1 N ow the Festival of Unleavened Bread was drawing near, which is called the Passover.

Наближалося ж свято Опрісноків, що Пасхою зветься.

2 A nd the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how to do away with, for they feared the people.

А первосвященики й книжники стали шукати, як би вбити Його, та боялись народу...

3 B ut Satan entered into Judas, called Iscariot, who was one of the Twelve.

Сатана ж увійшов у Юду, званого Іскаріот, одного з Дванадцятьох.

4 A nd he went away and discussed with the chief priests and captains how he might betray Him and deliver Him up to them.

І він пішов, і почав умовлятися з первосвящениками та начальниками, як він видасть Його.

5 A nd they were delighted and pledged to give him money.

Ті ж зраділи, і погодилися дати йому срібняків.

6 S o he agreed, and sought an opportunity to betray Him to them in the absence of the throng.

І він обіцяв, і шукав відповідного часу, щоб їм видати Його без народу...

7 T hen came the day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover had to be slain.

І настав день Опрісноків, коли пасху приносити в жертву належало.

8 S o Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare for us the Passover meal, that we may eat it.

І послав Він Петра та Івана, говорячи: Підіть, і приготуйте нам пасху, щоб її спожили ми.

9 T hey said to Him, Where do You want us to prepare ?

А вони запитали Його: Де Ти хочеш, щоб ми приготували?

10 H e said to them, Behold, when you have gone into the city, a man carrying an earthen jug or pitcher of water will meet you; follow him into the house which he enters,

А Він їм відказав: Ось, як будете входити в місто, стріне вас чоловік, воду несучи у глекові, ідіть за ним аж до дому, куди він увійде.

11 A nd say to the master of the house, The Teacher asks you, Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with My disciples?

І скажіть до господаря дому: Учитель питає тебе: Де кімната, в якій споживу зо Своїми учнями пасху?

12 A nd he will show you a large room upstairs, furnished; there make preparations.

І він вам покаже велику горницю вистелену: там приготуйте.

13 A nd they went and found it as He had said to them; and they made ready the Passover.

І вони відійшли, і знайшли, як Він їм говорив, і зачали там готувати пасху.

14 A nd when the hour came, reclined at table, and the apostles with Him.

А коли настав час, сів до столу, і апостоли з Ним.

15 A nd He said to them, I have earnestly and intensely desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer;

І промовив до них: Я дуже бажав спожити цю пасху із вами, перш ніж муки прийму.

16 F or I say to you, I shall eat it no more until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.

Бо кажу вам, що вже споживати не буду її, поки сповниться в Божому Царстві вона.

17 A nd He took a cup, and when He had given thanks, He said, Take this and divide and distribute it among yourselves;

Узявши ж чашу, і вчинивши подяку, Він промовив: Візьміть її, і поділіть між собою.

18 F or I say to you that from now on I shall not drink of the fruit of the vine at all until the kingdom of God comes.

Кажу ж вам, що віднині не питиму Я від оцього плоду виноградного, доки Божеє Царство не прийде.

19 T hen He took a loaf, and when He had given thanks, He broke and gave it to them saying, This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.

Узявши ж хліб і вчинивши подяку, поламав і дав їм, проказуючи: Це тіло Моє, що за вас віддається. Це чиніть на спомин про Мене!

20 A nd in like manner, He took the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament or covenant in My blood, which is shed (poured out) for you.

По вечері так само ж і чашу, говорячи: Оця чаша Новий Заповіт у Моїй крові, що за вас проливається.

21 B ut, behold, the hand of him who is now engaged in betraying Me is with Me on the table.

Та однак, за столом ось зо Мною рука Мого зрадника.

22 F or the Son of Man is going as it has been determined and appointed, but woe to that man by whom He is betrayed and delivered up!

Бо Син Людський іде, як призначено; але горе тому чоловікові, хто Його видає!

23 A nd they began to inquire among themselves which of them it was who was about to do this.

А вони почали між собою питати, котрий з них мав би це вчинити?

24 N ow an eager contention arose among them which of them was considered and reputed to be the greatest.

І сталось між ними й змагання, котрий з них уважатися має за більшого.

25 B ut Jesus said to them, The kings of the Gentiles are deified by them and exercise lordship '> ruling as emperor-gods] over them; and those in authority over them are called benefactors and well-doers.

Він же промовив до них: Царі народів панують над ними, а ті, що ними володіють, доброчинцями звуться.

26 B ut this is not to be so with you; on the contrary, let him who is the greatest among you become like the youngest, and him who is the chief and leader like one who serves.

Але не так ви: хто найбільший між вами, нехай буде, як менший, а начальник як службовець.

