1 N ow the Festival of Unleavened Bread was drawing near, which is called the Passover.

2 A nd the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how to do away with, for they feared the people.

Los principales sacerdotes y los escribas buscaban la manera de matar a Jesús, pero le tenían miedo al pueblo.

3 B ut Satan entered into Judas, called Iscariot, who was one of the Twelve.

Entonces Satanás entró en Judas, uno de los doce, al que llamaban Iscariote,

4 A nd he went away and discussed with the chief priests and captains how he might betray Him and deliver Him up to them.

y éste fue a hablar con los principales sacerdotes y con los jefes de la guardia, para acordar con ellos cómo les entregaría a Jesús.

5 A nd they were delighted and pledged to give him money.

Ellos se alegraron, y acordaron darle dinero.

6 S o he agreed, and sought an opportunity to betray Him to them in the absence of the throng.

Judas aceptó y comenzó a buscar el mejor momento de entregarles a Jesús sin que el pueblo lo supiera. Institución de la Cena del Señor

7 T hen came the day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover had to be slain.

Llegó el día de los panes sin levadura, cuando es necesario sacrificar el cordero de la pascua.

8 S o Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare for us the Passover meal, that we may eat it.

Jesús envió a Pedro y a Juan con estas instrucciones: «Vayan a preparar todo para que comamos la pascua.»

9 T hey said to Him, Where do You want us to prepare ?

Ellos le preguntaron: «¿Dónde quieres que hagamos los preparativos?»

10 H e said to them, Behold, when you have gone into the city, a man carrying an earthen jug or pitcher of water will meet you; follow him into the house which he enters,

Jesús les dijo: «Al entrar en la ciudad, verán ustedes a un hombre que lleva un cántaro de agua; síganlo hasta la casa donde entre,

11 A nd say to the master of the house, The Teacher asks you, Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with My disciples?

y díganle al dueño de la casa: “El Maestro pregunta dónde está el aposento en donde comerá la pascua con sus discípulos.”

12 A nd he will show you a large room upstairs, furnished; there make preparations.

Entonces él les mostrará un gran aposento alto, ya dispuesto. Hagan allí los preparativos.»

13 A nd they went and found it as He had said to them; and they made ready the Passover.

Los discípulos partieron, y encontraron todo tal y como Jesús se lo había dicho, y prepararon la pascua.

14 A nd when the hour came, reclined at table, and the apostles with Him.

Cuando llegó la hora, Jesús se sentó a la mesa, y los apóstoles se sentaron con él.

15 A nd He said to them, I have earnestly and intensely desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer;

Entonces les dijo: «¡Cómo he deseado comer con ustedes esta pascua, antes de que padezca!

16 F or I say to you, I shall eat it no more until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.

Porque yo les digo que no volveré a comerla hasta su cumplimiento en el reino de Dios.»

17 A nd He took a cup, and when He had given thanks, He said, Take this and divide and distribute it among yourselves;

Y Jesús tomó la copa, dio gracias y dijo: «Tomen esto, y repártanlo entre ustedes;

18 F or I say to you that from now on I shall not drink of the fruit of the vine at all until the kingdom of God comes.

porque yo les digo que no volveré a beber del fruto de la vid hasta que venga el reino de Dios.»

19 T hen He took a loaf, and when He had given thanks, He broke and gave it to them saying, This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.

Luego tomó el pan, lo partió, dio gracias y les dio, al tiempo que decía: «Esto es mi cuerpo, que por ustedes es entregado; hagan esto en memoria de mí.»

20 A nd in like manner, He took the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament or covenant in My blood, which is shed (poured out) for you.

De igual manera, después de haber cenado tomó la copa y les dijo: «Esta copa es el nuevo pacto en mi sangre, que por ustedes va a ser derramada.

21 B ut, behold, the hand of him who is now engaged in betraying Me is with Me on the table.

Pero sepan que la mano del que me va a traicionar está sobre esta mesa, conmigo.

22 F or the Son of Man is going as it has been determined and appointed, but woe to that man by whom He is betrayed and delivered up!

A decir verdad, el Hijo del Hombre va, según lo que está determinado; pero ¡ay de aquél que lo va a traicionar!»

23 A nd they began to inquire among themselves which of them it was who was about to do this.

Ellos comenzaron a preguntarse unos a otros, quién de ellos sería capaz de hacer esto. La grandeza en el servicio

24 N ow an eager contention arose among them which of them was considered and reputed to be the greatest.

Además, los discípulos tuvieron una discusión en cuanto a quién de ellos sería el mayor.

25 B ut Jesus said to them, The kings of the Gentiles are deified by them and exercise lordship '> ruling as emperor-gods] over them; and those in authority over them are called benefactors and well-doers.

Pero Jesús les dijo: «Los reyes de las naciones se enseñorean de ellas, y los que tienen autoridad sobre ellas son llamados benefactores;

26 B ut this is not to be so with you; on the contrary, let him who is the greatest among you become like the youngest, and him who is the chief and leader like one who serves.

pero entre ustedes no debe ser así, sino que el mayor entre ustedes tiene que hacerse como el menor; y el que manda tiene que actuar como el que sirve.

