1 T hen Jonah prayed to the Lord his God from the fish’s belly,

Entonces Jonás oró al Señor su Dios desde el vientre del pez,

2 A nd said, I cried out of my distress to the Lord, and He heard me; out of the belly of Sheol cried I, and You heard my voice.

y dijo: «Señor, en mi angustia te invoqué, y tú me oíste. Desde el fondo del abismo clamé a ti, y tú escuchaste mi voz.

3 F or You cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the floods surrounded me; all Your waves and Your billows passed over me.

Me echaste a las profundidades del mar, y las corrientes me rodearon; ¡todas tus ondas y tus olas pasaron sobre mí!

4 T hen I said, I have been cast out of Your presence and Your sight; yet I will look again toward Your holy temple.

Entonces dije: “Me has desechado delante de tus ojos, pero todavía he de ver tu santo templo.”

5 T he waters compassed me about, even to life; the abyss surrounded me, the seaweed was wrapped about my head.

Las aguas me rodearon hasta el cuello, y el abismo me envolvió. ¡Las algas se enredaron en mi cabeza!

6 I went down to the bottoms and the very roots of the mountains; the earth with its bars closed behind me forever. Yet You have brought up my life from the pit and corruption, O Lord my God.

Bajé hasta los cimientos de los montes; la tierra echó para siempre sus cerrojos sobre mí; pero tú, mi Señor y Dios, rescataste mi vida del sepulcro.

7 W hen my soul fainted upon me, I earnestly and seriously remembered the Lord; and my prayer came to You, into Your holy temple.

Cuando dentro de mí desfallecía mi alma, me acordé de ti, Señor, Y mi oración llegó hasta ti, hasta tu santo templo.

8 T hose who pay regard to false, useless, and worthless idols forsake their own mercy and loving-kindness.

Los que siguen vanidades ilusorias, abandonan tu misericordia.

9 B ut as for me, I will sacrifice to You with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that which I have vowed. Salvation and deliverance belong to the Lord!

Pero yo, con voz de alabanza, te ofreceré sacrificios y cumpliré mis promesas. La salvación es tuya, Señor.»

10 A nd the Lord spoke to the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.

Y el Señor ordenó al pez que vomitara a Jonás en tierra.
