1 A nd it came to pass in those days, when there was no king in Israel, that a certain Levite, sojourning on the further side of mount Ephraim, took him a concubine out of Bethlehem-Judah.

¶ En aquellos días, cuando no había rey en Israel, hubo un levita que moraba como peregrino en los lados del monte de Efraín, el cual se había tomado mujer concubina de Belén de Judá.

2 A nd his concubine played the whore against him, and went away from him to her father's house to Bethlehem-Judah, and was there some time,—four months.

Y su concubina adulteró contra él, y se fue de él a casa de su padre, a Belén de Judá, y estuvo allá por tiempo de cuatro meses.

3 A nd her husband rose up and went after her, to speak kindly to her, to bring her again; and his servant was with him, and a couple of asses. And she brought him into her father's house; and when the father of the damsel saw him he rejoiced to meet him.

Y se levantó su marido, y la siguió, para hablarle amorosamente y hacerla volver, llevando consigo un criado suyo y un par de asnos; y ella le hizo entrar en la casa de su padre.

4 A nd his father-in-law, the damsel's father, retained him, and he abode with him three days; and they ate and drank, and lodged there.

Y viéndole el padre de la joven, le salió a recibir gozoso; y le detuvo su suegro, el padre de la joven, y se quedó en su casa tres días, comiendo y bebiendo, y morando allí.

5 A nd it came to pass on the fourth day, that they arose early in the morning, and he rose up to depart; and the damsel's father said to his son-in-law, Refresh thy heart with a morsel of bread, and afterwards ye may go your way.

Y al cuarto día, cuando se levantaron de mañana, se levantó también el levita para irse, y el padre de la joven dijo a su yerno: Fortalezca tu corazón con un bocado de pan, y después os iréis.

6 A nd they sat down, and ate and drank, both of them together. And the damsel's father said to the man, Be content, I pray thee, and pass the night, and let thy heart be glad.

Y se sentaron ellos dos juntos, y comieron y bebieron. Y el padre de la joven dijo al varón: Yo te ruego que te quedes aquí esta noche, y se alegrará tu corazón.

7 A nd the man rose up to depart, but his father-in-law urged him, and he lodged there again.

Y levantándose el varón para irse, el suegro le constriñó a que volviera a pasar la noche allí.

8 A nd he arose early in the morning on the fifth day to depart; but the damsel's father said, Refresh thy heart, I pray thee. And they lingered until the afternoon, and they did eat both of them.

Y al quinto día levantándose de mañana para irse, le dijo el padre de la joven: Fortalezca ahora tu corazón. Y habiendo comido ambos juntos, se detuvieron hasta que ya declinaba el día.

9 A nd the man rose up to depart, he, and his concubine, and his servant; and his father-in-law, the damsel's father, said to him, Behold now, the day draws toward evening—I pray you stay all night; behold, the day is declining, lodge here, and let thy heart be merry; and to-morrow get you early on your way, that thou mayest go to thy tent.

Se levantó luego el varón para irse, él, y su concubina, y su criado. Entonces su suegro, el padre de la joven, le dijo: He aquí el día declina para anochecer, te ruego que os estéis aquí la noche; he aquí que el día se acaba, ten aquí la noche, para que se alegre tu corazón; y mañana os levantaréis temprano a vuestro camino, y llegarás a tus tiendas.

10 B ut the man would not tarry the night; and he rose up and departed, and came opposite to Jebus, that is, Jerusalem; and there were with him two asses saddled, and his concubine was with him.

Mas el varón no quiso quedarse allí la noche, sino que se levantó y partió, y llegó hasta enfrente de Jebús, que es Jerusalén, con su par de asnos aparejados, y con su concubina.

11 T hey were near Jebus, and the day was far spent; and the servant said to his master, Come, I pray thee, and let us turn aside into this city of the Jebusites, and lodge in it.

Y estando ya junto a Jebús, el día había declinado mucho; y dijo el criado a su señor: Ven ahora, y vámonos a esta ciudad de los jebuseos, para que tengamos en ella la noche.

12 B ut his master said to him, We will not turn aside into the city of a stranger, which is not of the children of Israel, but we will pass on to Gibeah.

Y su señor le respondió: No iremos a ninguna ciudad de extranjeros, que no sea de los hijos de Israel; antes pasaremos hasta Gabaa. Y dijo a su criado:

13 A nd he said to his servant, Come and let us draw near to one of these places, and lodge in Gibeah, or in Ramah.

Ven, lleguemos a uno de esos dos lugares, para tener la noche en Gabaa, o en Ramá.

14 A nd they passed on and went their way; and the sun went down upon them by Gibeah, which belongs to Benjamin.

Pasando, pues, caminaron, y se les puso el sol junto a Gabaa, que era de Benjamín.

15 A nd they turned aside thither, to go in, to lodge in Gibeah. And he went in, and sat down in the open place of the city; and there was no one that received him into his house to pass the night.

Y se apartaron del camino para entrar a tener allí la noche en Gabaa; y entrando, se sentaron en la plaza de la ciudad, porque no hubo quien los acogiera en casa para pasar la noche.