27 F or who is the greater, the one who reclines at table (the master), or the one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at table? But I am in your midst as One Who serves.

Porque, ¿quién es mayor? ¿El que se sienta a la mesa, o el que sirve? ¿Acaso no es el que se sienta a la mesa? Sin embargo, yo estoy entre ustedes como el que sirve.

28 A nd you are those who have remained and persevered with Me in My trials;

»Pero son ustedes los que han permanecido conmigo en mis pruebas.

29 A nd as My Father has appointed a kingdom and conferred it on Me, so do I confer on you,

Por tanto, yo les asigno un reino, así como mi Padre me lo asignó a mí,

30 T hat you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

para que en mi reino coman y beban a mi mesa, y se sienten en tronos para juzgar a las doce tribus de Israel.» Jesús anuncia la negación de Pedro

31 S imon, Simon (Peter), listen! Satan has asked excessively that you be given up to him, that he might sift you like grain,

El Señor dijo también: «Simón, Simón, Satanás ha pedido sacudirlos a ustedes como si fueran trigo;

32 B ut I have prayed especially for you, that your faith may not fail; and when you yourself have turned again, strengthen and establish your brethren.

pero yo he rogado por ti, para que no te falte la fe. Y tú, cuando hayas vuelto, deberás confirmar a tus hermanos.»

33 A nd said to Him, Lord, I am ready to go with You both to prison and to death.

Pedro le dijo: «Señor, no sólo estoy dispuesto a ir contigo a la cárcel, sino también a la muerte.»

34 B ut Jesus said, I tell you, Peter, before a cock shall crow this day, you will three times deny that you know Me.

Y Jesús le dijo: «Pedro, te aseguro que el gallo no cantará hoy antes de que tú hayas negado tres veces que me conoces.» Bolsa, alforja y espada

35 A nd He said to them, When I sent you out with no purse or bag or sandals, did you lack anything? They answered, Nothing!

Luego Jesús les preguntó: «Cuando los envié sin bolsa, sin alforja y sin calzado, ¿les faltó algo?» Ellos respondieron: «Nada.»

36 T hen He said to them, But now let him who has a purse take it, and also bag; and let him who has no sword sell his mantle and buy a sword.

Entonces Jesús les dijo: «Pues ahora, el que tenga bolsa, que la tome, junto con la alforja. Y el que no tenga espada, que venda su capa y se compre una.

37 F or I tell you that this Scripture must yet be fulfilled in Me: And He was counted and classed among the wicked (the outlaws, the criminals); for what is written about Me has its fulfillment.

Porque yo les digo que todavía se tiene que cumplir en mí aquello que está escrito: “Y fue contado entre los pecadores”. Porque lo que está escrito acerca de mí, tiene que cumplirse.»

38 A nd they said, Look, Lord! Here are two swords. And He said to them, It is enough.

Ellos le dijeron: «Señor, ¡aquí hay dos espadas!» Y Jesús respondió: «¡Basta!» Jesús ora en Getsemaní

39 A nd He came out and went, as was His habit, to the Mount of Olives, and the disciples also followed Him.

Jesús salió y, conforme a su costumbre, se fue al monte de los Olivos. Sus discípulos lo siguieron.

40 A nd when He came to the place, He said to them, Pray that you may not enter into temptation.

Cuando llegó a ese lugar, Jesús les dijo: «Oren para que no caigan en tentación.»

41 A nd He withdrew from them about a stone’s throw and knelt down and prayed,

Luego, se apartó de ellos a una distancia como de un tiro de piedra, y allí se arrodilló y oró.

42 S aying, Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me; yet not My will, but '> always] Yours be done.

Y decía: «Padre, si quieres, haz que pase de mí esta copa; pero que no se haga mi voluntad, sino la tuya.»

43 A nd there appeared to Him an angel from heaven, strengthening Him in spirit.

[Se le apareció entonces un ángel del cielo, para fortalecerlo.

44 A nd being in an agony, He prayed more earnestly and intently, and His sweat became like great clots of blood dropping down upon the ground.

Lleno de angustia, oraba con más intensidad. Y era su sudor como grandes gotas de sangre que caían hasta la tierra.]

45 A nd when He got up from prayer, He came to the disciples and found them sleeping from grief,

Cuando Jesús se levantó después de orar, fue a donde estaban sus discípulos, y a causa de la tristeza los halló durmiendo.

46 A nd He said to them, Why do you sleep? Get up and pray that you may not enter into temptation.

Les dijo: «¿Por qué duermen? ¡Levántense y oren para que no caigan en tentación!» Arresto de Jesús

47 A nd while He was still speaking, behold, there came a crowd, and the man called Judas, one of the Twelve, was going before them. He drew near to Jesus to kiss Him,

Mientras Jesús estaba hablando, se hizo presente una turba, al frente de la cual iba Judas, que era uno de los doce y que se acercó a Jesús para besarlo.

48 B ut Jesus said to him, Judas! Would you betray and deliver up the Son of Man with a kiss?

Jesús le dijo: «Judas, ¿con un beso entregas al Hijo del Hombre?»

