening burnt-offerings and sweet incense; the loaves also are set in order upon the pure table; and the candlestick of gold with its lamps to burn every evening: for we keep the charge of Jehovah our God; but ye have forsaken him.

los cuales queman al SEÑOR los holocaustos cada mañana y cada tarde, y el incienso aromático; y ponen los panes sobre la mesa limpia, y el candelero de oro con sus lámparas para que ardan cada tarde; porque nosotros guardamos la ordenanza del SEÑOR nuestro Dios; mas vosotros le habéis dejado.

12 A nd behold, we have God with us at our head, and his priests, and the loud-sounding trumpets to sound an alarm against you. Children of Israel, do not fight with Jehovah the God of your fathers; for ye shall not prosper.

Y he aquí Dios está con nosotros por capitán, y sus sacerdotes con las trompetas para que suenen alarma contra vosotros. Oh hijos de Israel, no peleéis contra el SEÑOR Dios de vuestros padres, porque no os sucederá bien.

13 B ut Jeroboam caused an ambush to come about behind them; and they were before Judah, and the ambush behind them.

Pero Jeroboam hizo girar una emboscada para venir a ellos por la espalda; y estando así delante de ellos, la emboscada estaba a espaldas de Judá.

14 A nd Judah looked back, and behold, they had the battle in front and behind; and they cried to Jehovah, and the priests sounded with the trumpets.

Entonces cuando miró Judá, he aquí que tenía batalla por delante y a las espaldas; por lo que clamaron al SEÑOR, y los sacerdotes tocaron las trompetas,

15 A nd the men of Judah gave a shout; and as the men of Judah shouted, it came to pass that God smote Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah.

y los de Judá gritaron. Y cuando ellos gritaron, Dios desbarató a Jeroboam y a todo Israel delante de Abías y de Judá.

16 A nd the children of Israel fled before Judah; and God delivered them into their hand.

Y huyeron los hijos de Israel delante de Judá, y Dios los entregó en sus manos.

17 A nd Abijah and his people slew them with a great slaughter; and there fell down slain of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men.

Y Abías y su pueblo hacían en ellos gran mortandad; y cayeron heridos de Israel quinientos mil hombres escogidos.

18 A nd the children of Israel were humbled at that time, and the children of Judah were strengthened, because they relied upon Jehovah the God of their fathers.

Así fueron humillados los hijos de Israel en aquel tiempo; mas los hijos de Judá se fortificaron, porque se apoyaban en el SEÑOR Dios de sus padres.

19 A nd Abijah pursued after Jeroboam, and took cities from him: Bethel with its dependent villages, and Jeshanah with its dependent villages, and Ephron with its dependent villages.

Y siguió Abías a Jeroboam, y le tomó algunas ciudades, a Bet-el con sus aldeas, a Jesana con sus aldeas, y a Efrón con sus aldeas.

20 A nd Jeroboam did not recover strength again in the days of Abijah; and Jehovah smote him, and he died.

¶ Y nunca más tuvo Jeroboam poderío en los días de Abías; y le hirió el SEÑOR, y murió.

21 B ut Abijah strengthened himself, and took fourteen wives, and begot twenty-two sons and sixteen daughters.

Pero se fortificó Abías; y tomó catorce mujeres, y engendró veintidós hijos, y dieciséis hijas.

22 A nd the rest of the acts of Abijah, and his ways and his sayings, are written in the treatise of the prophet Iddo.

Los demás hechos de Abías, sus caminos, y sus palabras, están escritos en la historia de Iddo profeta.
