1 T hen the Lord said to me, Take a large tablet and write upon it with a graving tool and in ordinary characters: Belonging to Maher-shalal-hash-baz.

El Señor me dijo: «Toma una tabla grande, y con un punzón escribe en ella acerca de Maher Salal Jasbaz.»

2 A nd I took faithful witnesses to record and attest for me, Uriah the priest and Zechariah son of Jeberechiah.

Como testigos confiables reuní conmigo al sacerdote Urías, y a Zacarías hijo de Jeberequías.

3 A nd I approached the prophetess, and when she had conceived and borne a son, the Lord said to me, Call his name Maher-shalal-hash-baz,

Luego me allegué a la profetisa, la cual concibió y dio a luz un hijo. Entonces el Señor me dijo: «Ponle por nombre Maher Salal Jasbaz,

4 F or before the child knows how to say, My father or my mother, the riches of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria shall be carried away before the king of Assyria.

porque antes de que el niño sepa decir “padre mío” y “madre mía”, la riqueza de Damasco y los despojos de Samaria serán llevados ante el rey de Asiria.»

5 T he Lord spoke to me yet again and said,

El Señor me habló una vez más, y me dijo:

6 B ecause this people have refused and despised the waters of Shiloah that go gently, and rejoice in and with Rezin and Remaliah’s son,

«Este pueblo rechazó las aguas de Siloé, que corren tranquilas, y se sintió feliz con Resín y con el hijo de Remalías.»

7 N ow therefore, behold, the Lord brings upon them the waters of the River, strong and many—even the king of Assyria and all the glory; and it will rise over all its channels, brooks, valleys, and canals and extend far beyond its banks;

Por lo tanto, el Señor hará que los inunden por completo las impetuosas y abundantes aguas del río, es decir, hará que el rey de Asiria los inunde con todo su poder. Y ese rey cubrirá todos sus ríos, y rebasará todas sus riberas;

8 A nd it will sweep on into Judah; it will overflow and go over, reaching even to the neck, and the outstretched wings shall fill the breadth of Your land, O Immanuel!

y llegará hasta Judá y la inundará, y seguirá adelante y le llegará hasta la garganta; luego, oh Emanuel, extenderá sus alas y llenará la tierra en toda su extensión.

9 M ake an uproar and be broken in pieces, O you peoples! Give ear, all you of far countries. Gird yourselves, and be thrown into consternation! Gird yourselves, and be dismayed!

¡Reúnanse ustedes, pueblos, que serán derrotados! Escuchen ustedes, gente de lejanas tierras: pueden prepararse para la batalla, ¡pero serán totalmente derrotados!

10 T ake counsel together, but it shall come to nought; speak the word, but it will not stand, for God is with us!

Pueden confabularse, pero no tendrán éxito; pueden hablar cuanto quieran, pero nada acontecerá, porque Dios está con nosotros.

11 F or the Lord spoke thus to me with His strong hand, and warned and instructed me not to walk in the way of this people, saying,

Ciertamente el Señor me habló con firmeza, y me dio instrucciones de no ir por el camino de este pueblo. Me dijo así:

12 D o not call conspiracy all that this people will call conspiracy; neither be in fear of what they fear, nor in dread.

«No llamen ustedes conspiración a todo lo que este pueblo llama conspiración. No tengan miedo, ni teman lo que ellos temen.

13 T he Lord of hosts—regard Him as holy and honor His holy name, and let Him be your fear and let Him be your dread.

Santifiquen al Señor de los ejércitos, y sólo a él. Que él sea para ustedes la única razón de su temor.

14 A nd He shall be a sanctuary; but He shall be a Stone of stumbling and a Rock of offense to both the houses of Israel, a trap and a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

Hagan de él su santuario. Pero para las dos casas de Israel será una piedra de tropiezo, que los hará caer; y para los habitantes de Jerusalén les será una trampa, una red.

15 A nd many among them shall stumble thereon; and they shall fall and be broken, and be snared and taken.

Muchos de ellos tropezarán; y caerán y serán destrozados; y se enredarán y quedarán apresados.

16 B ind up the testimony, seal the law and the teaching among my disciples.

»Ata el testimonio; ponle un sello a mi enseñanza entre mis discípulos.»

17 A nd I will wait for the Lord, Who is hiding His face from the house of Jacob; and I will look for and hope in Him.

Yo esperaré al Señor, que escondió su rostro de la casa de Jacob. En él confiaré.

18 B ehold, I and the children whom the Lord has given me are signs and wonders in Israel from the Lord of hosts, Who dwells on Mount Zion.

Aquí estoy yo, con los hijos que el Señor me ha dado. Somos en Israel señales portentosas de parte del Señor de los ejércitos, que habita en el monte de Sión.

19 A nd when the people shall say to you, Consult for direction mediums and wizards who chirp and mutter, should not a people seek and consult their God? Should they consult the dead on behalf of the living?

Si alguien les dice: «Consulten a los encantadores y a los adivinos, a los que hablan con susurros», ustedes respondan: «¿Acaso no es a su Dios a quien el pueblo debe consultar? ¿Acaso tiene que consultar a los muertos acerca de los vivos?»

20 t o the teaching and to the testimony! If their teachings are not in accord with this word, it is surely because there is no dawn and no morning for them.

¡A la enseñanza y al testimonio! Si sus palabras no corresponden a esto, es porque no les ha amanecido.

21 A nd they shall pass through sorely distressed and hungry; and when they are hungry, they will fret, and will curse by their king and their God; and whether they look upward

Y pasarán por la tierra fatigados y hambrientos. Y cuando tengan hambre, se enojarán y, de cara al cielo, maldecirán a su rey y a su Dios.

22 O r look to the earth, they will behold only distress and darkness, the gloom of anguish, and into thick darkness and widespread, obscure night they shall be driven away.

Y cuando miren a la tierra, sólo verán tribulación y tinieblas, oscuridad y angustia; ¡y en las tinieblas se hundirán!