16 A nd behold, there came an old man from his work out of the field at even; and the man was of mount Ephraim, and he sojourned in Gibeah; but the men of the place were Benjaminites.

¶ Y he aquí un hombre viejo, que a la tarde venía del campo de trabajar; el cual era también del monte de Efraín, y moraba como peregrino en Gabaa, pero los moradores de aquel lugar eran hijos de Jemini (Benjamín).

17 A nd he lifted up his eyes, and saw the wayfaring man in the open place of the city; and the old man said, Whither goest thou? and whence comest thou?

Y alzando el viejo los ojos, vio a aquel viajante en la plaza de la ciudad, y le dijo: ¿A dónde vas, y de dónde vienes?

18 A nd he said to him, We are travelling from Bethlehem-Judah towards the further side of mount Ephraim; from thence am I; and I went to Bethlehem-Judah, and I have to do with the house of Jehovah; and there is no man that receives me into his house.

Y él respondió: Pasamos de Belén de Judá a los lados del monte de Efraín, de donde yo soy; y partí hasta Belén de Judá; y voy a la Casa del SEÑOR, y no hay quien me reciba en casa,

19 A nd we have both straw and provender for our asses; and I have bread and wine also for me, and for thy handmaid, and for the young man with thy servants: there is no lack of anything.

aunque nosotros tenemos paja y forraje para nuestros asnos, y también tenemos pan y vino para mí y para tu sierva, y para el criado que está con tu siervo; de nada tenemos falta.

20 T hen the old man said, Peace be with thee; only let all thy wants lie on me; but lodge not in the street.

Y el hombre viejo dijo: Paz sea contigo; tu necesidad toda sea solamente a mi cargo, con tal que no tengas la noche en la plaza.

21 A nd he brought him into his house, and gave the asses provender; and they washed their feet, and ate and drank.

Y metiéndolos en su casa, dio de comer a sus asnos; y lavaron sus pies, y comieron y bebieron.

22 T hey were making their hearts merry, when behold, the men of the city, sons of Belial, surrounded the house, beating at the door; and they spoke to the master of the house, the old man, saying, Bring forth the man that came into thy house, that we may know him.

¶ Y cuando estaban alegrando sus corazones, he aquí, que los hombres de aquella ciudad, que eran hombres hijos de Belial, cercaron la casa, y golpearon las puertas, diciendo al hombre viejo señor de la casa: Saca fuera el hombre que ha entrado en tu casa, para que le conozcamos.

23 A nd the man, the master of the house, went out to them, and said to them, No, my brethren, I pray you, do not wickedly; seeing that this man is come into my house, do not this villany.

Y saliendo a ellos el varón, el señor de la casa, les dijo: No, hermanos míos, os ruego que no cometáis este mal, pues que este hombre ha entrado en mi casa, no hagáis esta locura.

24 B ehold, my daughter, who is a virgin, and his concubine; let me bring them out, and humble ye them, and do to them as is good in your sight; but to this man do not so vile a thing.

He aquí mi hija virgen, y la concubina de él; yo os las sacaré ahora; humilladlas, y haced con ellas como os pareciere, mas con este hombre no cometáis esta locura tan infame.

25 B ut the men would not hearken to him; and the man took his concubine, and brought her forth to them; and they knew her, and abused her all the night until the morning; and let her go when the morning-dawn arose.

Mas aquellos hombres no le quisieron oír; por lo que tomando aquel hombre su concubina, se la sacó fuera; y ellos la conocieron, y abusaron de ella toda la noche hasta la mañana, y la dejaron cuando apuntaba el alba.

26 A nd the woman came at the dawning of the day, and fell down at the entrance of the man's house where her lord was, till it was light.

Y antes que fuera de día la mujer vino, y cayó delante de la puerta de la casa de aquel hombre donde su señor estaba, hasta que fue de día.

27 A nd her lord rose up in the morning, and opened the door of the house, and went out to go his way, and behold, there lay the woman his concubine at the entrance of the house, and her hands were upon the threshold.

Y levantándose de mañana su señor, abrió las puertas de la casa, y salió para ir su camino, y he aquí, la mujer su concubina estaba tendida delante de la puerta de la casa, con las manos sobre el umbral.

28 A nd he said to her, Up, and let us go; but no one answered. And he took her upon the ass; and the man rose up, and went to his place.

Y él le dijo: Levántate, y vámonos. Mas ella no respondió. Entonces la levantó el varón, y echándola sobre su asno, se levantó y se fue a su lugar.

29 A nd when he was come into his house, he took the knife, and laid hold on his concubine, and divided her, according to her bones, into twelve pieces, and sent her into all the borders of Israel.

Y al llegar a su casa, tomó un cuchillo, y echó mano de su concubina, y la despedazó con sus huesos en doce partes, y las envió por todos los términos de Israel.

30 A nd it came to pass that every one that saw it said, There was no such deed done nor seen from the day that the children of Israel came out of Egypt to this day. Think it over, advise, and speak.

Y todo el que lo veía, decía: Jamás se ha hecho ni visto tal cosa, desde el tiempo que los hijos de Israel subieron de la tierra de Egipto hasta hoy. Considerad esto, dad consejo, y hablad.
