1 F or this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of God Most High, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him,

¶ Porque este Melquisedec, rey de Salem, sacerdote del Dios Altísimo, el cual salió a recibir a Abraham que volvía de la matanza de los reyes, y le bendijo,

2 t o whom also Abraham divided a tenth part of all (being first, by interpretation, king of righteousness, and then also king of Salem, which is king of peace;

al cual asimismo dio Abraham la décima parte de todo, primeramente él se interpreta Rey de justicia; y luego también Rey de Salem, que es, Rey de paz;

3 w ithout father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God), remains a priest continually.

sin padre, sin madre, sin linaje; que ni tiene principio de días, ni fin de vida, mas hecho semejante al Hijo de Dios, se queda Sacerdote eternalmente.

4 N ow consider how great this man was, to whom even Abraham, the patriarch, gave a tenth out of the best plunder.

Mirad, pues, cuán grande sea éste, al cual aun Abraham el patriarca haya dado la décima parte de los despojos.

5 T hey indeed of the sons of Levi who receive the priest’s office have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brothers, though these have come out of the body of Abraham,

Que ciertamente los que de los hijos de Leví toman el sacerdocio, tienen mandamiento de tomar del pueblo los diezmos según la Ley, es a saber, de sus hermanos aunque también ellos hayan salido de los lomos de Abraham.

6 b ut he whose genealogy is not counted from them has accepted tithes from Abraham, and has blessed him who has the promises.

Mas aquel cuya genealogía no es contada en ellos, tomó de Abraham los diezmos, y bendijo al que tenía las promesas.

7 B ut without any dispute the lesser is blessed by the greater.

Que sin contradicción alguna, lo que es menos es bendecido de lo que es más.

8 H ere people who die receive tithes, but there one receives tithes of whom it is testified that he lives.

Del mismo modo, aquí ciertamente los hombres mortales toman los diezmos; mas allí, aquel los tomó del cual está dado testimonio que vive;

9 W e can say that through Abraham even Levi, who receives tithes, has paid tithes,

y, (por decir, así) en Abraham pagó diezmos también el mismo Leví, que recibe los diezmos;

10 f or he was yet in the body of his father when Melchizedek met him.

porque aún Leví estaba en los lomos de su padre, cuando Melquisedec salió a recibirle.

11 N ow if there were perfection through the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people have received the law), what further need was there for another priest to arise after the order of Melchizedek, and not be called after the order of Aaron?

¶ Pues si la perfección era por el sacerdocio levítico (porque bajo él recibió el pueblo la Ley) ¿qué necesidad había aún de que se levantara otro sacerdote según el orden de Melquisedec, y que no fuera llamado según el orden de Aarón?

12 F or the priesthood being changed, there is of necessity a change made also in the law.

Pues traspasado el sacerdocio, necesario es que se haga también traspasamiento de la Ley.

13 F or he of whom these things are said belongs to another tribe, from which no one has officiated at the altar.

Porque aquel del cual esto se dice, de otra tribu es, de la cual nadie presidió el altar.

14 F or it is evident that our Lord has sprung out of Judah, about which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning priesthood.

Porque manifiesto es que el Señor nuestro nació de la tribu de Judá, de la cual nada habló Moisés tocante al sacerdocio.

15 T his is yet more abundantly evident, if after the likeness of Melchizedek there arises another priest,

Y aún más manifiesto es, si se levanta otro Sacerdote que sea semejante a Melquisedec;

16 w ho has been made, not after the law of a fleshly commandment, but after the power of an endless life:

el cual no es hecho conforme a la ley del mandamiento carnal, sino por virtud de vida indisoluble;

17 f or it is testified, “You are a priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek.”

porque el testimonio es de esta manera: Que tú eres Sacerdote para siempre, según el orden de Melquisedec.

18 F or there is an annulling of a foregoing commandment because of its weakness and uselessness

El mandamiento precedente, cierto queda abolido por su flaqueza e inutilidad;

19 ( for the law made nothing perfect), and a bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God.

porque nada perfeccionó la ley, sino la introducción de una mejor esperanza (por la cual nos acercamos a Dios.)

20 I nasmuch as he was not made priest without the taking of an oath

Y tanto más en cuanto no es sin juramento,

21 ( for they indeed have been made priests without an oath), but he with an oath by him that says of him, “The Lord swore and will not change his mind, ‘You are a priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek.’”

porque los otros ciertamente sin juramento fueron hechos sacerdotes; mas éste, con juramento por el que le dijo: Juró el Señor, y no se arrepentirá, que Tú eres sacerdote para siempre según el orden de Melquisedec.

22 B y so much, Jesus has become the collateral of a better covenant.

Tanto de mejor testamento es hecho prometedor Jesús.

23 M any, indeed, have been made priests, because they are hindered from continuing by death.

Y, los otros, cierto, fueron muchos sacerdotes en cuanto por la muerte no podían permanecer;

24 B ut he, because he lives forever, has his priesthood unchangeable.

mas éste, por cuanto permanece para siempre, tiene el sacerdocio intransferible;

25 T herefore he is also able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, seeing that he lives forever to make intercession for them.

por lo cual puede también salvar eternamente a los que por él se allegan a Dios, viviendo siempre para rogar por ellos.

26 F or such a high priest was fitting for us: holy, guiltless, undefiled, separated from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;

Porque tal Sumo Sacerdote nos convenía tener: Santo, inocente, limpio, apartado de los pecadores, y hecho más sublime que los cielos.

27 w ho doesn’t need, like those high priests, to offer up sacrifices daily, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. For he did this once for all, when he offered up himself.

Que no tiene necesidad cada día, como los otros sacerdotes, de ofrecer sacrificios primero por sus pecados, y luego por los del pueblo, porque esto lo hizo UNA VEZ ofreciéndose a sí mismo.

28 F or the law appoints men as high priests who have weakness, but the word of the oath which came after the law appoints a Son forever who has been perfected.

Porque la ley constituye sacerdotes a hombres débiles; mas la palabra del juramento después de la ley, al Hijo, hecho perfecto eternalmente.
