1 T he children of Israel, even the whole congregation, came into the wilderness of Zin in the first month. The people stayed in Kadesh. Miriam died there, and was buried there.

¶ Y llegaron los hijos de Israel, toda la congregación, al desierto de Zin, en el mes primero, y reposó el pueblo en Cades; y allí murió María, y allí fue sepultada.

2 T here was no water for the congregation; and they assembled themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.

Y no hubo agua para la congregación, se juntaron contra Moisés y Aarón.

3 T he people quarreled with Moses, and spoke, saying, “We wish that we had died when our brothers died before Yahweh!

Y riñó el pueblo con Moisés, y hablaron diciendo: ¡Mejor que nosotros hubiéramos muerto cuando perecieron nuestros hermanos delante del SEÑOR!

4 W hy have you brought Yahweh’s assembly into this wilderness, that we should die there, we and our animals?

Y ¿por qué hiciste venir la congregación del SEÑOR a este desierto, para que muramos aquí nosotros y nuestras bestias?

5 W hy have you made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in to this evil place? It is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink.”

¿Y por qué nos has hecho venir de Egipto, a este mal lugar? No es lugar de sementera, de higueras, de viñas, ni granadas; ni aun hay agua para beber.

6 M oses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly to the door of the Tent of Meeting, and fell on their faces. Yahweh’s glory appeared to them.

Y se fueron Moisés y Aarón de delante de la congregación a la puerta del tabernáculo del testimonio, y se postraron sobre sus rostros; y la gloria del SEÑOR apareció sobre ellos.

7 Y ahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

Y habló el SEÑOR a Moisés, diciendo:

8 “ Take the rod, and assemble the congregation, you, and Aaron your brother, and speak to the rock before their eyes, that it pour out its water. You shall bring water to them out of the rock; so you shall give the congregation and their livestock drink.”

Toma la vara y reúne la congregación, tú y Aarón tu hermano, y hablad a la peña en ojos de ellos; y ella dará su agua, y les sacarás aguas de la peña, y darás de beber a la congregación, y a sus bestias.

9 M oses took the rod from before Yahweh, as he commanded him.

Entonces Moisés tomó la vara de delante del SEÑOR, como él le mandó.

10 M oses and Aaron gathered the assembly together before the rock, and he said to them, “Hear now, you rebels! Shall we bring water out of this rock for you?”

Y juntaron Moisés y Aarón a la congregación delante de la peña, y les dijo: Oíd ahora, rebeldes; ¿os hemos de hacer salir aguas de esta peña?

11 M oses lifted up his hand, and struck the rock with his rod twice, and water came out abundantly. The congregation and their livestock drank.

Entonces alzó Moisés su mano, e hirió la peña con su vara dos veces; y salieron muchas aguas, y bebió la congregación, y sus bestias.

12 Y ahweh said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you didn’t believe in me, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them.”

Y el SEÑOR dijo a Moisés y a Aarón: Por cuanto no creísteis en mí, para santificarme en ojos de los hijos de Israel, por tanto, no meteréis esta congregación en la tierra que les he dado.

13 T hese are the waters of Meribah; because the children of Israel strove with Yahweh, and he was sanctified in them.

Estas son las aguas de Meriba (la rencilla), por las cuales riñeron los hijos de Israel con el SEÑOR, y él se santificó en ellos.

14 M oses sent messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom, saying: “Thus says your brother Israel: You know all the travail that has happened to us;

¶ Y envió Moisés embajadores al rey de Edom desde Cades, diciendo: Así dice Israel tu hermano: Tú has sabido todo el trabajo que nos ha venido;

15 h ow our fathers went down into Egypt, and we lived in Egypt a long time. The Egyptians mistreated us and our fathers.

cómo nuestros padres descendieron a Egipto, y estuvimos en Egipto largo tiempo, y los egipcios nos maltrataron, y a nuestros padres;

16 W hen we cried to Yahweh, he heard our voice, sent an angel, and brought us out of Egypt. Behold, we are in Kadesh, a city in the edge of your border.

y clamamos al SEÑOR, el cual oyó nuestra voz, y envió un ángel, y nos sacó de Egipto; y he aquí estamos en Cades, ciudad al extremo de tu término.

17 “ Please let us pass through your land. We will not pass through field or through vineyard, neither will we drink from the water of the wells. We will go along the king’s highway. We will not turn aside to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed your border.”

Te rogamos que pasemos por tu tierra; no pasaremos por labranza, ni por viña, ni beberemos agua de pozos; por el camino real iremos, sin apartarnos a diestra ni a siniestra, hasta que hayamos pasado tu término.

18 E dom said to him, “You shall not pass through me, lest I come out with the sword against you.”

Y Edom le respondió: No pasarás por mi país, de otra manera, saldré contra ti armado.

19 T he children of Israel said to him, “We will go up by the highway; and if we drink your water, I and my livestock, then I will give its price. Only let me, without doing anything else, pass through on my feet.”

Y los hijos de Israel dijeron: Por el camino seguido iremos; y si bebiéremos tus aguas yo y mis ganados, daré el precio de ellas; ciertamente sin hacer otra cosa, pasaré de seguida.

20 H e said, “You shall not pass through.” Edom came out against him with many people, and with a strong hand.

Y él respondió: No pasarás. Y salió Edom contra él con mucho pueblo, y mano fuerte.

21 T hus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border, so Israel turned away from him.

No quiso, pues, Edom dejar pasar a Israel por su término, y así se apartó Israel de él.

22 T hey traveled from Kadesh: and the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, came to Mount Hor.

¶ Y partidos de Cades los hijos de Israel, toda aquella congregación, vinieron al monte de Hor.

23 Y ahweh spoke to Moses and Aaron in Mount Hor, by the border of the land of Edom, saying,

Y el SEÑOR habló a Moisés y a Aarón en el monte de Hor, en los términos de la tierra de Edom, diciendo:

24 “ Aaron shall be gathered to his people; for he shall not enter into the land which I have given to the children of Israel, because you rebelled against my word at the waters of Meribah.

Aarón será reunido a su pueblo; pues no entrará en la tierra que yo di a los hijos de Israel, por cuanto fuisteis rebeldes a mi mandamiento en las aguas de Meriba.

25 T ake Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up to Mount Hor;

Toma a Aarón y a Eleazar su hijo, y hazlos subir al monte de Hor;

26 a nd strip Aaron of his garments, and put them on Eleazar his son. Aaron shall be taken, and shall die there.”

y haz desnudar a Aarón sus vestidos, y viste de ellos a Eleazar su hijo; porque Aarón será reunido a su pueblo, y allí morirá.

27 M oses did as Yahweh commanded. They went up into Mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation.

Y Moisés hizo como el SEÑOR le mandó; y subieron al monte de Hor a ojos de toda la congregación.

28 M oses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put them on Eleazar his son. Aaron died there on the top of the mountain, and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mountain.

Y Moisés hizo desnudar a Aarón de sus vestidos y los vistió a Eleazar su hijo; y Aarón murió allí en la cumbre del monte; y Moisés y Eleazar descendieron del monte.

29 W hen all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, they wept for Aaron thirty days, even all the house of Israel.

Y viendo toda la congregación que Aarón había muerto, le lloraron treinta días todas las familias de Israel.