27 F or who is the greater, the one who reclines at table (the master), or the one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at table? But I am in your midst as One Who serves.

Бо хто більший: чи той, хто сидить при столі, чи хто прислуговує? Чи не той, хто сидить при столі? А Я серед вас, як службовець.

28 A nd you are those who have remained and persevered with Me in My trials;

Ви ж оті, що перетривали зо Мною в спокусах Моїх,

29 A nd as My Father has appointed a kingdom and conferred it on Me, so do I confer on you,

і Я вам заповітую Царство, як Отець Мій Мені заповів,

30 T hat you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

щоб ви в Царстві Моїм споживали й пили за столом Моїм, і щоб ви на престолах засіли судити дванадцять племен Ізраїлевих.

31 S imon, Simon (Peter), listen! Satan has asked excessively that you be given up to him, that he might sift you like grain,

І промовив Господь: Симоне, Симоне, ось сатана жадав вас, щоб вас пересіяти, мов ту пшеницю.

32 B ut I have prayed especially for you, that your faith may not fail; and when you yourself have turned again, strengthen and establish your brethren.

Я ж молився за тебе, щоб не зменшилась віра твоя; ти ж колись, як навернешся, зміцни браттю свою!

33 A nd said to Him, Lord, I am ready to go with You both to prison and to death.

А той відказав Йому: Господи, я з Тобою готовий іти до в'язниці й на смерть!

34 B ut Jesus said, I tell you, Peter, before a cock shall crow this day, you will three times deny that you know Me.

Він же прорік: Говорю тобі, Петре, півень не заспіває сьогодні, як ти тричі зречешся, що не знаєш Мене...

35 A nd He said to them, When I sent you out with no purse or bag or sandals, did you lack anything? They answered, Nothing!

І Він їм сказав: Як Я вас посилав без калитки, і без торби, і без сандаль, чи вам бракувало чого? Вони ж відказали: Нічого.

36 T hen He said to them, But now let him who has a purse take it, and also bag; and let him who has no sword sell his mantle and buy a sword.

А тепер каже їм хто має калитку, нехай візьме, теж і торбу; хто ж не має, нехай продасть одіж свою та й купить меча.

37 F or I tell you that this Scripture must yet be fulfilled in Me: And He was counted and classed among the wicked (the outlaws, the criminals); for what is written about Me has its fulfillment.

Говорю бо Я вам, що виконатися на Мені має й це ось написане: До злочинців Його зараховано. Бо те, що про Мене, виконується.

38 A nd they said, Look, Lord! Here are two swords. And He said to them, It is enough.

І сказали вони: Господи, ось тут два мечі. А Він їм відказав: Досить!

39 A nd He came out and went, as was His habit, to the Mount of Olives, and the disciples also followed Him.

І Він вийшов, і пішов за звичаєм на гору Оливну. А за Ним пішли учні Його.

40 A nd when He came to the place, He said to them, Pray that you may not enter into temptation.

А прийшовши на місце, сказав їм: Моліться, щоб не впасти в спокусу.

41 A nd He withdrew from them about a stone’s throw and knelt down and prayed,

А Він Сам, відійшовши від них, як докинути каменем, на коліна припав та й молився,

42 S aying, Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me; yet not My will, but '> always] Yours be done.

благаючи: Отче, як волієш, пронеси мимо Мене цю чашу! Та проте не Моя, а Твоя нехай станеться воля!...

43 A nd there appeared to Him an angel from heaven, strengthening Him in spirit.

І Ангол із неба з'явився до Нього, і додавав Йому сили.

44 A nd being in an agony, He prayed more earnestly and intently, and His sweat became like great clots of blood dropping down upon the ground.

А як був у смертельній тривозі, ще пильніш Він молився. І піт Його став, немов каплі крови, що спливали на землю...

45 A nd when He got up from prayer, He came to the disciples and found them sleeping from grief,

І, підвівшись з молитви, Він до учнів прийшов, і знайшов їх, що спали з журби...

46 A nd He said to them, Why do you sleep? Get up and pray that you may not enter into temptation.

І промовив до них: Чого ви спите? Уставайте й моліться, щоб не впасти в спокусу!

47 A nd while He was still speaking, behold, there came a crowd, and the man called Judas, one of the Twelve, was going before them. He drew near to Jesus to kiss Him,

І, коли Він іще говорив, ось народ з'явився, і один із Дванадцятьох, що Юдою зветься, ішов перед ними. І він підійшов до Ісуса, щоб поцілувати Його. Бо він знака їм дав був: кого я поцілую, то Він!

48 B ut Jesus said to him, Judas! Would you betray and deliver up the Son of Man with a kiss?

Ісус же промовив до нього: Чи оце поцілунком ти, Юдо, видаєш Сина Людського?

