1 A nd it came to pass in the third year of Hoshea the son of Elah, king of Israel, that Hezekiah the son of Ahaz, king of Judah, began to reign.

En el tercer año de Oseas hijo de Ela rey de Israel, comenzó a reinar Ezequías hijo de Acaz rey de Judá.

2 H e was twenty-five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Abi, daughter of Zechariah.

Cuando comenzó a reinar era de veinticinco años, y reinó en Jerusalén veintinueve años. El nombre de su madre fue Abi hija de Zacarías.

3 A nd he did what was right in the sight of Jehovah, according to all that David his father had done.

El hizo lo recto ante los ojos del SEÑOR, conforme a todas las cosas que había hecho David su padre.

4 H e removed the high places, and broke the columns, and cut down the Asherahs, and broke in pieces the serpent of brass that Moses had made; for to those days the children of Israel burned incense to it: and he called it Nehushtan.

El quitó los lugares altos, y quebró las imágenes, y taló los bosques, e hizo pedazos la serpiente de bronce que había hecho Moisés, porque hasta entonces le quemaban incienso los hijos de Israel; y le llamó por nombre Nehustán (cosa de bronce).

5 H e trusted in Jehovah the God of Israel; so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor that were before him.

En el SEÑOR Dios de Israel puso su esperanza; después ni antes de él no hubo otro como él entre todos los reyes de Judá.

6 A nd he clave to Jehovah, and did not turn aside from following him, but kept his commandments, which Jehovah commanded Moses.

Porque se llegó al SEÑOR, y no se apartó de él, y guardó los mandamientos que el SEÑOR mandó a Moisés.

7 A nd Jehovah was with him; he prospered whithersoever he went forth. And he rebelled against the king of Assyria, and served him not.

Y el SEÑOR estaba con él; y en todas las cosas a que salía prosperaba. El se rebeló contra el rey de Asiria, y no le sirvió.

8 H e smote the Philistines unto Gazah and its borders, from the watchmen's tower to the fortified city.

Hirió también a los filisteos hasta Gaza y sus términos, desde las torres de las atalayas hasta la ciudad fortalecida.

9 A nd it came to pass in the fourth year of king Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hoshea the son of Elah, king of Israel, Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria and besieged it.

En el cuarto año del rey Ezequías, que era el año séptimo de Oseas hijo de Ela, rey de Israel, subió Salmanasar rey de los asirios contra Samaria, y la cercó.

10 A nd at the end of three years they took it; in the sixth year of Hezekiah, that is, the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, Samaria was taken.

Y la tomaron al cabo de tres años; esto es, en el sexto año de Ezequías, el cual era el año noveno de Oseas rey de Israel, y así fue tomada Samaria.

11 A nd the king of Assyria carried away Israel to Assyria, and settled them in Halah and by the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes;

Y el rey de Asiria traspuso a Israel a Asiria, y los puso en Halah, y en Habor, junto al río de Gozán, y en las ciudades de los medos:

12 b ecause they hearkened not to the voice of Jehovah their God, but transgressed his covenant, all that Moses the servant of Jehovah commanded; and they would not hear nor do it.

Por cuanto no habían oído la voz del SEÑOR su Dios, antes habían quebrantado su pacto; y todas las cosas que Moisés siervo de Dios había mandado, ni las habían oído, ni las habían cumplido.

13 A nd in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah, Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the fortified cities of Judah, and took them.

¶ Y a los catorce años del rey Ezequías, subió Senaquerib rey de Asiria contra todas las ciudades fuertes de Judá, y las tomó.

14 A nd Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria to Lachish, saying, I have sinned; retire from me: I will bear what thou layest upon me. And the king of Assyria laid upon Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.

Entonces Ezequías rey de Judá envió a decir al rey de Asiria en Laquis: Yo he pecado; retírate de mí, y yo aceptaré todo lo que me impusieres. Entonces el rey de Asiria impuso a Ezequías rey de Judá trescientos talentos de plata, y treinta talentos de oro.

15 A nd Hezekiah gave all the silver that was found in the house of Jehovah, and in the treasures of the king's house.

Y Ezequías dio toda la plata que fue hallada en la Casa del SEÑOR, y en los tesoros de la casa real.

16 A t that time Hezekiah stripped the doors of the temple of Jehovah, and the posts that Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and gave them to the king of Assyria.

Entonces rompió Ezequías las puertas del templo del SEÑOR, y los quiciales que el mismo rey Ezequías había recubierto de oro, y lo dio al rey de Asiria.

17 A nd the king of Assyria sent Tartan and Rabsaris and Rab-shakeh from Lachish, with a strong force, against king Hezekiah, to Jerusalem. And they went up and came to Jerusalem. And when they were come up, they came and stood by the aqueduct of the upper pool, which is on the highway of the fuller's field.

Y el rey de Asiria envió a Tartán y a Rabsaris y a Rabsaces desde Laquis al rey Ezequías con un gran ejército contra Jerusalén; y subieron, y vinieron a Jerusalén. Y subieron, y vinieron, y pararon junto al conducto del estanque de arriba, que es en el camino de la heredad del lavador.

18 A nd they called to the king. Then came forth to them Eliakim the son of Hilkijah, who was over the household, and Shebnah the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph, the chronicler.

Y llamaron al rey, y salió a ellos Eliacim hijo de Hilcías, que era mayordomo, y Sebna escriba, y Joa hijo de Asaf, escritor de crónicas.

19 A nd Rab-shakeh said to them, Say now to Hezekiah, Thus says the great king, the king of Assyria: What confidence is this wherein thou trustest?

Y les dijo Rabsaces: Decid ahora a Ezequías: Así dice el gran rey, el rey de Asiria: ¿Qué confianza es ésta en la que tú confías?

