1 W hen Jesus had spoken these words, he went out with his disciples over the brook Kidron, where there was a garden, into which he and his disciples entered.

¶ Habiendo dicho Jesús estas cosas, salió con sus discípulos tras el arroyo de Cedrón, donde había un huerto, en el cual entró Jesús y sus discípulos.

2 N ow Judas, who betrayed him, also knew the place, for Jesus often met there with his disciples.

Y también Judas, el que le entregaba, conocía aquel lugar; porque muchas veces Jesús se juntaba allí con sus discípulos.

3 J udas then, having taken a detachment of soldiers and officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, came there with lanterns, torches, and weapons.

Judas pues tomando una compañía de soldados, y ministros de los sumos sacerdotes y de los fariseos, vino allí con linternas y antorchas, y con armas.

4 J esus therefore, knowing all the things that were happening to him, went out, and said to them, “Who are you looking for?”

Pero Jesús, sabiendo todas las cosas que habían de venir sobre él, salió delante, y les dijo: ¿A quién buscáis?

5 T hey answered him, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus said to them, “I am he.” Judas also, who betrayed him, was standing with them.

Le respondieron: A Jesús Nazareno. Les dice Jesús: YO SOY (Y estaba también con ellos Judas, el que le entregaba.)

6 W hen therefore he said to them, “I am he,” they went backward, and fell to the ground.

Y cuando les dijo, YO SOY, volvieron atrás, y cayeron a tierra.

7 A gain therefore he asked them, “Who are you looking for?” They said, “Jesus of Nazareth.”

Les volvió, pues, a preguntar: ¿A quién buscáis? Y ellos dijeron: A Jesús Nazareno.

8 J esus answered, “I told you that I am he. If therefore you seek me, let these go their way,”

Respondió Jesús: Ya os he dicho que YO SOY; pues si a mí me buscáis, dejad ir a éstos.

9 t hat the word might be fulfilled which he spoke, “Of those whom you have given me, I have lost none.”

Para que se cumpliera la palabra que había dicho: De los que me diste, ninguno de ellos perdí.

10 S imon Peter therefore, having a sword, drew it, and struck the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus.

Entonces Simón Pedro, que tenía espada, la sacó, e hirió a un siervo del sumo sacerdote, y le cortó la oreja derecha. Y el siervo se llamaba Malco.

11 J esus therefore said to Peter, “Put the sword into its sheath. The cup which the Father has given me, shall I not surely drink it?”

Jesús entonces dijo a Pedro: Mete tu espada en la vaina; el vaso que el Padre me ha dado, ¿no lo tengo que beber?

12 S o the detachment, the commanding officer, and the officers of the Jews, seized Jesus and bound him,

Entonces la compañía de los soldados y el tribuno, y los ministros de los judíos, prendieron a Jesús y le ataron.

13 a nd led him to Annas first, for he was father-in-law to Caiaphas, who was high priest that year.

¶ Y le llevaron primeramente a Anás; porque era suegro de Caifás, el cual era sumo sacerdote de aquel año, (y él le envió atado a Caifás, el sumo sacerdote.)

14 N ow it was Caiaphas who advised the Jews that it was expedient that one man should perish for the people.

Y era Caifás el que había dado el consejo a los judíos, que era necesario que un hombre muriera por el pueblo.

15 S imon Peter followed Jesus, as did another disciple. Now that disciple was known to the high priest, and entered in with Jesus into the court of the high priest;

Y seguían a Jesús Simón Pedro, y otro discípulo. Y aquel discípulo era conocido del sumo sacerdote, y entró con Jesús al atrio del sumo sacerdote;

16 b ut Peter was standing at the door outside. So the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to her who kept the door, and brought in Peter.

mas Pedro estaba fuera a la puerta. Y salió aquel discípulo que era conocido del sumo sacerdote, y habló a la portera, y metió dentro a Pedro.

17 T hen the maid who kept the door said to Peter, “Are you also one of this man’s disciples?” He said, “I am not.”

Entonces la criada portera dijo a Pedro: ¿No eres tú también de los discípulos de este hombre? Dice él: No soy.

18 N ow the servants and the officers were standing there, having made a fire of coals, for it was cold. They were warming themselves. Peter was with them, standing and warming himself.

Y estaban en pie los siervos y los ministros que habían encendido las ascuas; porque hacía frío, y se calentaban; y estaba también con ellos Pedro en pie, calentándose.

19 T he high priest therefore asked Jesus about his disciples, and about his teaching.

Y el sumo sacerdote preguntó a Jesús acerca de sus discípulos y de su doctrina.

20 J esus answered him, “I spoke openly to the world. I always taught in synagogues, and in the temple, where the Jews always meet. I said nothing in secret.

Jesús le respondió: Yo manifiestamente he hablado al mundo; yo siempre he enseñado en la sinagoga y en el Templo, donde se juntan todos los judíos, y nada he hablado en oculto.