49 A nd when those who were around Him saw what was about to happen, they said, Lord, shall we strike with the sword?

Cuando los que estaban con él se dieron cuenta de lo que pasaba, le dijeron: «Señor, ¿echamos mano a la espada?»

50 A nd one of them struck the bond servant of the high priest and cut off his ear, the right one.

Uno de ellos hirió a un siervo del sumo sacerdote, y le cortó la oreja derecha.

51 B ut Jesus said, Permit them to go so far. And He touched the little (insignificant) ear and healed him.

Pero Jesús les dijo: «¡Basta! ¡Déjenlos!» Tocó entonces la oreja de aquel hombre, y lo sanó.

52 T hen Jesus said to those who had come out against Him—the chief priests and captains of the temple and elders —Have you come out with swords and clubs as against a robber?

Luego, Jesús les dijo a los principales sacerdotes, a los jefes de la guardia del templo y a los ancianos, que habían venido contra él: «¿Han venido con espadas y palos, como si fuera yo un ladrón?

53 W hen I was with you day after day in the temple '> enclosure], you did not stretch forth hands against Me. But this is your hour—and the power darkness.

Todos los días he estado con ustedes en el templo, y no me pusieron las manos encima. Pero ésta es la hora de ustedes, la hora del poder de las tinieblas.» Pedro niega a Jesús

54 T hen they seized Him and led Him away, bringing Him into the house of the high priest. Peter was following at a distance.

Aquellos arrestaron a Jesús y lo llevaron a la casa del sumo sacerdote. Pedro lo seguía de lejos.

55 A nd when they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and were seated together, Peter sat among them.

En medio del patio encendieron una fogata, y se sentaron alrededor de ella. También Pedro se sentó entre ellos.

56 T hen a servant girl, seeing him as he sat in the firelight and gazing at him, said, This man too was with Him.

Pero una criada que lo vio sentado frente al fuego, se fijó en él y dijo: «Éste también estaba con él.»

57 B ut he denied it and said, Woman, I do not know Him!

Pedro lo negó, y dijo: «Mujer, yo no lo conozco.»

58 A nd a little later someone else saw him and said, You are one of them also. But Peter said, Man, I am not!

Un poco después, otro lo vio y le dijo: «Tú también eres de ellos.» Pero Pedro le dijo: «¡Hombre, no lo soy!»

59 A nd when about an hour more had elapsed, still another emphatically insisted, It is the truth that this man also was with Him, for he too is a Galilean!

Como una hora después, otro afirmó: «No hay duda. Éste también estaba con él, porque es galileo.»

60 B ut Peter said, Man, I do not know what you are talking about. And instantly, while he was still speaking, the cock crowed.

Pedro le dijo: «¡Hombre, no sé de qué hablas!» Y en ese momento, mientras Pedro aún hablaba, el gallo cantó.

61 A nd the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter recalled the Lord’s words, how He had told him, Before the cock crows today, you will deny Me thrice.

En ese mismo instante el Señor se volvió a ver a Pedro, y entonces Pedro se acordó de las palabras del Señor, cuando le dijo: «Antes de que el gallo cante, me negarás tres veces.»

62 A nd he went out and wept bitterly.

Enseguida, Pedro salió de allí y lloró amargamente. Jesús escarnecido y azotado

63 N ow the men who had Jesus in custody treated Him with contempt and scoffed at and ridiculed Him and beat Him;

Los hombres que custodiaban a Jesús se burlaban de él y lo golpeaban.

64 T hey blindfolded Him also and asked Him, Prophesy! Who is it that struck You?

También le vendaron los ojos, le golpearon el rostro, y le decían: «Profetiza, ¿quién es el que te golpeó?»

65 A nd they said many other evil and slanderous and insulting words against Him, reviling Him.

Y lo insultaban y le decían muchas otras cosas. Jesús ante el tribunal

66 A s soon as it was day, the assembly of the elders of the people gathered together, both chief priests and scribes; and they led Him into their council (the Sanhedrin), and they said,

Cuando se hizo de día, se juntaron los ancianos del pueblo, los principales sacerdotes y los escribas, y llevaron a Jesús ante el tribunal y le preguntaron:

67 I f You are the Christ (the Messiah), tell us. But He said to them, If I tell you, you will not believe (trust in, cleave to, and rely on what I say),

«¿Eres tú el Cristo? ¡Responde!» Él les dijo: «Si les dijera que sí, no me lo creerían.

68 A nd if I question you, you will not answer.

Y si les hiciera preguntas, no me responderían ni me soltarían.

69 B ut hereafter (from this time on), the Son of Man shall be seated at the right hand of the power of God.

Pero a partir de este momento el Hijo del Hombre se sentará a la derecha del poder de Dios.»

70 A nd they all said, You are the Son of God, then? And He said to them, It is just as you say; I Am.

Todos dijeron: «¿Así que tú eres el Hijo de Dios?» Él les respondió: «Ustedes dicen que lo soy.»

71 A nd they said, What further evidence do we need? For we have heard ourselves from His own mouth!

Entonces ellos dijeron: «¿Qué más pruebas necesitamos? ¡Nosotros mismos las hemos oído de sus propios labios!»
