1 S o six days before the Passover Feast, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, who had died and whom He had raised from the dead.

Seis días antes de la pascua, Jesús fue a Betania, donde vivía Lázaro, el que había estado muerto y a quien Jesús había resucitado de los muertos.

2 S o they made Him a supper; and Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those at the table with Him.

Allí le ofrecieron una cena, y Marta servía, y Lázaro era uno de los que estaban sentados con él a la mesa.

3 M ary took a pound of ointment of pure liquid nard that was very expensive, and she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped them with her hair. And the whole house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.

Entonces María tomó unos trescientos gramos de perfume de nardo puro, que era muy caro, y con él ungió los pies de Jesús, y con sus cabellos los enjugó. Y la casa se llenó con el olor del perfume.

4 B ut Judas Iscariot, the one of His disciples who was about to betray Him, said,

Y dijo Judas Iscariote hijo de Simón, que era uno de sus discípulos y el que más tarde lo entregaría:

5 W hy was this perfume not sold for 300 denarii and that given to the poor (the destitute)?

«¿Por qué no se vendió este perfume por trescientos denarios, y se les dio a los pobres?»

6 N ow he did not say this because he cared for the poor but because he was a thief; and having the bag (the money box, the purse of the Twelve), he took for himself what was put into it.

Pero no dijo esto porque se preocupara por los pobres, sino porque era un ladrón y, como tenía la bolsa, sustraía de lo que se echaba en ella.

7 B ut Jesus said, Let her alone. It was that she should keep it for the time of My preparation for burial. '> embalming.]

Entonces Jesús le dijo: «Déjala tranquila, que ha guardado esto para el día de mi sepultura.

8 Y ou always have the poor with you, but you do not always have Me.

A los pobres siempre los tendrán entre ustedes, pero a mí no siempre me tendrán.» El complot contra Lázaro

9 N ow a great crowd of the Jews heard that He was at Bethany, and they came there, not only because of Jesus but that they also might see Lazarus, whom He had raised from the dead.

Una gran multitud de los judíos se enteró de que él estaba allí, así que vinieron, no solamente por causa de Jesús, sino también para ver a Lázaro, pues sabían que él lo había resucitado de los muertos.

10 S o the chief priests planned to put Lazarus to death also,

Pero los principales sacerdotes acordaron matar también a Lázaro,

11 B ecause on account of him many of the Jews were going away and believing in and adhering to Jesus.

pues por causa de él muchos de los judíos se apartaban y creían en Jesús. La entrada triunfal en Jerusalén

12 T he next day a vast crowd of those who had come to the Passover Feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem.

Al día siguiente, al oír que Jesús venía a Jerusalén, grandes multitudes que habían venido a la fiesta

13 S o they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him. And as they went, they kept shouting, Hosanna! Blessed is He and praise to Him Who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!

tomaron ramas de palmera y salieron a recibirlo. Y clamaban: «¡Hosanna! ¡Bendito el que viene en el nombre del Señor, el Rey de Israel!»

14 A nd Jesus, having found a young donkey, rode upon it, as it is written in the Scriptures,

Y Jesús halló un asno, y montó sobre él, como está escrito:

15 D o not fear, O Daughter of Zion! Look! Your King is coming, sitting on a donkey’s colt!

«No temas, hija de Sión; Aquí viene tu Rey, Montado sobre un pollino de asna.»

16 H is disciples did not understand and could not comprehend the meaning of these things at first; but when Jesus was glorified and exalted, they remembered that these things had been written about Him and had been done to Him.

Al principio, sus discípulos no comprendieron estas cosas; pero cuando Jesús fue glorificado, entonces se acordaron de que estas cosas estaban escritas acerca de él, y de que así le habían sucedido.

17 T he group that had been with Jesus when He called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from among the dead kept telling it to others.

Y la gente que estaba con él daba testimonio de cómo ordenó a Lázaro salir del sepulcro y lo resucitó de los muertos.

