1 A nd while they were talking to the people, the high priests and the military commander of the temple and the Sadducees came upon them,

Mientras hablaban así con el pueblo, se les vinieron encima los sacerdotes, el jefe de la guardia del templo, y los saduceos.

2 B eing vexed and indignant through and through because they were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection from the dead.

Estaban resentidos porque enseñaban y anunciaban la resurrección de entre los muertos en Jesús,

3 S o they laid hands on them (arrested them) and put them in prison until the following day, for it was already evening.

así que los aprehendieron y los echaron en la cárcel hasta el día siguiente, porque ya era tarde.

4 B ut many of those who heard the message believed (adhered to and trusted in and relied on Jesus as the Christ). And their number grew and came to about 5, 000.

Pero muchos de los que habían oído sus palabras, creyeron; y contados solamente los varones eran como cinco mil.

5 T hen on the following day, their magistrates and elders and scribes were assembled in Jerusalem,

Al día siguiente se reunieron en Jerusalén los gobernantes, los ancianos, los escribas,

6 I ncluding Annas the high priest and Caiaphas and John and Alexander and all others who belonged to the high priestly relationship.

el sumo sacerdote Anás, Caifás, Juan y Alejandro, y todos los familiares de los sumos sacerdotes.

7 A nd they set the men in their midst and repeatedly demanded, By what sort of power or by what kind of authority did you do this ?

Pusieron en medio de ellos a Pedro y Juan, y les preguntaron: «¿Con qué autoridad, o en nombre de quién hacen ustedes esto?»

8 T hen Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, Rulers of the people and members of the council (the Sanhedrin),

Entonces Pedro, lleno del Espíritu Santo, les dijo: «Gobernantes y ancianos del pueblo:

9 I f we are being put on trial today and examined concerning a good deed done to benefit a feeble (helpless) cripple, by what means this man has been restored to health,

Ya que hoy se nos interroga acerca del beneficio otorgado a un hombre enfermo, y de cómo fue sanado,

10 L et it be known and understood by all of you, and by the whole house of Israel, that in the name and through the power and authority of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, Whom you crucified, Whom God raised from the dead, in Him and by means of Him this man is standing here before you well and sound in body.

sepan todos ustedes, y todo el pueblo de Israel, que este hombre está sano en presencia de ustedes gracias al nombre de Jesucristo de Nazaret, a quien ustedes crucificaron y a quien Dios resucitó de los muertos.

11 T his is the Stone which was despised and rejected by you, the builders, but which has become the Head of the corner.

Este Jesús es la piedra que ustedes, los edificadores, rechazaron, y que no obstante ha llegado a ser la piedra angular.

12 A nd there is salvation in and through no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by and in which we must be saved.

En ningún otro hay salvación, porque no se ha dado a la humanidad ningún otro nombre bajo el cielo mediante el cual podamos alcanzar la salvación.»

13 N ow when they saw the boldness and unfettered eloquence of Peter and John and perceived that they were unlearned and untrained in the schools, they marveled; and they recognized that they had been with Jesus.

Al ver el valor de Pedro y de Juan, y como sabían que ellos eran gente del pueblo y sin mucha preparación, se maravillaron al reconocer que habían estado con Jesús.

14 A nd since they saw the man who had been cured standing there beside them, they could not contradict the fact or say anything in opposition.

Y al ver junto a ellos al hombre que había sido sanado, no pudieron decir nada en su contra,

15 B ut having ordered to go aside out of the council, they conferred (debated) among themselves,

pero les ordenaron que salieran del concilio para poder dialogar entre sí.

16 S aying, What are we to do with these men? For that an extraordinary miracle has been performed by (through) them is plain to all the residents of Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it.

Y se preguntaban: «¿Qué vamos a hacer con estos hombres? Tenemos que admitir que lo que han hecho es una señal innegable. Esto es evidente para todos los que viven en Jerusalén, y no lo podemos negar.

17 B ut in order that it may not spread further among the people and the nation, let us warn and forbid them with a stern threat to speak any more to anyone in this name.

Sin embargo, para que esto no se divulgue más entre el pueblo, vamos a amenazarlos para que, desde hoy, no le hablen a nadie acerca de este nombre.»

18 t hey summoned them and imperatively instructed them not to converse in any way or teach at all in or about the name of Jesus.

Entonces los llamaron y les advirtieron que no debían volver a hablar ni enseñar acerca del nombre de Jesús.

19 B ut Peter and John replied to them, Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you and obey you rather than God, you must decide (judge).

Pero Pedro y Juan les respondieron: «Juzguen ustedes: ¿Es justo delante de Dios obedecerlos a ustedes antes que a él?

