1 B e not thou envious of evil men, neither desire to be with them;

¶ No tengas envidia de los hombres malos, ni desees estar con ellos;

2 f or their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief.

porque su corazón piensa en robar, y maldad hablan sus labios.

3 T hrough wisdom is a house built, and by understanding it is established;

¶ Con sabiduría se edificará la casa, y con inteligencia se afirmará;

4 a nd by knowledge are the chambers filled with all precious and pleasant substance.

y con ciencia se llenarán las cámaras de todas las riquezas preciosas y hermosas.

5 A wise man is strong, and a man of knowledge increaseth strength.

El hombre sabio es fuerte; y el hombre entendido es valiente de fuerza.

6 F or with good advice shalt thou make thy war; and in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.

Porque con sabios consejos harás la guerra; y la salvación está en la multitud de consejeros.

7 W isdom is too high for a fool: he will not open his mouth in the gate.

¶ Alta está para el loco la sabiduría; en la puerta no abrirá él su boca.

8 H e that deviseth to do evil shall be called a master of intrigues.

Al que piensa mal hacer le llamarán hombre de malos pensamientos.

9 T he purpose of folly is sin, and the scorner is an abomination to men.

El pensamiento del loco es pecado; y abominación a los hombres el burlador.

10 t hou losest courage in the day of trouble, thy strength is small.

¶ Si fueres flojo en el día de tribulación, tu fuerza será reducida.

11 D eliver them that are taken forth unto death, and withdraw not from them that stagger to slaughter.

¶ Si dejares de librar los que son tomados para la muerte, y los que son llevados al degolladero;

12 I f thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not, will not he that weigheth the hearts consider it? And he that preserveth thy soul, he knoweth it; and he rendereth to man according to his work.

si dijeres: Ciertamente no lo supimos; ¿no lo entenderá el que pesa los corazones? El que mira por tu alma, él lo conocerá, y dará al hombre según sus obras.

13 E at honey, my son, for it is good; and a honeycomb is sweet to thy taste:

¶ Come, hijo mío, de la miel, porque es buena, y del panal dulce a tu paladar;

14 s o consider wisdom for thy soul; if thou hast found it, there shall be a result, and thine expectation shall not be cut off.

tal será el conocimiento de la sabiduría a tu alma, si la hallares; y al fin tu esperanza no será cortada.

15 L ay not wait, O wicked, against the dwelling of the righteous; lay not waste his resting-place.

¶ Oh impío, no aceches la tienda del justo, no saquees su cámara;

16 F or the righteous falleth seven times, and riseth up again; but the wicked stumble into disaster.

porque siete veces cae el justo, y vuelve a levantarse; mas los impíos caerán en el mal.

17 R ejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thy heart be glad when he stumbleth;

¶ Cuando cayere tu enemigo, no te regocijes; y cuando tropezare, no se alegre tu corazón;

18 l est Jehovah see it, and it be evil in his sight, and he turn away his anger from him.

para que el SEÑOR no lo mire, y le desagrade, y aparte de sobre él su enojo.

19 F ret not thyself because of evil-doers, be not envious of the wicked:

¶ No te entremetas con los malignos, ni tengas envidia de los impíos;

20 f or there shall be no future to the evil; the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

porque para el malo no habrá buen fin, y la lámpara de los impíos será apagada.

21 M y son, fear Jehovah and the king: meddle not with them that are given to change.

¶ Teme al SEÑOR, hijo mío, y al rey; no te entremetas con los veleidosos;

22 F or their calamity shall rise suddenly; and who knoweth the ruin of them both?

porque su quebrantamiento se levantará de repente; y el quebrantamiento de ambos, ¿quién lo comprenderá?

23 T hese things also come from the wise. It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment.

¶ También estas cosas pertenecen a los sabios. Tener acepción de personas en el juicio no es bueno.

24 H e that saith unto the wicked, Thou art righteous, peoples shall curse him, nations shall abhor him;

El que dijere al malo: Justo eres, los pueblos lo maldecirán, y le detestarán las naciones;

25 b ut to them that rebuke shall be delight, and a good blessing cometh upon them.

mas los que lo reprenden, serán agradables, y sobre ellos vendrá bendición de bien.

26 H e kisseth the lips who giveth a right answer.

Besados serán los labios del que responde palabras rectas.

27 P repare thy work without, and put thy field in order, and afterwards build thy house.

¶ Prepara tus labores de afuera, y disponlas en tu heredad; y después edificarás tu casa.

28 B e not a witness against thy neighbour without cause; and wouldest thou deceive with thy lips?

¶ No seas testigo falso contra tu prójimo; y no lisonjees con tus labios.

29 S ay not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me, I will render to the man according to his work.

No digas: Como me hizo, así le haré; daré el pago al varón según su obra.

30 I went by the field of a sluggard, and by the vineyard of a man void of understanding;

¶ Pasé junto a la heredad del hombre perezoso, y junto a la viña del hombre falto de entendimiento;

31 a nd lo, it was all grown over with thistles, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and its stone wall was broken down.

y he aquí que por toda ella habían ya crecido espinas, ortigas habían ya cubierto su faz, y su cerca de piedra estaba ya destruida.

32 T hen I looked, I took it to heart; I saw, I received instruction:

Y yo miré, y lo puse en mi corazón; lo vi, y tomé castigo.

33 — A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest!

Un poco de sueño, cabeceando otro poco, poniendo mano sobre mano otro poco para dormir;

34 S o shall thy poverty come a roving plunderer, and thy penury as an armed man.

así vendrá como caminante tu necesidad, y tu pobreza como hombre de escudo.
