1 B en Hadad the king of Syria gathered all his army together; and there were thirty-two kings with him, with horses and chariots. He went up and besieged Samaria, and fought against it.

Entonces Ben-adad rey de Siria juntó a todo su ejército, y con él treinta y dos reyes, con caballos y carros: y subió, y puso cerco a Samaria, y la combatió.

2 H e sent messengers to Ahab king of Israel, into the city, and said to him, “Thus says Ben Hadad,

Y envió mensajeros a la ciudad a Acab rey de Israel, diciendo:

3 ‘ Your silver and your gold is mine. Your wives also and your children, even the best, are mine.’”

Así ha dicho Ben-adad: Tu plata y tu oro es mío, y tus mujeres y tus hijos hermosos son míos.

4 T he king of Israel answered, “It is according to your saying, my lord, O king. I am yours, and all that I have.”

Y el rey de Israel respondió, y dijo: Como tú dices, rey señor mío, yo soy tuyo, y todo lo que tengo.

5 T he messengers came again, and said, “Ben Hadad says, ‘I sent indeed to you, saying, “You shall deliver me your silver, and your gold, and your wives, and your children;

Y volviendo los mensajeros otra vez, dijeron: Así dijo Ben-adad: Yo te envié a decir: Tu plata y tu oro, y tus mujeres y tus hijos me darás.

6 b ut I will send my servants to you tomorrow about this time, and they will search your house, and the houses of your servants; whatever is pleasant in your eyes, they will put it in their hand, and take it away.”’”

Además mañana a estas horas enviaré yo a ti mis siervos, los cuales escudriñarán tu casa, y las casas de tus siervos; y tomarán con sus manos, y llevarán todo lo precioso que tuvieres.

7 T hen the king of Israel called all the elders of the land, and said, “Please notice how this man seeks mischief; for he sent to me for my wives, and for my children, and for my silver, and for my gold; and I didn’t deny him.”

Entonces el rey de Israel llamó a todos los ancianos de la tierra, y les dijo: Entended, y ved ahora cómo éste no busca sino mal; pues que ha enviado a mí por mis mujeres y mis hijos, y por mi plata y por mi oro; y yo no se lo he negado.

8 A ll the elders and all the people said to him, “Don’t listen, and don’t consent.”

Y todos los ancianos y todo el pueblo le respondieron: No le oigas, ni hagas lo que te pide.

9 T herefore he said to the messengers of Ben Hadad, “Tell my lord the king, ‘All that you sent for to your servant at the first I will do; but this thing I cannot do.’” The messengers departed, and brought him back the message.

Entonces él respondió a los embajadores de Ben-adad: Decid al rey mi señor: Haré todo lo que mandaste a tu siervo al principio; mas esto no lo puedo hacer. Y los embajadores fueron, y le dieron la respuesta.

10 B en Hadad sent to him, and said, “The gods do so to me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria will be enough for handfuls for all the people who follow me.”

Y Ben-adad tornó a enviarle a decir: Así me hagan los dioses, y así me añadan, que el polvo de Samaria no bastará a los puños de todo el pueblo que me sigue.

11 T he king of Israel answered, “Tell him, ‘Don’t let him who puts on his armor brag like he who takes it off.’”

Y el rey de Israel respondió, y dijo: Decidle, que no se alabe el que se ciñe, como el que ya se desciñe.

12 W hen Ben Hadad heard this message, as he was drinking, he and the kings, in the pavilions, he said to his servants, “Prepare to attack!” They prepared to attack the city.

Y cuando él oyó esta palabra, estando bebiendo con los reyes en las tiendas, dijo a sus siervos: Poned. Y ellos se pusieron contra la ciudad.

13 B ehold, a prophet came near to Ahab king of Israel, and said, “Yahweh says, ‘Have you seen all this great multitude? Behold, I will deliver it into your hand today; and you will know that I am Yahweh.’”

Y he aquí un profeta vino a Acab rey de Israel; y le dijo: Así ha dicho el SEÑOR: ¿Has visto esta gran multitud? He aquí yo te la entregaré hoy en tu mano, para que conozcas que yo soy el SEÑOR.

14 A hab said, “By whom?” He said, “Yahweh says, ‘By the young men of the princes of the provinces.’” Then he said, “Who shall begin the battle?” He answered, “You.”

Y respondió Acab: ¿Por mano de quién? Y él dijo: Así dijo el SEÑOR: Por mano de los criados de los príncipes de las provincias. Y él tornó a decir: ¿Quién comenzará la batalla? Y él respondió: Tú.

15 T hen he mustered the young men of the princes of the provinces, and they were two hundred and thirty-two. After them, he mustered all the people, even all the children of Israel, being seven thousand.

