1 N ow the Pharisees and Sadducees came up to Jesus, and they asked Him to show them a sign (spectacular miracle) from heaven.

Los fariseos y los saduceos se acercaron a Jesús para ponerlo a prueba, y le pidieron que les mostrara una señal del cielo.

2 H e replied to them, When it is evening you say, It will be fair weather, for the sky is red,

Pero él les dijo: «Al llegar la noche, ustedes dicen: “Va a hacer buen tiempo, porque el cielo está rojizo.”

3 A nd in the morning, It will be stormy today, for the sky is red and has a gloomy and threatening look. You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.

Por la mañana, ustedes dicen: “Hoy habrá tempestad, porque el cielo está rojizo y nublado.” ¡Bien que saben distinguir el aspecto del cielo, pero no pueden distinguir las señales de los tiempos!

4 A wicked and morally unfaithful generation craves a sign, but no sign shall be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. Then He left them and went away.

La generación mala y adúltera demanda una señal, pero no recibirá más señal que la del profeta Jonás.» Y los dejó y se fue. La levadura de los fariseos

5 W hen the disciples reached the other side of the sea, they found that they had forgotten to bring any bread.

Los discípulos llegaron al otro lado, pero se olvidaron de llevar pan.

6 J esus said to them, Be careful and on your guard against the leaven (ferment) of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

En eso, Jesús les dijo: «Abran los ojos y cuídense de la levadura de los fariseos y de los saduceos.»

7 A nd they reasoned among themselves about it, saying, It is because we did not bring any bread.

Ellos comentaban entre sí: «Dice esto porque no trajimos pan.»

8 B ut Jesus, aware of this, asked, Why are you discussing among yourselves the fact that you have no bread? O you little faith!

Pero Jesús se dio cuenta y les dijo: «Hombres de poca fe. ¿Por qué discuten entre ustedes que no tienen pan?

9 D o you not yet discern (perceive and understand)? Do you not remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many '> small hand] baskets you gathered?

¿Todavía no entienden, ni se acuerdan de los cinco panes entre cinco mil hombres, y cuántas cestas recogieron?

10 N or the seven loaves for the four thousand, and how many '> large provision] baskets you took up?

¿Ni de los siete panes entre cuatro mil, y cuántas canastas recogieron?

11 H ow is it that you fail to understand that I was not talking to you about bread? But beware of the leaven (ferment) of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

¿Cómo es que no entienden? Si les dije que se cuidaran de la levadura de los fariseos y de los saduceos, no fue por el pan.»

12 T hen they discerned that He did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

Entonces ellos entendieron que no les había dicho que se cuidaran de la levadura del pan, sino de las enseñanzas de los fariseos y de los saduceos. La confesión de Pedro

13 N ow when Jesus went into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, Who do people say that the Son of Man is?

Al llegar a la región de Cesarea de Filipo, Jesús preguntó a sus discípulos: «¿Quién dice la gente que es el Hijo del Hombre?»

14 A nd they answered, Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.

Ellos dijeron: «Unos dicen que es Juan el Bautista; otros, que es Elías; y otros, que es Jeremías o alguno de los profetas.»

15 H e said to them, But who do you say that I am?

Él les preguntó: «Y ustedes, ¿quién dicen que soy yo?»

16 S imon Peter replied, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.

Simón Pedro respondió: «¡Tú eres el Cristo, el Hijo del Dios viviente!»

17 T hen Jesus answered him, Blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied) are you, Simon Bar-Jonah. For flesh and blood have not revealed this to you, but My Father Who is in heaven.

Entonces Jesús le dijo: «Bienaventurado eres, Simón, hijo de Jonás, porque no te lo reveló ningún mortal, sino mi Padre que está en los cielos.

18 A nd I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock '> huge rock like Gibraltar] I will build My church, and the gates of Hades (the powers of the infernal region) shall not overpower it.

Y yo te digo que tú eres Pedro, y sobre esta roca edificaré mi iglesia, y las puertas del Hades no podrán vencerla.

19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind (declare to be improper and unlawful) on earth must be what is already bound in heaven; and whatever you loose (declare lawful) on earth must be what is already loosed in heaven.

A ti te daré las llaves del reino de los cielos. Todo lo que ates en la tierra será atado en los cielos, y todo lo que desates en la tierra será desatado en los cielos.»

20 T hen He sternly and strictly charged and warned the disciples to tell no one that He was Jesus the Christ.

Entonces mandó a sus discípulos que no dijeran a nadie que él era Jesús, el Cristo. Jesús anuncia su muerte

21 F rom that time forth Jesus began to show His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders and the high priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised from death.

Desde entonces Jesús comenzó a explicar a sus discípulos que él debía ir a Jerusalén y padecer mucho a manos de los ancianos, de los principales sacerdotes y de los escribas, y morir, y resucitar al tercer día.

22 T hen Peter took Him aside to speak to Him privately and began to reprove and charge Him sharply, saying, God forbid, Lord! This must never happen to You!

Pedro lo llevó aparte y comenzó a reconvenirlo: «Señor, ¡ten compasión de ti mismo! ¡Que esto jamás te suceda!»

23 B ut Jesus turned away from Peter and said to him, Get behind Me, Satan! You are in My way; for you are minding what partakes not of the nature and quality of God, but of men.

Pero él se volvió y le dijo a Pedro: «¡Aléjate de mi vista, Satanás! ¡Me eres un tropiezo! ¡Tú no piensas en las cosas de Dios, sino en cuestiones humanas!»

24 T hen Jesus said to His disciples, If anyone desires to be My disciple, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me '> cleave steadfastly to Me, conform wholly to My example in living and, if need be, in dying, also].

A sus discípulos Jesús les dijo: «Si alguno quiere seguirme, niéguese a sí mismo, tome su cruz, y sígame.

25 F or whoever is bent on saving his life shall lose it; and whoever loses his life for My sake shall find it.

Porque todo el que quiera salvar su vida, la perderá; y todo el que pierda su vida por causa de mí, la hallará.

26 F or what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life '> life in the kingdom of God]? Or what would a man give as an exchange for his life ?

Porque ¿de qué le sirve a uno ganarse todo el mundo, si pierde su alma? ¿O qué puede dar uno a cambio de su alma?

27 F or the Son of Man is going to come in the glory (majesty, splendor) of His Father with His angels, and then He will render account and reward every man in accordance with what he has done.

Porque el Hijo del Hombre vendrá en la gloria de su Padre con sus ángeles, y entonces pagará a cada uno conforme a sus obras.

28 T ruly I tell you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in (into) His kingdom.

De cierto les digo que algunos de los que están aquí no morirán hasta que hayan visto al Hijo del Hombre venir en su reino.»