18 I t was for this reason that the crowd went out to meet Him, because they had heard that He had performed this sign (proof, miracle).

Por eso también la gente había venido a recibirlo, pues sabía que él había hecho esta señal.

19 T hen the Pharisees said among themselves, You see how futile your efforts are and how you accomplish nothing. See! The whole world is running after Him!

Pero los fariseos dijeron entre sí: «Como pueden ver, así no conseguiremos nada. ¡Todo el mundo se va tras él!» Unos griegos buscan a Jesús

20 N ow among those who went up to worship at the Feast were some Greeks.

Entre los que habían ido a la fiesta para adorar había algunos griegos.

21 T hese came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and they made this request, Sir, we desire to see Jesus.

Éstos se acercaron a Felipe, que era de Betsaida de Galilea, y entre ruegos le dijeron: «Señor, quisiéramos ver a Jesús.»

22 P hilip came and told Andrew; then Andrew and Philip together and told Jesus.

Felipe fue y se lo dijo a Andrés, y Andrés y Felipe se lo dijeron a Jesús.

23 A nd Jesus answered them, The time has come for the Son of Man to be glorified and exalted.

Jesús les dijo: «Ha llegado la hora de que el Hijo del Hombre sea glorificado.

24 I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, Unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains by itself alone. But if it dies, it produces many others and yields a rich harvest.

De cierto, de cierto les digo que, si el grano de trigo no cae en la tierra y muere, se queda solo; pero si muere, lleva mucho fruto.

25 A nyone who loves his life loses it, but anyone who hates his life in this world will keep it to life eternal.

El que ama su vida, la perderá; pero el que aborrece su vida en este mundo, la guardará para vida eterna.

26 I f anyone serves Me, he must continue to follow Me '> to cleave steadfastly to Me, conform wholly to My example in living and, if need be, in dying] and wherever I am, there will My servant be also. If anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him.

Si alguno me sirve, sígame; donde yo esté, allí también estará mi servidor. Si alguno me sirve, mi Padre lo honrará. Jesús anuncia su muerte

27 N ow My soul is troubled and distressed, and what shall I say? Father, save Me from this hour ? But it was for this very purpose that I have come to this hour.

»Ahora mi alma está turbada. ¿Y acaso diré: “Padre, sálvame de esta hora”? ¡Si para esto he venido!

28 F ather, glorify (honor and extol) Your name! Then there came a voice out of heaven saying, I have already glorified it, and I will glorify it again.

Padre, ¡glorifica tu nombre!» En ese momento vino una voz del cielo: «Lo he glorificado, y volveré a glorificarlo.»

29 T he crowd of bystanders heard the sound and said that it had thundered; others said, An angel has spoken to Him!

La multitud que estaba allí, y que había oído la voz, decía que había sido un trueno. Pero otros decían: «Le ha hablado un ángel.»

30 J esus answered, This voice has not come for My sake, but for your sake.

Jesús les dijo: «Esta voz no ha venido por mí, sino por ustedes.

31 N ow the judgment (crisis) of this world is coming on. Now the ruler (evil genius, prince) of this world shall be cast out (expelled).

Ahora es el juicio de este mundo; ahora será expulsado el príncipe de este mundo.

32 A nd I, if and when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw and attract all men to Myself.

Y cuando yo sea levantado de la tierra, atraeré a todos a mí mismo.»

33 H e said this to signify in what manner He would die.

Con esto Jesús daba a entender de qué muerte iba a morir.

34 A t this the people answered Him, We have learned from the Law that the Christ is to remain forever; how then can You say, The Son of Man must be lifted up ? Who is this Son of Man?

Pero la gente le respondió: «Nosotros hemos oído que, según la ley, el Cristo permanece para siempre. Entonces, ¿cómo puedes decir que es necesario que el Hijo del Hombre sea levantado? ¿Quién es este Hijo del Hombre?»

35 S o Jesus said to them, You will have the Light only a little while longer. Walk while you have the Light, so that darkness may not overtake and overcome you. He who walks about in the dark does not know where he goes.