Entonces él reconoció a los criados de los príncipes de las provincias, los cuales fueron doscientos treinta y dos. Luego reconoció a todo el pueblo, todos los hijos de Israel, que fueron siete mil.

16 T hey went out at noon. But Ben Hadad was drinking himself drunk in the pavilions, he and the kings, the thirty-two kings who helped him.

Y salieron a mediodía. Y estaba Ben-adad bebiendo, borracho en las tiendas, él y los reyes, los treinta y dos reyes que habían venido en su ayuda.

17 T he young men of the princes of the provinces went out first; and Ben Hadad sent out, and they told him, saying, “Men are coming out from Samaria.”

Y los criados de los príncipes de las provincias salieron los primeros. Y Ben-adad había enviado a uno quien le dio aviso, diciendo: Varones han salido de Samaria.

18 H e said, “If they have come out for peace, take them alive; or if they have come out for war, take them alive.”

El entonces dijo: Si han salido por paz, tomadlos vivos; y si han salido para pelear, tomadlos vivos.

19 S o these went out of the city, the young men of the princes of the provinces, and the army which followed them.

Salieron, pues, de la ciudad los criados de los príncipes de las provincias, y en pos de ellos el ejército.

20 T hey each killed his man. The Syrians fled, and Israel pursued them. Ben Hadad the king of Syria escaped on a horse with horsemen.

E hirió cada uno al que venía contra sí; y huyeron los sirios, siguiéndolos los de Israel. Y el rey de Siria, Ben-adad, se escapó en un caballo con alguna gente de caballería.

21 T he king of Israel went out, and struck the horses and chariots, and killed the Syrians with a great slaughter.

Y salió el rey de Israel, e hirió la gente de a caballo, y los carros; y deshizo a los sirios con grande estrago.

22 T he prophet came near to the king of Israel, and said to him, “Go, strengthen yourself, and mark, and see what you do; for at the return of the year the king of Syria will come up against you.”

¶ Vino luego el profeta al rey de Israel y le dijo: Ve, fortalécete, y considera y mira lo que has de hacer; porque pasado el año, el rey de Siria ha de venir contra ti.

23 T he servants of the king of Syria said to him, “Their god is a god of the hills; therefore they were stronger than we. But let us fight against them in the plain, and surely we will be stronger than they.

Y los siervos del rey de Siria le dijeron: Sus dioses son dioses de los montes, por eso nos han vencido; mas si peleáremos con ellos en la llanura, se verá si no los vencemos.

24 D o this thing: take the kings away, every man out of his place, and put captains in their place.

Haz pues así: Saca a los reyes cada uno de su puesto, y pon capitanes en lugar de ellos.

25 M uster an army, like the army that you have lost, horse for horse, and chariot for chariot. We will fight against them in the plain, and surely we will be stronger than them.” He listened to their voice, and did so.

Y tú, fórmate otro ejército como el ejército que perdiste, caballos por caballos, y carros por carros; luego pelearemos con ellos en campo raso, y veremos si no los vencemos. Y él les dio oído, y lo hizo así.

26 A t the return of the year, Ben Hadad mustered the Syrians, and went up to Aphek, to fight against Israel.

Pasado el año, Ben-adad reconoció los sirios, y vino a Afec a pelear contra Israel.

27 T he children of Israel were mustered and given provisions, and went against them. The children of Israel encamped before them like two little flocks of young goats; but the Syrians filled the country.

Y los hijos de Israel fueron también reconocidos (contados), y tomando provisiones les fueron al encuentro; y acamparon los hijos de Israel delante de ellos, como dos rebañuelos de cabras; y los sirios llenaban la tierra.

28 A man of God came near and spoke to the king of Israel, and said, “Yahweh says, ‘Because the Syrians have said, “Yahweh is a god of the hills, but he is not a god of the valleys”; therefore I will deliver all this great multitude into your hand, and you shall know that I am Yahweh.’”

Vino entonces el varón de Dios al rey de Israel y le habló diciendo: Así dijo el SEÑOR: Por cuanto los sirios han dicho, el SEÑOR es Dios de los montes, no Dios de los valles, yo entregaré toda esta gran multitud en tu mano, para que conozcáis que yo soy el SEÑOR.

29 T hey encamped opposite each other for seven days. So it was, that in the seventh day the battle was joined; and the children of Israel killed one hundred thousand footmen of the Syrians in one day.

Siete días estuvieron acampados los unos delante de los otros, y al séptimo día se dio la batalla; y mataron los hijos de Israel de los sirios en un día cien mil hombres de a pie.

30 B ut the rest fled to Aphek, into the city; and the wall fell on twenty-seven thousand men who were left. Ben Hadad fled, and came into the city, into an inner room.