20 T hou sayest—but it is a word of the lips—There is counsel and strength for war. Now on whom dost thou rely, that thou hast revolted against me?

Dices, (por cierto palabras de labios): Consejo tengo y fuerzas para la guerra. Mas ¿en quién confías, que te has rebelado contra mí?

21 N ow behold, thou reliest upon the staff of that broken reed, upon Egypt, on which if a man lean, it goes into his hand and pierces it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all that rely upon him.

He aquí tú confías ahora en este bordón de caña quebrado, en Egipto, en el que si alguno se apoyare, le entrará por la mano, y se le pasará. Tal es Faraón rey de Egipto, para todos los que en él confían.

22 A nd if ye say to me, We rely upon Jehovah our God: is it not he whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah has removed, saying to Judah and Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem?

Y si me decís: Nosotros confiamos en el SEÑOR nuestro Dios, ¿no es aquel cuyos lugares altos y altares ha quitado Ezequías, y ha dicho a Judá y a Jerusalén: Delante de este altar adoraréis en Jerusalén?

23 A nd now, engage, I pray thee, with my master the king of Assyria, and I will give thee two thousand horses, if thou canst set the riders upon them.

Por tanto, ahora yo te ruego que des rehenes a mi señor, el rey de Asiria, y yo te daré dos mil caballos, si tú pudieres dar jinetes para ellos.

24 H ow then wilt thou turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master's servants? And thou reliest upon Egypt for chariots and for horsemen!

¿Cómo, pues, harás volver el rostro de un capitán, al menor de los siervos de mi señor, aunque estés confiado en Egipto por sus carros y su gente de a caballo?

25 A m I now come up without Jehovah against this place to destroy it? Jehovah said to me, Go up against this land and destroy it.

Además, ¿he venido yo ahora sin el SEÑOR a este lugar, para destruirlo? El SEÑOR me ha dicho: Sube a esta tierra, y destrúyela.

26 A nd Eliakim the son of Hilkijah, and Shebnah and Joah said to Rab-shakeh, Speak, we pray thee, to thy servants in Syriac, for we understand it, and talk not with us in the Jewish in the ears of the people that are on the wall.

Entonces dijo Eliacim hijo de Hilcías, y Sebna y Joa, a Rabsaces: Te ruego que hables a tus siervos siriaco, porque nosotros lo entendemos, y no hables con nosotros judaico a oídos del pueblo que está sobre el muro.

27 A nd Rab-shakeh said to them, Is it to thy master and to thee that my master sent me to speak these words? Is it not to the men that sit on the wall, that they may eat their own dung and drink their own urine with you?

Y Rabsaces les dijo: ¿Me ha enviado mi señor a ti y a tu señor para decir estas palabras, y no antes a los hombres que están sobre el muro, para comer su estiércol, y beber el agua de sus pies con vosotros?

28 A nd Rab-shakeh stood and cried with a loud voice in the Jewish, and spoke and said, Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria!

Y se paró Rabsaces, y clamó a gran voz en judaico, y habló, diciendo: Oíd la palabra del gran rey, el rey de Asiria.

29 T hus says the king: Let not Hezekiah deceive you; for he will not be able to deliver you out of the hand.

Así dijo el rey: No os engañe Ezequías, porque no os podrá librar de mi mano.

30 N either let Hezekiah make you rely upon Jehovah, saying, Jehovah will certainly deliver us, and this city shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.

Y no os haga Ezequías confiar en el SEÑOR, diciendo: De cierto nos librará el SEÑOR, y esta ciudad no será entregada en mano del rey de Asiria.

31 H earken not to Hezekiah; for thus says the king of Assyria: Make peace with me, and come out to me; and eat every one of his vine and every one of his fig-tree, and drink every one the waters of his own cistern;

No oigáis a Ezequías, porque así dice el rey de Asiria: Dadme bendición, y salid a mí, y cada uno comerá de su vid, y de su higuera, y cada uno beberá las aguas de su pozo;

32 u ntil I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olive-trees and of honey, that ye may live and not die; and hearken not to Hezekiah, when he persuades you, saying, Jehovah will deliver us.

hasta que yo venga, y os lleve a una tierra como la vuestra, tierra de grano y de vino, tierra de pan y de viñas; tierra de olivas, de aceite, y de miel; y viviréis, y no moriréis. No oigáis a Ezequías, porque os engaña cuando dice: El SEÑOR nos librará.

33 H ave any of the gods of the nations delivered at all his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?

¿Por ventura han librado los dioses de los gentiles cada uno su tierra de la mano del rey de Asiria?

34 W here are the gods of Hamath and of Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivvah? and have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?

¿Dónde está el dios de Hamat, y de Arfad? ¿Dónde está el dios de Sefarvaim, de Hena, y de Iva? ¿Pudieron éstos librar a Samaria de mi mano?

35 W hich are they among all the gods of the countries, who have delivered their country out of my hand, that Jehovah should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?

¿Qué dios de todos los dioses de las provincias ha librado a su provincia de mi mano, para que libre el SEÑOR de mi mano a Jerusalén?

36 B ut the people were silent and answered him not a word; for the king's command was, saying, Answer him not.

Y el pueblo calló, y no le respondieron palabra; porque había mandamiento del rey, el cual había dicho: No le respondáis.

37 A nd Eliakim the son of Hilkijah, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph, the chronicler, came to Hezekiah with their garments rent, and told him the words of Rab-shakeh.

Entonces Eliacim hijo de Hilcías, que era mayordomo, y Sebna el escriba, y Joa hijo de Asaf, escritor de crónicas, vinieron a Ezequías, rotos sus vestidos, y le recitaron las palabras de Rabsaces.