Jesús les dijo: «Por un poco más de tiempo la luz está entre ustedes; mientras tengan luz, caminen, para que no los sorprendan las tinieblas; porque el que anda en tinieblas no sabe por dónde va.

36 W hile you have the Light, believe in the Light, that you may become sons of the Light and be filled with Light. Jesus said these things, and then He went away and hid Himself from them.

Mientras tengan la luz, crean en la luz, para que sean hijos de la luz.» Incredulidad de los judíos Dicho esto, Jesús se fue y se ocultó de ellos.

37 E ven though He had done so many miracles before them (right before their eyes), yet they still did not trust in Him and failed to believe in Him—

Y a pesar de que había hecho tantas señales ante ellos, no creían en él;

38 S o that what Isaiah the prophet said was fulfilled: Lord, who has believed our report and our message? And to whom has the arm (the power) of the Lord been shown (unveiled and revealed)?

para que se cumpliera la palabra del profeta Isaías, que dijo: «Señor, ¿quién ha creído a nuestro anuncio? ¿Y a quién se ha revelado el brazo del Señor?»

39 T herefore they could not believe. For Isaiah has also said,

Por esto no podían creer, pues Isaías también dijo:

40 H e has blinded their eyes and hardened and benumbed their hearts, to keep them from seeing with their eyes and understanding with their hearts and minds and repenting and turning to Me to heal them.

«Cegó los ojos de ellos, y endureció su corazón; Para que no vean con los ojos, y entiendan con el corazón, Y se conviertan, y yo los sane.»

41 I saiah said this because he saw His glory and spoke of Him.

Isaías dijo esto cuando vio su gloria y habló acerca de él.

42 A nd yet many even of the leading men (the authorities and the nobles) believed and trusted in Him. But because of the Pharisees they did not confess it, for fear that they would be expelled from the synagogue;

Con todo eso, muchos creyeron en él, incluso algunos de los gobernantes; pero por causa de los fariseos no lo confesaban, para no ser expulsados de la sinagoga.

43 F or they loved the approval and the praise and the glory that come from men more than the glory that comes from God.

Y es que amaban más la gloria de los hombres que la gloria de Dios. Las palabras de Jesús juzgarán a los hombres

44 B ut Jesus loudly declared, The one who believes in Me does not believe in and trust in and rely on Me, but in Him Who sent Me.

Jesús clamó y dijo: «El que cree en mí, no cree en mí sino en el que me envió;

45 A nd whoever sees Me sees Him Who sent Me.

y el que me ve, ve al que me envió.

46 I have come as a Light into the world, so that whoever believes in Me may not continue to live in darkness.

Yo soy la luz, y he venido al mundo para que todo aquel que cree en mí no permanezca en tinieblas.

47 I f anyone hears My teachings and fails to observe them, it is not I who judges him. For I have not come to judge and to condemn and to pass sentence and to inflict penalty on the world, but to save the world.

Al que oye mis palabras, y no las obedece, no lo juzgo; porque no he venido a juzgar al mundo, sino a salvar al mundo.

48 A nyone who rejects Me and persistently sets Me at naught, refusing to accept My teachings, has his judge; for the message that I have spoken will itself judge and convict him at the last day.

El que me rechaza, y no recibe mis palabras, tiene quien lo juzgue, y es la palabra que he hablado; ella lo juzgará en el día final.

49 T his is because I have never spoken on My own authority or of My own accord or as self-appointed, but the Father Who sent Me has Himself given Me orders what to say and what to tell.

Porque yo no he hablado por mi propia cuenta; el Padre, que me envió, me dio también el mandamiento de lo que debo decir y de lo que debo hablar.

50 A nd I know that His commandment is (means) eternal life. So whatever I speak, I am saying what My Father has told Me to say and in accordance with His instructions.

Y sé que su mandamiento es vida eterna. Por lo tanto, lo que yo hablo, lo hablo como el Padre me lo ha dicho.»
