1 B e not thou envious of evil men, neither desire to be with them;

Não tenha inveja dos ímpios, nem deseje a companhia deles;

2 f or their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief.

pois destruição é o que planejam no coração, e só falam de violência.

3 T hrough wisdom is a house built, and by understanding it is established;

Com sabedoria se constrói a casa, e com discernimento se consolida.

4 a nd by knowledge are the chambers filled with all precious and pleasant substance.

Pelo conhecimento os seus cômodos se enchem do que é precioso e agradável.

5 A wise man is strong, and a man of knowledge increaseth strength.

O homem sábio é poderoso, e quem tem conhecimento aumenta a sua força;

6 F or with good advice shalt thou make thy war; and in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.

quem sai à guerra precisa de orientação, e com muitos conselheiros se obtém a vitória.

7 W isdom is too high for a fool: he will not open his mouth in the gate.

A sabedoria é elevada demais para o insensato; ele não sabe o que dizer nas assembléias.

8 H e that deviseth to do evil shall be called a master of intrigues.

Quem maquina o mal será conhecido como criador de intrigas.

9 T he purpose of folly is sin, and the scorner is an abomination to men.

A intriga do insensato é pecado, e o zombador é detestado pelos homens.

10 t hou losest courage in the day of trouble, thy strength is small.

Se você vacila no dia da dificuldade, como será limitada a sua força!

11 D eliver them that are taken forth unto death, and withdraw not from them that stagger to slaughter.

Liberte os que estão sendo levados para a morte; socorra os que caminham trêmulos para a matança!

12 I f thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not, will not he that weigheth the hearts consider it? And he that preserveth thy soul, he knoweth it; and he rendereth to man according to his work.

Mesmo que você diga: “Não sabíamos o que estava acontecendo!” Não o perceberia aquele que pesa os corações? Não o saberia aquele que preserva a sua vida? Não retribuirá ele a cada um segundo o seu procedimento?

13 E at honey, my son, for it is good; and a honeycomb is sweet to thy taste:

Coma mel, meu filho. É bom. O favo é doce ao paladar.

14 s o consider wisdom for thy soul; if thou hast found it, there shall be a result, and thine expectation shall not be cut off.

Saiba que a sabedoria também será boa para a sua alma; se você a encontrar, certamente haverá futuro para você, e a sua esperança não vai decepcioná-lo.

15 L ay not wait, O wicked, against the dwelling of the righteous; lay not waste his resting-place.

Não fique de tocaia, como faz o ímpio, contra a casa do justo, e não destrua o seu local de repouso,

16 F or the righteous falleth seven times, and riseth up again; but the wicked stumble into disaster.

pois ainda que o justo caia sete vezes, tornará a erguer-se, mas os ímpios são arrastados pela calamidade.

17 R ejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thy heart be glad when he stumbleth;

Não se alegre quando o seu inimigo cair, nem exulte o seu coração quando ele tropeçar,

18 l est Jehovah see it, and it be evil in his sight, and he turn away his anger from him.

para que o Senhor não veja isso, e se desagrade, e desvie dele a sua ira.

19 F ret not thyself because of evil-doers, be not envious of the wicked:

Não se aborreça por causa dos maus, nem tenha inveja dos ímpios,

20 f or there shall be no future to the evil; the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

pois não há futuro para o mau, e a lâmpada dos ímpios se apagará.

21 M y son, fear Jehovah and the king: meddle not with them that are given to change.

Tema o Senhor e o rei, meu filho, e não se associe aos dissidentes,

22 F or their calamity shall rise suddenly; and who knoweth the ruin of them both?

pois terão repentina destruição, e quem pode imaginar a ruína que o Senhor e o rei podem causar? Outros Ditados de Sabedoria

23 T hese things also come from the wise. It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment.

Aqui vão outros ditados dos sábios: Agir com parcialidade nos julgamentos não é nada bom.

24 H e that saith unto the wicked, Thou art righteous, peoples shall curse him, nations shall abhor him;

Quem disser ao ímpio: “Você é justo”, será amaldiçoado pelos povos e sofrerá a indignação das nações.

25 b ut to them that rebuke shall be delight, and a good blessing cometh upon them.

Mas os que condenam o culpado terão vida agradável; receberão grandes bênçãos.

26 H e kisseth the lips who giveth a right answer.

A resposta sincera é como beijo nos lábios.

27 P repare thy work without, and put thy field in order, and afterwards build thy house.

Termine primeiro o seu trabalho a céu aberto; deixe pronta a sua lavoura. Depois constitua família.

28 B e not a witness against thy neighbour without cause; and wouldest thou deceive with thy lips?

Não testemunhe sem motivo contra o seu próximo nem use os seus lábios para enganá-lo.

29 S ay not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me, I will render to the man according to his work.

Não diga: “Farei com ele o que fez comigo; ele pagará pelo que fez”.

30 I went by the field of a sluggard, and by the vineyard of a man void of understanding;

Passei pelo campo do preguiçoso, pela vinha do homem sem juízo;

31 a nd lo, it was all grown over with thistles, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and its stone wall was broken down.

havia espinheiros por toda parte, o chão estava coberto de ervas daninhas e o muro de pedra estava em ruínas.

32 T hen I looked, I took it to heart; I saw, I received instruction:

Observei aquilo, e fiquei pensando; olhei, e aprendi esta lição:

33 — A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest!

“Vou dormir um pouco”, você diz. “Vou cochilar um momento; vou cruzar os braços e descansar mais um pouco”,

34 S o shall thy poverty come a roving plunderer, and thy penury as an armed man.

mas a pobreza lhe sobrevirá como um assaltante, e a sua miséria como um homem armado.