49 A nd when those who were around Him saw what was about to happen, they said, Lord, shall we strike with the sword?

А ті, що були з Ним, як побачили, що має статись, сказали Йому: Господи, чи мечем нам не вдарити?

50 A nd one of them struck the bond servant of the high priest and cut off his ear, the right one.

І, один із них рубонув раба первосвященикового, та й відтяв праве вухо йому.

51 B ut Jesus said, Permit them to go so far. And He touched the little (insignificant) ear and healed him.

Та Ісус відізвався й сказав: Лишіть, уже досить! І, доторкнувшись до вуха його, уздоровив його.

52 T hen Jesus said to those who had come out against Him—the chief priests and captains of the temple and elders —Have you come out with swords and clubs as against a robber?

А до первосвящеників і влади сторожі храму та старших, що прийшли проти Нього, промовив Ісус: Немов на розбійника вийшли з мечами та киями...

53 W hen I was with you day after day in the temple '> enclosure], you did not stretch forth hands against Me. But this is your hour—and the power darkness.

Як щоденно Я з вами у храмі бував, не піднесли на Мене ви рук. Та це ваша година тепер, і влада темряви...

54 T hen they seized Him and led Him away, bringing Him into the house of the high priest. Peter was following at a distance.

А схопивши Його, повели й привели у дім первосвященика. Петро ж здалека йшов слідкома.

55 A nd when they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and were seated together, Peter sat among them.

Як розклали ж огонь серед двору, і вкупі сиділи, сидів і Петро поміж ними.

56 T hen a servant girl, seeing him as he sat in the firelight and gazing at him, said, This man too was with Him.

А служниця одна його вгледіла, як сидів коло світла, і, придивившись до нього, сказала: І цей був із Ним!

57 B ut he denied it and said, Woman, I do not know Him!

І відрікся від Нього він, твердячи: Не знаю я, жінко, Його!

58 A nd a little later someone else saw him and said, You are one of them also. But Peter said, Man, I am not!

Незабаром же другий побачив його та й сказав: І ти від отих. А Петро відказав: Ні, чоловіче!...

59 A nd when about an hour more had elapsed, still another emphatically insisted, It is the truth that this man also was with Him, for he too is a Galilean!

І як часу минуло з годину, хтось інший твердив і казав: Поправді, і цей був із Ним, бо він галілеянин.

60 B ut Peter said, Man, I do not know what you are talking about. And instantly, while he was still speaking, the cock crowed.

А Петро відказав: Чоловіче, не відаю, про що ти говориш... І зараз, як іще говорив він, півень заспівав.

61 A nd the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter recalled the Lord’s words, how He had told him, Before the cock crows today, you will deny Me thrice.

І Господь обернувся й подививсь на Петра. А Петро згадав слово Господнє, як сказав Він йому: Перше, ніж заспіває півень, відречешся ти тричі від Мене.

62 A nd he went out and wept bitterly.

І, вийшовши звідти, він гірко заплакав!

63 N ow the men who had Jesus in custody treated Him with contempt and scoffed at and ridiculed Him and beat Him;

А люди, які ув'язнили Ісуса, знущалися з Нього та били.

64 T hey blindfolded Him also and asked Him, Prophesy! Who is it that struck You?

І, закривши Його, вони били Його по обличчі, і питали Його, приговорюючи: Пророкуй, хто то вдарив Тебе?

65 A nd they said many other evil and slanderous and insulting words against Him, reviling Him.

І багато інших богозневаг говорили на Нього вони...

66 A s soon as it was day, the assembly of the elders of the people gathered together, both chief priests and scribes; and they led Him into their council (the Sanhedrin), and they said,

А коли настав день, то зібралися старші народу, первосвященики й книжники, і повели Його в синедріон свій,

67 I f You are the Christ (the Messiah), tell us. But He said to them, If I tell you, you will not believe (trust in, cleave to, and rely on what I say),

і казали: Коли Ти Христос, скажи нам. А Він їм відповів: Коли Я вам скажу, не повірите ви.

68 A nd if I question you, you will not answer.

А коли й поспитаю вас Я, не дасте Мені відповіді.

69 B ut hereafter (from this time on), the Son of Man shall be seated at the right hand of the power of God.

Незабаром Син Людський сидітиме по правиці сили Божої!

70 A nd they all said, You are the Son of God, then? And He said to them, It is just as you say; I Am.

Тоді всі запитали: То Ти Божий Син? А Він їм відповів: Самі кажете ви, що то Я...

71 A nd they said, What further evidence do we need? For we have heard ourselves from His own mouth!

А вони відказали: Нащо потрібні ще свідки для нас? Бо ми чули самі з Його уст!
