1 T he words of Agur the son of Jakeh; the prophecy uttered by the man unto Ithiel, unto Ithiel and Ucal:

¶ Palabras de Agur, hijo de Jaqué: La profecía que dijo el varón a Itiel, a Itiel y a Ucal.

2 T ruly I am more stupid than any one; and I have not a man's intelligence.

Ciertamente más rudo soy yo que ninguno, ni tengo entendimiento de hombre.

3 I have neither learned wisdom, nor have I the knowledge of the Holy.

Yo ni aprendí sabiduría, ni conozco la teología.

4 W ho hath ascended up into the heavens, and descended? Who hath gathered the wind in his fists? Who hath bound the waters in a mantle? Who hath established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou knowest?

¿Quién subió al cielo, y descendió? ¿Quién encerró los vientos en sus puños? ¿Quién ató las aguas en un paño? ¿Quién afirmó todos los términos de la tierra? ¿Cuál es su nombre, y el nombre de su hijo, si sabes?

5 E very word of +God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.

Toda palabra de Dios es limpia; es escudo a los que en él esperan.

6 A dd thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.

No añadas a sus palabras, para que no te reprenda, y seas hallado mentiroso.

7 T wo things do I ask of thee; deny me not before I die:

¶ Dos cosas te he demandado; no me las niegues antes que muera:

8 R emove far from me vanity and lies; give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the bread of my daily need:

Vanidad y palabra mentirosa aparta de mí; no me des pobreza ni riquezas; manténme del pan de mi juicio;

9 l est I be full and deny, and say, Who is Jehovah? or lest I be poor and steal, and outrage the name of my God.

para que no me sacie, y te niegue, y diga, ¿Quién es el SEÑOR? O no sea que siendo pobre, hurte, y blasfeme el nombre de mi Dios.

10 S peak not too much about a servant to his master, lest he curse thee, and thou be held guilty.

¶ No acuses al siervo ante su señor, para que no te maldiga, y peques.

11 T here is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother;

Hay generación que maldice a su padre, y a su madre no bendice.

12 t here is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, yet are not washed from their filthiness;

Hay generación limpia en su opinión, y nunca se ha limpiado su inmundicia.

13 t here is a generation,—how lofty are their eyes, how their eyelids are lifted up!

Hay generación cuyos ojos son altivos, y cuyos párpados son alzados.

14 — a generation whose teeth are swords, and their jaw-teeth knives, to devour the afflicted from off the earth, and the needy from men.

Hay generación cuyos dientes son espadas, y sus muelas cuchillos, para devorar de la tierra a los pobres, y de entre los hombres a los menesterosos.

15 T he leech hath two daughters: Give, give. There are three never satisfied; four which say not, It is enough:

¶ La sanguijuela tiene dos hijas que se llaman, dame, dame. Tres cosas hay que nunca se sacian; aun la cuarta nunca dice, basta:

16 — Sheol, and the barren womb; the earth which is not filled with water, and the fire which saith not, It is enough.

El Seol, y la matriz estéril, la tierra que no se sacie de aguas, y el fuego que jamás dice: Basta.

17 T he eye that mocketh at a father, and despiseth to obey a mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it.

El ojo que escarnece a su padre, y menosprecia la enseñanza de la madre, los cuervos lo saquen del río, y lo devoren los hijos del águila.

18 T here are three too wonderful for me, and four that I know not:

¶ Tres cosas me son ocultas; aun tampoco sé la cuarta:

19 T he way of an eagle in the heavens, the way of a serpent upon a rock, the way of a ship in the midst of the sea, and the way of a man with a maid.

El rastro del águila en el aire; el rastro de la culebra sobre la peña; el rastro de la nave en medio del mar; y el rastro del hombre en la doncella.

20 S uch is the way of an adulterous woman: she eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith, I have done no wickedness.

Tal es el rastro de la mujer adúltera, come, y limpia su boca, y dice: No he hecho maldad.

21 U nder three the earth is disquieted, and under four it cannot bear up:

Por tres cosas se alborota la tierra, y la cuarta no puede sufrir:

22 U nder a servant when he reigneth, and a churl when he is filled with meat;

Por el siervo cuando reinare; y por el loco cuando se saciare de pan;

23 u nder an odious when she is married, and a handmaid when she is heir to her mistress.

por la mujer aborrecida cuando se casare; y por la sierva cuando heredare a su señora.

24 T here are four little upon the earth, and they are exceeding wise:

¶ Cuatro cosas son de las más pequeñas de la tierra, y las mismas son más sabias que los sabios:

25 T he ants, a people not strong, yet they provide their food in the summer;

Las hormigas, pueblo no fuerte, y en el verano preparan su comida;

26 t he rock-badgers are but a feeble folk, yet they make their house in the cliff;

los conejos, pueblo no fuerte, y ponen su casa en la piedra;

27 t he locusts have no king, yet they go forth all of them by bands;

las langostas, no tienen rey, y salen todas acuadrilladas;

28 t hou takest hold of the lizard with the hands, yet is she in kings' palaces.

la araña, ase con las manos, y está en palacios de rey.

29 T here are three which have a stately step, and four are comely in going:

¶ Tres cosas hay de hermoso andar, y la cuarta pasea muy bien:

30 T he lion, mighty among beasts, which turneth not away for any;

El león, fuerte entre todos los animales, que no vuelve atrás por nadie;

31 a girt in the loins; or the he-goat; and a king, against whom none can rise up.

el lebrel ceñido de lomos; asimismo el macho cabrío; y el rey contra el cual ninguno se levanta.

32 I f thou hast done foolishly in lifting up thyself, or if thou hast thought evil, the hand upon thy mouth.

Si caíste, fue porque te enalteciste; y si mal pensaste, pon el dedo sobre la boca.

33 F or the pressing of milk bringeth forth butter, and the pressing of the nose bringeth forth blood; and the pressing of anger bringeth forth strife.

Ciertamente el que exprime la leche, sacará manteca; y el que recio se suena las narices, sacará sangre; y el que provoca la ira, causará contienda.
