1 A nd now, Israel, hearken to the statutes and to the ordinances which I teach you, to do, that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which Jehovah the God of your fathers giveth you.

¶ Ahora pues, oh Israel, oye los estatutos y derechos que yo os enseño, haciendo los cuales viviréis, y entraréis, y heredaréis la tierra que el SEÑOR el Dios de vuestros padres os da.

2 Y e shall not add to the word which I command you, neither shall ye take from it, that ye may keep the commandments of Jehovah your God which I command you.

No añadiréis a la palabra que yo os mando, ni disminuiréis de ella, para que guardéis los mandamientos del SEÑOR vuestro Dios que yo os ordene.

3 Y our eyes have seen what Jehovah did because of Baal-Peor; for all the men that followed Baal-Peor, Jehovah thy God hath destroyed them from among you;

Vuestros ojos vieron lo que hizo el SEÑOR con motivo de Baal-peor; que a todo hombre que fue en pos de Baal-peor destruyó el SEÑOR tu Dios de en medio de ti.

4 b ut ye that did cleave to Jehovah your God are alive every one of you this day.

Mas vosotros que os acercasteis al SEÑOR vuestro Dios, todos estáis vivos hoy.

5 S ee, I have taught you statutes and ordinances, even as Jehovah my God commanded me, that ye may do so in the land into which ye enter to possess it.

Mirad, yo os he enseñado estatutos y derechos, como el SEÑOR mi Dios me mandó, para que hagáis así en medio de la tierra en la cual entráis para poseerla.

6 A nd ye shall keep and do them; for that will be your wisdom and your understanding before the eyes of the peoples that shall hear all these statutes, and say, Verily this great nation is a wise and understanding people.

Guardadlos, pues, y ponedlos por obra; porque ésta es vuestra sabiduría y vuestra inteligencia en ojos de los pueblos, los cuales oirán todos estos estatutos, y dirán: Ciertamente esta nación grande es un pueblo sabio y entendido.

7 F or what great nation is there that hath God near to them as Jehovah our God is in everything we call upon him for?

Porque ¿qué nación grande hay que tenga a Dios cercano de sí, como lo está el SEÑOR nuestro Dios en todo cuanto le pedimos?

8 A nd what great nation is there that hath righteous statutes and ordinances, as all this law which I set before you this day?

Y ¿qué nación grande hay que tenga estatutos y derechos justos, como es toda esta ley que yo pongo hoy delante de vosotros?

9 O nly take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things that thine eyes have seen (and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life; but thou shalt make them known to thy sons and to thy sons' sons),

Por tanto, guárdate, y guarda tu alma con diligencia, que no te olvides de las cosas que tus ojos han visto, ni se aparten de tu corazón todos los días de tu vida; y las enseñarás a tus hijos, y a los hijos de tus hijos.

10 t he day that thou stoodest before Jehovah thy God in Horeb, when Jehovah said to me, Gather me the people together, that I may cause them to hear my words, that they may learn them, and fear me all the days that they live upon the earth, and teach them to their children.

El día que estuviste delante del SEÑOR tu Dios en Horeb, cuando el SEÑOR me dijo: Júntame el pueblo, para que yo les haga oír mis palabras, las cuales aprenderán, para temerme todos los días que vivieren sobre la tierra; y las enseñarán a sus hijos.

11 A nd ye came near and stood under the mountain; and the mountain burned with fire to the heart of heaven, with darkness, clouds, and obscurity.

Y os acercasteis, y os pusisteis al pie del monte; y el monte ardía en fuego hasta en medio de los cielos con tinieblas, nube, y oscuridad.

12 A nd Jehovah spoke to you from the midst of the fire: ye heard the voice of the words, but ye saw no form; only a voice.

Y habló el SEÑOR con vosotros de en medio del fuego; oísteis la voz de sus palabras, mas a excepción de oír la voz, ninguna figura visteis.

13 A nd he declared to you his covenant, which he commanded you to do, the ten words; and he wrote them on two tables of stone.

Y él os anunció su pacto, el cual os mandó poner por obra, las diez palabras; y las escribió en dos tablas de piedra.

14 A nd Jehovah commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and ordinances, that ye might do them in the land whither ye are passing over to possess it.

A mí también me mandó el SEÑOR en aquel tiempo, que os enseñara los estatutos y derechos, para que los pusierais por obra en la tierra a la cual pasáis para poseerla.

15 A nd take great heed to your souls (for ye saw no form on the day that Jehovah spoke to you in Horeb from the midst of the fire),

Guardad, pues, mucho vuestras almas; porque ninguna figura visteis el día que el SEÑOR habló con vosotros de en medio del fuego;

16 l est ye corrupt yourselves, and make you a graven image, the form of any figure, the pattern of male or female,

para que no os corrompáis, y hagáis para vosotros escultura, imagen de alguna semejanza, figura de macho o de hembra;

17 t he pattern of any beast that is on the earth, the pattern of any winged fowl that flieth in the heaven,

figura de algún animal que sea en la tierra, figura de ave alguna alada que vuele por el aire,

18 t he pattern of anything that creepeth on the ground, the pattern of any fish that is in the waters under the earth;

figura de ningún animal que se vaya arrastrando por la tierra, figura de pez alguno que haya en el agua debajo de la tierra.

