1 P attern yourselves after me, as I imitate and follow Christ (the Messiah).

2 I appreciate and commend you because you always remember me in everything and keep firm possession of the traditions (the substance of my instructions), just as I have passed them on to you.

3 B ut I want you to know and realize that Christ is the Head of every man, the head of a woman is her husband, and the Head of Christ is God.

4 A ny man who prays or prophesies (teaches, refutes, reproves, admonishes, and comforts) with his head covered dishonors his Head (Christ).

5 A nd any woman who prays or prophesies (teaches, refutes, reproves, admonishes, or comforts) when she is bareheaded dishonors her head (her husband); it is the same as shaved.

Pero toda mujer que ora o profetiza con la cabeza descubierta, deshonra su cabeza; es como si se hubiera rapado.

6 F or if a woman will not wear covering, then she should cut off her hair too; but if it is disgraceful for a woman to have her head shorn or shaven, let her cover.

Si la mujer no se cubre, que se corte también el cabello; pero si le es vergonzoso cortarse el pelo o raparse, entonces que se cubra.

7 F or a man ought not to wear anything on his head, for he is the image and glory of God '> his function of government reflects the majesty of the divine Rule]; but woman is man’s glory (majesty, preeminence).

El hombre no debe cubrirse la cabeza porque él es la imagen y la gloria de Dios; pero la mujer es la gloria del hombre.

8 F or man was not from woman, but woman from man;

Porque el hombre no procede de la mujer, sino que la mujer procede del hombre.

9 N either was man created on account of or for the benefit of woman, but woman on account of and for the benefit of man.

Y tampoco fue creado el hombre por causa de la mujer, sino que la mujer fue creada por causa del hombre.

10 T herefore she should have a covering on her head '> that she may show reverence as do] the angels.

Por esta razón, y por causa de los ángeles, la mujer debe llevar sobre su cabeza una señal de autoridad.

11 N evertheless, in the Lord and from His point of view woman is not apart from and independent of man, nor is man aloof from and independent of woman;

Pero en el Señor, ni el hombre existe sin la mujer, ni la mujer existe sin el hombre;

12 F or as woman was made from man, even so man is also born of woman; and all from God.

porque así como la mujer procede del hombre, también el hombre nace de la mujer, y todo procede de Dios.

13 C onsider for yourselves; is it proper and decent for a woman to offer prayer to God with her head uncovered?

Juzguen ustedes mismos: ¿Está bien que la mujer ore a Dios sin cubrirse la cabeza?

14 D oes not the native sense of propriety (experience, common sense, reason) itself teach you that for a man to wear long hair is a dishonor to him,

¿Acaso la naturaleza misma no les enseña que al hombre le es deshonroso dejarse crecer el cabello?

15 B ut if a woman has long hair, it is her ornament and glory? For her hair is given to her for a covering.

Por el contrario, para la mujer es motivo de honra dejarse crecer el cabello; porque en lugar de velo le fue dado el cabello.

16 N ow if anyone is disposed to be argumentative and contentious about this, we hold to and recognize no other custom than this, nor do the churches of God generally.

Pero si alguno quiere discutir acerca de esto, yo digo que nosotros no tenemos otra costumbre, ni las iglesias de Dios. Abusos en la Cena del Señor

17 B ut in what I instruct next I do not commend, because when you meet together, it is not for the better but for the worse.

Pero mi felicitación no se extiende a lo que sigue, porque ustedes no se congregan para buscar lo mejor, sino lo peor.

18 F or in the first place, when you assemble as a congregation, I hear that there are cliques (divisions and factions) among you; and I in part believe it,

Pues en primer lugar oigo decir que, cuando se reúnen como iglesia, hay divisiones entre ustedes; y en parte lo creo.

19 F or doubtless there have to be factions or parties among you in order that they who are genuine and of approved fitness may become evident and plainly recognized among you.

Porque es preciso que haya disensiones entre ustedes, para que se vea claramente quiénes de ustedes son los que están aprobados.

20 S o when you gather for your meetings, it is not the supper instituted by the Lord that you eat,

Y es que, cuando ustedes se reúnen, en realidad ya no lo hacen para participar en la cena del Señor,

21 F or in eating each one to get his own supper first, and one goes hungry while another gets drunk.

sino que cada uno se adelanta a comer su propia cena; y mientras que unos se quedan con hambre, otros se emborrachan.

22 W hat! Do you have no houses in which to eat and drink? Or do you despise the church of God and mean to show contempt for it, while you humiliate those who are poor (have no homes and have brought no food)? What shall I say to you? Shall I commend you in this? No, I will not!

¿Acaso no tienen casas, donde pueden comer y beber? ¿O es que menosprecian a la iglesia de Dios, y quieren poner en vergüenza a los que no tienen nada? ¿Qué debo decirles? ¿Que los felicito? ¡No puedo felicitarlos por esto! Institución de la Cena del Señor

23 F or I received from the Lord Himself that which I passed on to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when He was treacherously delivered up and while His betrayal was in progress took bread,

Yo recibí del Señor lo mismo que les he enseñado a ustedes: Que la noche que fue entregado, el Señor Jesús tomó pan,

24 A nd when He had given thanks, He broke and said, Take, eat. This is My body, which is broken for you. Do this to call Me to remembrance.

y que luego de dar gracias, lo partió y dijo: «Tomen y coman. Esto es mi cuerpo, que por ustedes es partido; hagan esto en mi memoria.»

25 S imilarly when supper was ended, He took the cup also, saying, This cup is the new covenant in My blood. Do this, as often as you drink, to call Me to remembrance.

Asimismo, después de cenar tomó la copa y dijo: «Esta copa es el nuevo pacto en mi sangre; hagan esto, cada vez que la beban, en mi memoria.»

26 F or every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are representing and signifying and proclaiming the fact of the Lord’s death until He comes.

Por lo tanto, siempre que coman este pan, y beban esta copa, proclaman la muerte del Señor, hasta que él venga. Participación indigna en la Cena

27 S o then whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in a way that is unworthy will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.

Así que cualquiera que coma este pan o beba esta copa del Señor de manera indigna, será culpado del cuerpo y de la sangre del Señor.

28 L et a man examine himself, and so should he eat of the bread and drink of the cup.

Por tanto, cada uno de ustedes debe examinarse a sí mismo antes de comer el pan y de beber de la copa.

29 F or anyone who eats and drinks without discriminating and recognizing with due appreciation that body, eats and drinks a sentence (a verdict of judgment) upon himself.

Porque el que come y bebe de manera indigna, y sin discernir el cuerpo del Señor, come y bebe para su propio castigo.

30 T hat is the reason many of you are weak and sickly, and quite enough of you have fallen into the sleep of death.

Por eso hay entre ustedes muchos enfermos y debilitados, y muchos han muerto.

31 F or if we searchingly examined ourselves, we should not be judged and penalty decreed.

Si nos examináramos a nosotros mismos, no seríamos juzgados;

32 B ut when we are judged by the Lord, we are disciplined and chastened, so that we may not be condemned with the world.

pero si somos juzgados por el Señor, somos disciplinados por él, para que no seamos condenados con el mundo.

33 S o then, my brothers, when you gather together to eat, wait for one another.

Así que, hermanos míos, cuando se reúnan a comer, espérense unos a otros.

34 I f anyone is hungry, let him eat at home, lest you come together to bring judgment. About the other matters, I will give you directions when I come.

Si alguno tiene hambre, que coma en su casa, para que sus reuniones no se hagan acreedoras al castigo. Lo demás lo pondré en orden cuando vaya a verlos.