21 W hy do you ask me? Ask those who have heard me what I said to them. Behold, these know the things which I said.”

¿Qué me preguntas a mí? Pregunta a los que han oído, qué les haya yo hablado; he aquí, ellos saben lo que yo he dicho.

22 W hen he had said this, one of the officers standing by slapped Jesus with his hand, saying, “Do you answer the high priest like that?”

Y como él hubo dicho esto, uno de los criados que estaba allí, dio una bofetada a Jesús, diciendo: ¿Así respondes al sumo sacerdote?

23 J esus answered him, “If I have spoken evil, testify of the evil; but if well, why do you beat me?”

Le respondió Jesús: Si he hablado mal, da testimonio del mal; y si bien, ¿por qué me hieres?

24 A nnas sent him bound to Caiaphas, the high priest.

Así lo envió Anás atado a Caifás, el sumo sacerdote.

25 N ow Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. They said therefore to him, “You aren’t also one of his disciples, are you?” He denied it, and said, “I am not.”

Estaba pues Pedro en pie calentándose. Y le dijeron: ¿No eres tú de sus discípulos? El negó, y dijo: No soy.

26 O ne of the servants of the high priest, being a relative of him whose ear Peter had cut off, said, “Didn’t I see you in the garden with him?”

Uno de los siervos del sumo sacerdote, pariente de aquel a quien Pedro había cortado la oreja, le dijo: ¿No te vi yo en el huerto con él?

27 P eter therefore denied it again, and immediately the rooster crowed.

Y negó Pedro otra vez; y luego el gallo cantó.

28 T hey led Jesus therefore from Caiaphas into the Praetorium. It was early, and they themselves didn’t enter into the Praetorium, that they might not be defiled, but might eat the Passover.

¶ Y llevaron a Jesús de Caifás al pretorio; y era por la mañana; y ellos no entraron en el pretorio para no ser contaminados, sino que comieran el cordero de la pascua.

29 P ilate therefore went out to them, and said, “What accusation do you bring against this man?”

Entonces salió Pilato a ellos fuera, y dijo: ¿Qué acusación traéis contra este hombre?

30 T hey answered him, “If this man weren’t an evildoer, we wouldn’t have delivered him up to you.”

Respondieron y le dijeron: Si éste no fuera malhechor, no te lo habríamos entregado.

31 P ilate therefore said to them, “Take him yourselves, and judge him according to your law.” Therefore the Jews said to him, “It is not lawful for us to put anyone to death,”

Les dice entonces Pilato: Tomadle vosotros, y juzgadle según vuestra ley. Y los judíos le dijeron: A nosotros no nos es lícito matar a nadie;

32 t hat the word of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spoke, signifying by what kind of death he should die.

para que se cumpliera el dicho de Jesús, que había dicho, señalando de qué muerte había de morir.

33 P ilate therefore entered again into the Praetorium, called Jesus, and said to him, “Are you the King of the Jews?”

Así que, Pilato volvió a entrar en el pretorio, y llamó a Jesús, y le dijo: ¿Eres tú el Rey de los Judíos?

34 J esus answered him, “Do you say this by yourself, or did others tell you about me?”

Le respondió Jesús: ¿Dices tú esto de ti mismo, o te lo han dicho otros de mí?

35 P ilate answered, “I’m not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests delivered you to me. What have you done?”

Pilato respondió: ¿Soy yo judío? Tu nación, y los sumos sacerdotes, te han entregado a mí; ¿qué has hecho?

36 J esus answered, “My Kingdom is not of this world. If my Kingdom were of this world, then my servants would fight, that I wouldn’t be delivered to the Jews. But now my Kingdom is not from here.”

Respondió Jesús: Mi Reino no es de este mundo; si de este mundo fuera mi Reino, mis servidores pelearían para que yo no fuera entregado a los judíos; ahora, pues, mi Reino no es de aquí.

37 P ilate therefore said to him, “Are you a king then?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this reason I have been born, and for this reason I have come into the world, that I should testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.”

Le dijo entonces Pilato: ¿Luego Rey eres tú? Respondió Jesús: Tú dices que YO SOY Rey. Yo para esto he nacido, y para esto he venido al mundo, para dar testimonio a la Verdad. Todo aquel que es de la Verdad, oye mi voz.

38 P ilate said to him, “What is truth?” When he had said this, he went out again to the Jews, and said to them, “I find no basis for a charge against him.

Le dice Pilato: ¿Qué cosa es la Verdad? Y como hubo dicho esto, salió otra vez a los judíos, y les dice: Yo no hallo en él ningún crimen.

39 B ut you have a custom, that I should release someone to you at the Passover. Therefore do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?”

Pero vosotros tenéis costumbre, que os suelte uno en la Pascua, ¿queréis, pues, que os suelte al Rey de los Judíos?

40 T hen they all shouted again, saying, “Not this man, but Barabbas!” Now Barabbas was a robber.

Entonces todos dieron voces otra vez, diciendo: No a éste, sino a Barrabás. Y este Barrabás era ladrón.