19 a nd lest thou lift up thine eyes to the heavens, and see the sun, and the moon, and the stars, the whole host of heaven, and be drawn away and bow down to them and serve them, which Jehovah thy God hath assigned unto all peoples under the whole heaven.

Y para que no alces tus ojos al cielo, y viendo el sol y la luna y las estrellas, y todo el ejército del cielo, seas impulsado, y te inclines a ellos, y les sirvas; porque el SEÑOR tu Dios los ha concedido a todos los pueblos debajo de todos los cielos.

20 B ut you hath Jehovah taken, and hath brought you forth out of the iron furnace, out of Egypt, that ye might be to him a people of inheritance, as it is this day.

Pero a vosotros el SEÑOR os tomó, y os ha sacado del horno de hierro, de Egipto, para que le seáis por pueblo de su heredad como parece en este día.

21 A nd Jehovah was angry with me on your account, and swore that I should not go over the Jordan, and that I should not enter in to that good land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee an inheritance;

Y el SEÑOR se enojó contra mí sobre vuestros negocios, y juró que yo no pasaría el Jordán, ni entraría en la buena tierra, que el SEÑOR tu Dios te da por heredad.

22 f or I shall die in this land, I shall not go over the Jordan; but ye shall go over, and possess this good land.

Por lo cual yo muero en esta tierra; y no paso el Jordán; mas vosotros pasaréis, y heredaréis aquella buena tierra.

23 T ake heed to yourselves lest ye forget the covenant of Jehovah your God, which he made with you, and make yourselves a graven image, the form of anything which Jehovah thy God hath forbidden thee.

Guardaos, no os olvidéis del pacto del SEÑOR vuestro Dios, que él estableció con vosotros, y os hagáis escultura o imagen de cualquier cosa, como el SEÑOR tu Dios te ha vedado.

24 F or Jehovah thy God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.

Porque el SEÑOR tu Dios es fuego consumidor, Dios celoso.

25 W hen thou begettest sons, and sons' sons, and ye have remained long in the land, and shall corrupt yourselves, and make a graven image, the form of anything, and do evil in the sight of Jehovah thy God, to provoke him to anger,

Cuando hubiereis engendrado hijos y nietos, y hubiereis permanecido mucho tiempo en la tierra, y os corrompiereis, e hiciereis escultura o imagen de cualquier cosa, e hiciereis mal ante los ojos del SEÑOR vuestro Dios, para enojarlo;

26 I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that ye shall soon utterly perish from off the land whereunto ye pass over the Jordan to possess it: ye shall not prolong your days on it, but shall be utterly destroyed.

yo pongo hoy por testigos al cielo y a la tierra, que presto pereceréis totalmente de la tierra a la cual pasáis el Jordán para heredarla; no estaréis en ella largos días sin que seáis destruidos.

27 A nd Jehovah will scatter you among the peoples, and ye shall be left a small company among the nations to which Jehovah will lead you.

Y el SEÑOR os esparcirá entre los pueblos, y quedaréis pocos hombres en número entre los gentiles a los cuales os llevará el SEÑOR.

28 A nd ye shall there serve gods, the work of men's hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.

Y serviréis allí a dioses hechos por manos de hombres, de madera y de piedra, que no ven, ni oyen, ni comen, ni huelen.

29 A nd from thence ye shall seek Jehovah thy God, and thou shalt find him, if thou shalt seek him with thy whole heart and with thy whole soul.

Mas si desde allí buscares al SEÑOR tu Dios, lo hallarás; si lo buscares de todo tu corazón y de toda tu alma.

30 I n thy tribulation, and when all these things shall come upon thee, at the end of days, thou shalt return to Jehovah thy God, and shalt hearken to his voice,

Cuando estuviereis en angustia, y te alcanzaren todas estas cosas, si en los postreros días te volvieres al SEÑOR tu Dios, y oyeres su voz;

31 — for Jehovah thy God is a merciful God,—he will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he swore unto them.

(porque Dios misericordioso es el SEÑOR tu Dios); no te dejará, ni te destruirá, ni se olvidará del pacto de tus padres que él les juró.

32 F or ask now of the days that are past, which were before thee, since the day that God created man on the earth, and from one end of the heavens to the other end of the heavens, whether there hath been anything as this great thing is, or if anything hath been heard like it?

Pregunta, pues, ahora de los tiempos pasados, que han sido antes de ti, desde el día que creó Dios al hombre sobre la tierra, y pregunta desde un extremo del cielo al otro, si se ha hecho cosa semejante a esta gran cosa, o se haya oído otra como ella.