20 B ut we cannot help telling what we have seen and heard.

Porque nosotros no podemos dejar de hablar acerca de lo que hemos visto y oído.»

21 T hen when had further threatened them, they let them go, not seeing how they could secure a conviction against them because of the people; for everybody was praising and glorifying God for what had occurred.

Entonces ellos los dejaron en libertad, no sin antes amenazarlos, pues no hallaron ningún modo de castigarlos. Y es que temían al pueblo, porque todos glorificaban a Dios por lo sucedido.

22 F or the man on whom this sign (miracle) of healing was performed was more than forty years old.

Y el hombre que había sido sanado milagrosamente tenía más de cuarenta años. Los creyentes piden confianza y valor

23 A fter they were permitted to go, returned to their own and told all that the chief priests and elders had said to them.

Una vez que fueron puestos en libertad, ellos se fueron con los suyos y les contaron todo lo que los principales sacerdotes y los ancianos les habían dicho.

24 A nd when they heard it, lifted their voices together with one united mind to God and said, O Sovereign Lord, You are He Who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and everything that is in them,

Al oírlos, todos juntos elevaron sus voces a Dios y dijeron: «Soberano Señor, tú creaste el cielo y la tierra, y el mar y todo lo que hay en ellos;

25 W ho by the mouth of our forefather David, Your servant and child, said through the Holy Spirit, Why did the heathen (Gentiles) become wanton and insolent and rage, and the people imagine and study and plan vain (fruitless) things ?

tú, Padre nuestro, por medio del Espíritu Santo dijiste en labios de tu siervo David: »¿Por qué se amotinan las gentes, y los pueblos piensan cosas vanas?

26 T he kings of the earth took their stand in array and the rulers were assembled and combined together against the Lord and against His Anointed (Christ, the Messiah).

Los reyes de la tierra se reunieron, y los príncipes se confabularon, contra el Señor, y contra su Cristo.

27 F or in this city there actually met and plotted together against Your holy Child and Servant Jesus, Whom You consecrated by anointing, both Herod and Pontius Pilate with the Gentiles and peoples of Israel,

»Es un hecho que Herodes y Poncio Pilato, junto con los no judíos y el pueblo de Israel, se reunieron en esta ciudad en contra de tu santo Hijo y ungido, Jesús,

28 T o carry out all that Your hand and Your will and purpose had predestined (predetermined) should occur.

para hacer todo lo que, por tu poder y voluntad, ya habías determinado que sucediera.

29 A nd now, Lord, observe their threats and grant to Your bond servants to declare Your message fearlessly,

Ahora, Señor, mira sus amenazas, y concede a estos siervos tuyos proclamar tu palabra sin ningún temor.

30 W hile You stretch out Your hand to cure and to perform signs and wonders through the authority and by the power of the name of Your holy Child and Servant Jesus.

Extiende también tu mano, y permite que se hagan sanidades y señales y prodigios en el nombre de tu santo Hijo Jesús.»

31 A nd when they had prayed, the place in which they were assembled was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they continued to speak the Word of God with freedom and boldness and courage.

Cuando terminaron de orar, el lugar donde estaban congregados se sacudió, y todos fueron llenos del Espíritu Santo y proclamaban la palabra de Dios sin ningún temor. La vida comunitaria

32 N ow the company of believers was of one heart and soul, and not one of them claimed that anything which he possessed was his own, but everything they had was in common and for the use of all.

Todos los que habían creído eran de un mismo sentir y de un mismo pensar. Ninguno reclamaba como suyo nada de lo que poseía, sino que todas las cosas las tenían en común.

33 A nd with great strength and ability and power the apostles delivered their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace (loving-kindness and favor and goodwill) rested richly upon them all.

Y los apóstoles daban un testimonio poderoso de la resurrección del Señor Jesús, y la gracia de Dios sobreabundaba en todos ellos.

34 N or was there a destitute or needy person among them, for as many as were owners of lands or houses proceeded to sell them, and one by one they brought (gave back) the amount received from the sales

Y no había entre ellos ningún necesitado, porque todos los que poseían terrenos o casas, los vendían, y el dinero de lo vendido lo llevaban

35 A nd laid it at the feet of the apostles (special messengers). Then distribution was made according as anyone had need.

y lo ponían en manos de los apóstoles, y éste era repartido según las necesidades de cada uno.

36 N ow Joseph, a Levite and native of Cyprus who was surnamed Barnabas by the apostles, which interpreted means Son of Encouragement,

Fue así como José, un levita de Chipre, a quien los apóstoles apodaban Bernabé (que significa, Hijo de consolación),

37 S old a field which belonged to him and brought the sum of money and laid it at the feet of the apostles.

vendió un terreno de su propiedad y entregó a los apóstoles el dinero de la venta.