Los demás huyeron a Afec, a la ciudad; y el muro cayó sobre veintisiete mil hombres que habían quedado. También Ben-adad vino huyendo a la ciudad, y se escondía de cámara en cámara.

31 H is servants said to him, “See now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful kings. Please let us put sackcloth on our bodies, and ropes on our heads, and go out to the king of Israel. Maybe he will save your life.”

Entonces sus siervos le dijeron: He aquí, hemos oído de los reyes de Israel, que son reyes misericordiosos; pongamos pues ahora cilicio en nuestros lomos, y sogas en nuestras cabezas, y salgamos al rey de Israel; por ventura te dará la vida.

32 S o they put sackcloth on their bodies and ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, “Your servant Ben Hadad says, ‘Please let me live.’” He said, “Is he still alive? He is my brother.”

Ciñieron pues sus lomos de cilicio, y sogas en sus cabezas, y vinieron al rey de Israel, y le dijeron: Tu siervo Ben-adad dice: Te ruego que viva mi alma. Y él respondió: Si él vive aún, mi hermano es.

33 N ow the men observed diligently, and hurried to take this phrase; and they said, “Your brother Ben Hadad.” Then he said, “Go, bring him.” Then Ben Hadad came out to him; and he caused him to come up into the chariot.

Esto tomaron aquellos hombres por buen agüero, y presto tomaron esta palabra de su boca, y dijeron: ¡Tu hermano Ben-adad! Y él dijo: Id, y traedle. Ben-adad entonces se presentó al rey de Israel, y él le hizo subir en el carro.

34 B en Hadad said to him, “The cities which my father took from your father I will restore. You shall make streets for yourself in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria.” “I”, said Ahab, “will let you go with this covenant.” So he made a covenant with him, and let him go.

Y le dijo Ben-adad: Las ciudades que mi padre tomó al tuyo, yo las restituiré; y haz plazas en Damasco para ti, como mi padre las hizo en Samaria; y yo me iré de ti confederado. Y el rey de Israel hizo pacto con él, y lo envió.

35 A certain man of the sons of the prophets said to his fellow by Yahweh’s word, “Please strike me!” The man refused to strike him.

¶ Entonces un varón de los hijos de los profetas dijo a su compañero por palabra de Dios: Hiéreme ahora. Mas el otro varón no quiso herirle.

36 T hen he said to him, “Because you have not obeyed Yahweh’s voice, behold, as soon as you have departed from me, a lion will kill you.” As soon as he had departed from him, a lion found him and killed him.

Y él le dijo: Por cuanto no has escuchado la voz del SEÑOR, he aquí apartándote de mí, te herirá un león. Y cuando se apartó de él, le salió al encuentro un león, y le hirió.

37 T hen he found another man, and said, “Please strike me.” The man struck him and wounded him.

Luego se encontró con otro varón, y le dijo: Hiéreme ahora. Y el hombre le dio un golpe, y le hizo una herida.

38 S o the prophet departed, and waited for the king by the way, and disguised himself with his headband over his eyes.

Y el profeta se fue, y se puso delante del rey en el camino, y se disfrazó con un velo sobre los ojos.

39 A s the king passed by, he cried to the king; and he said, “Your servant went out into the middle of the battle; and behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man to me, and said, ‘Guard this man! If by any means he is missing, then your life shall be for his life, or else you shall pay a talent of silver.’

Y cuando el rey pasaba, él dio voces al rey, y dijo: Tu siervo salió entre la tropa; y he aquí apartándose uno, me trajo un hombre, diciendo: Guarda a este hombre, y si llegare a faltar, tu vida será por la suya, o pagarás un talento de plata.

40 A s your servant was busy here and there, he was gone.” The king of Israel said to him, “So shall your judgment be. You yourself have decided it.”

Y cuando tu siervo estaba ocupado a una parte y a otra, él desapareció. Entonces el rey de Israel le dijo: Esa será tu sentencia; tú la has pronunciado.

41 H e hurried, and took the headband away from his eyes; and the king of Israel recognized that he was one of the prophets.

Entonces él se quitó presto el velo de sobre sus ojos, y el rey de Israel conoció que era de los profetas.

42 H e said to him, “Yahweh says, ‘Because you have let go out of your hand the man whom I had devoted to destruction, therefore your life will take the place of his life, and your people take the place of his people.’”

Y él le dijo: Así dijo el SEÑOR: Por cuanto soltaste de su mano el varón de mi anatema, tu vida será por la suya, y tu pueblo por el suyo.

43 T he king of Israel went to his house sullen and angry, and came to Samaria.

Y el rey de Israel se fue a su casa triste y enojado, y llegó a Samaria.