33 D id people hear the voice of God speaking from the midst of the fire, as thou hast heard, and live?

¿Ha oído pueblo alguno la voz de Dios, que hablara de en medio del fuego, como tú la has oído, y vivido?

34 O r hath God essayed to come to take him a nation from the midst of a nation, by trials, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a powerful hand, and by a stretched-out arm, and by great terrors, according to all that Jehovah your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?

¿O ha Dios probado a venir a tomar para sí nación de en medio de otra nación, con pruebas, con señales, con milagros, y con guerra, y mano fuerte, y brazo extendido, y grandes espantos, según todas las cosas que hizo con vosotros el SEÑOR vuestro Dios en Egipto ante tus ojos?

35 U nto thee it was shewn, that thou mightest know that Jehovah, he is God—there is none other besides him.

A ti te fue mostrado, para que supieras que el SEÑOR es Dios; no hay nadie más fuera de él.

36 F rom the heavens he made thee hear his voice, that he might instruct thee; and on the earth he shewed thee his great fire; and thou heardest his words from the midst of the fire.

De los cielos te hizo oír su voz, para enseñarte; y sobre la tierra te mostró su gran fuego, y has oído sus palabras de en medio del fuego.

37 A nd because he loved thy fathers, and chose their seed after them, he brought thee out with his countenance, with his great power, out of Egypt,

Y por cuanto él amó a tus padres, escogió su simiente después de ellos, y te sacó delante de sí de Egipto con su gran poder;

38 t o dispossess nations from before thee greater and mightier than thou art, to bring thee in, to give thee their land for an inheritance, as it is this day.

para echar de delante de ti gentiles grandes y más fuertes que tú, y para introducirte, y darte su tierra por heredad, como sucede hoy.

39 T hou shalt know therefore this day, and consider it in thy heart, that Jehovah, he is God in the heavens above, and on the earth beneath: none else.

Aprende pues, hoy, y reflexiona en tu corazón que el SEÑOR es el único Dios arriba en el cielo, y abajo sobre la tierra; no hay otro.

40 A nd thou shalt keep his statutes, and his commandments, which I command thee this day, that it may be well with thee and with thy sons after thee, and that thou mayest prolong thy days on the land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee, for ever.

Y guarda sus estatutos y sus mandamientos, que yo te mando hoy, para que te vaya bien a ti y a tus hijos después de ti, y tengas muchos días sobre la tierra que el SEÑOR tu Dios te da para siempre.

41 T hen Moses separated three cities on this side the Jordan toward the sun-rising,

¶ Entonces apartó Moisés tres ciudades de este lado del Jordán al nacimiento del sol,

42 t hat the manslayer might flee thither, who should kill his neighbour unawares, and hated him not previously, that fleeing to one of these cities, he might live:

para que huyera allí el homicida que matara a su prójimo por yerro, sin haber tenido enemistad con él desde ayer ni desde anteayer; y que huyendo a una de estas ciudades viviera:

43 B ezer in the wilderness, in the plateau, of the Reubenites, and Ramoth in Gilead, of the Gadites, and Golan in Bashan, of the Manassites.

A Beser en el desierto, en tierra de la llanura, de los rubenitas; y a Ramot en Galaad, de los gaditas; y a Golán en Basán, de los de Manasés.

44 A nd this is the law which Moses set before the children of Israel:

Esta, pues, es la ley que Moisés propuso delante de los hijos de Israel.

45 t hese are the testimonies, and the statutes, and the ordinances that Moses declared to the children of Israel, when they came out of Egypt,

Estos son los testimonios, y los estatutos, y los derechos, que Moisés dijo a los hijos de Israel, cuando salieron de Egipto;

46 o n this side the Jordan, in the valley opposite to Beth-Peor, in the land of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who dwelt in Heshbon, whom Moses and the children of Israel smote when they came out of Egypt;

de este lado del Jordán, en el valle delante de Bet-peor, en la tierra de Sehón rey de los amorreos, que habitaba en Hesbón, al cual hirió Moisés y los hijos de Israel, cuando salieron de Egipto;

47 a nd they took possession of his land, and the land of Og the king of Bashan, two kings of the Amorites, who were on this side the Jordan, toward the sun-rising;

y poseyeron su tierra, y la tierra de Og rey de Basán; dos reyes de los amorreos que estaban a este lado del Jordán, al nacimiento del sol.

48 f rom Aroer, which is on the bank of the river Arnon, as far as mount Sion, which is Hermon,

Desde Aroer, que está junto a la ribera del arroyo de Arnón, hasta el monte de Sión, que es Hermón;

49 a nd all the plain on this side the Jordan, eastward, and as far as the sea of the plain, under the slopes of Pisgah.

y toda la llanura de este lado del Jordán, al oriente, hasta el mar del llano, las vertientes de las aguas abajo del Pisga.
