1 D on’t be envious of evil men; neither desire to be with them:

¶ No tengas envidia de los hombres malos, ni desees estar con ellos;

2 f or their hearts plot violence, and their lips talk about mischief.

porque su corazón piensa en robar, y maldad hablan sus labios.

3 T hrough wisdom a house is built; by understanding it is established;

¶ Con sabiduría se edificará la casa, y con inteligencia se afirmará;

4 b y knowledge the rooms are filled with all rare and beautiful treasure.

y con ciencia se llenarán las cámaras de todas las riquezas preciosas y hermosas.

5 A wise man has great power; and a knowledgeable man increases strength;

El hombre sabio es fuerte; y el hombre entendido es valiente de fuerza.

6 f or by wise guidance you wage your war; and victory is in many advisors.

Porque con sabios consejos harás la guerra; y la salvación está en la multitud de consejeros.

7 W isdom is too high for a fool: he doesn’t open his mouth in the gate.

¶ Alta está para el loco la sabiduría; en la puerta no abrirá él su boca.

8 O ne who plots to do evil will be called a schemer.

Al que piensa mal hacer le llamarán hombre de malos pensamientos.

9 T he schemes of folly are sin. The mocker is detested by men.

El pensamiento del loco es pecado; y abominación a los hombres el burlador.

10 I f you falter in the time of trouble, your strength is small.

¶ Si fueres flojo en el día de tribulación, tu fuerza será reducida.

11 R escue those who are being led away to death! Indeed, hold back those who are staggering to the slaughter!

¶ Si dejares de librar los que son tomados para la muerte, y los que son llevados al degolladero;

12 I f you say, “Behold, we didn’t know this”; doesn’t he who weighs the hearts consider it? He who keeps your soul, doesn’t he know it? Shall he not render to every man according to his work?

si dijeres: Ciertamente no lo supimos; ¿no lo entenderá el que pesa los corazones? El que mira por tu alma, él lo conocerá, y dará al hombre según sus obras.

13 M y son, eat honey, for it is good; the droppings of the honeycomb, which are sweet to your taste:

¶ Come, hijo mío, de la miel, porque es buena, y del panal dulce a tu paladar;

14 s o you shall know wisdom to be to your soul; if you have found it, then there will be a reward, your hope will not be cut off.

tal será el conocimiento de la sabiduría a tu alma, si la hallares; y al fin tu esperanza no será cortada.

15 D on’t lay in wait, wicked man, against the habitation of the righteous. Don’t destroy his resting place:

¶ Oh impío, no aceches la tienda del justo, no saquees su cámara;

16 f or a righteous man falls seven times, and rises up again; but the wicked are overthrown by calamity.

porque siete veces cae el justo, y vuelve a levantarse; mas los impíos caerán en el mal.

17 D on’t rejoice when your enemy falls. Don’t let your heart be glad when he is overthrown;

¶ Cuando cayere tu enemigo, no te regocijes; y cuando tropezare, no se alegre tu corazón;

18 l est Yahweh see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.

para que el SEÑOR no lo mire, y le desagrade, y aparte de sobre él su enojo.

19 D on’t fret yourself because of evildoers; neither be envious of the wicked:

¶ No te entremetas con los malignos, ni tengas envidia de los impíos;

20 f or there will be no reward to the evil man; and the lamp of the wicked shall be snuffed out.

porque para el malo no habrá buen fin, y la lámpara de los impíos será apagada.

21 M y son, fear Yahweh and the king. Don’t join those who are rebellious:

¶ Teme al SEÑOR, hijo mío, y al rey; no te entremetas con los veleidosos;

22 f or their calamity will rise suddenly; the destruction from them both—who knows?

porque su quebrantamiento se levantará de repente; y el quebrantamiento de ambos, ¿quién lo comprenderá?

23 T hese also are sayings of the wise. To show partiality in judgment is not good.

¶ También estas cosas pertenecen a los sabios. Tener acepción de personas en el juicio no es bueno.

24 H e who says to the wicked, “You are righteous”; peoples shall curse him, and nations shall abhor him—

El que dijere al malo: Justo eres, los pueblos lo maldecirán, y le detestarán las naciones;

25 b ut it will go well with those who convict the guilty, and a rich blessing will come on them.

mas los que lo reprenden, serán agradables, y sobre ellos vendrá bendición de bien.

26 A n honest answer is like a kiss on the lips.

Besados serán los labios del que responde palabras rectas.

27 P repare your work outside, and get your fields ready. Afterwards, build your house.

¶ Prepara tus labores de afuera, y disponlas en tu heredad; y después edificarás tu casa.

28 D on’t be a witness against your neighbor without cause. Don’t deceive with your lips.

¶ No seas testigo falso contra tu prójimo; y no lisonjees con tus labios.

29 D on’t say, “I will do to him as he has done to me; I will render to the man according to his work.”

No digas: Como me hizo, así le haré; daré el pago al varón según su obra.

30 I went by the field of the sluggard, by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;

¶ Pasé junto a la heredad del hombre perezoso, y junto a la viña del hombre falto de entendimiento;

31 B ehold, it was all grown over with thorns. Its surface was covered with nettles, and its stone wall was broken down.

y he aquí que por toda ella habían ya crecido espinas, ortigas habían ya cubierto su faz, y su cerca de piedra estaba ya destruida.

32 T hen I saw, and considered well. I saw, and received instruction:

Y yo miré, y lo puse en mi corazón; lo vi, y tomé castigo.

33 a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep;

Un poco de sueño, cabeceando otro poco, poniendo mano sobre mano otro poco para dormir;

34 s o your poverty will come as a robber, and your want as an armed man.

así vendrá como caminante tu necesidad, y tu pobreza como hombre de escudo.
