1 A lso told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not to turn coward (faint, lose heart, and give up).

І Він розповів їм і притчу про те, що треба молитися завжди, і не занепадати духом,

2 H e said, In a certain city there was a judge who neither reverenced and feared God nor respected or considered man.

говорячи: У місті якомусь суддя був один, що Бога не боявся, і людей не соромився.

3 A nd there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, Protect and defend and give me justice against my adversary.

У тому ж місті вдова перебувала, що до нього ходила й казала: Оборони мене від мого супротивника!

4 A nd for a time he would not; but later he said to himself, Though I have neither reverence or fear for God nor respect or consideration for man,

Але він довгий час не хотів. А згодом сказав сам до себе: Хоч і Бога я не боюся, і людей не соромлюся,

5 Y et because this widow continues to bother me, I will defend and protect and avenge her, lest she give me intolerable annoyance and wear me out by her continual coming or at the last she come and rail on me or assault me or strangle me.

але через те, що вдовиця оця докучає мені, то візьму в оборону її, щоб вона без кінця не ходила, і не докучала мені.

6 T hen the Lord said, Listen to what the unjust judge says!

І промовив Господь: Чи чуєте, що говорить суддя цей неправедний?

7 A nd will not God defend and protect and avenge His elect (His chosen ones), who cry to Him day and night? Will He defer them and delay help on their behalf?

А чи ж Бог в оборону не візьме обраних Своїх, що голосять до Нього день і ніч, хоч і бариться Він щодо них?

8 I tell you, He will defend and protect and avenge them speedily. However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find '> persistence in] faith on the earth?

Кажу вам, що Він їм незабаром подасть оборону! Та Син Людський, як прийде, чи Він на землі знайде віру?...

9 H e also told this parable to some people who trusted in themselves and were confident that they were righteous and scorned and made nothing of all the rest of men:

А для деяких, що були себе певні, що вони ніби праведні, і за ніщо мали інших, Він притчу оцю розповів.

10 T wo men went up into the temple '> enclosure] to pray, the one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.

Два чоловіки до храму ввійшли помолитись, один фарисей, а другий був митник.

11 T he Pharisee took his stand ostentatiously and began to pray thus before and with himself: God, I thank You that I am not like the rest of men—extortioners (robbers), swindlers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector here.

Фарисей, ставши, так молився про себе: Дякую, Боже, Тобі, що я не такий, як інші люди: здирщики, неправедні, перелюбні, або як цей митник.

12 I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I gain.

Я пощу два рази на тиждень, даю десятину з усього, що тільки надбаю!

13 B ut the tax collector, standing at a distance, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but kept striking his breast, saying, O God, be favorable (be gracious, be merciful) to me, the especially wicked sinner that I am!

А митник здалека стояв, та й очей навіть звести до неба не смів, але бив себе в груди й казав: Боже, будь милостивий до мене грішного!...

14 I tell you, this man went down to his home justified (forgiven and made upright and in right standing with God), rather than the other man; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.

Говорю вам, що цей повернувся до дому свого більш виправданий, аніж той. Бо кожен, хто підноситься, буде понижений, хто ж понижається, той піднесеться.

15 N ow they were also bringing babies to Him that He might touch them, and when the disciples noticed it, they reproved them.

До Нього ж приносили й немовлят, щоб до них доторкнувся, а учні, побачивши, їм докоряли.

16 B ut Jesus called them '> the parents] to Him, saying, Allow the little children to come to Me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God.

А Ісус їх покликав та й каже: Пустіте дітей, щоб до Мене приходили, і не забороняйте їм, бо таких Царство Боже.

17 T ruly I say to you, whoever does not accept and receive and welcome the kingdom of God like a little child shall not in any way enter it.

Поправді кажу вам: Хто Божого Царства не прийме, як дитя, той у нього не ввійде!

18 A nd a certain ruler asked Him, Good Teacher '> essentially and perfectly morally good], what shall I do to inherit eternal life ?

І запитався Його один із начальників, говорячи: Учителю Добрий, що робити мені, щоб вспадкувати вічне життя?

19 J esus said to him, Why do you call Me '> essentially and perfectly morally] good? No one is '> essentially and perfectly morally] good—except God only.

Ісус же йому відказав: Чого звеш Мене Добрим? Ніхто не є Добрий, тільки Сам Бог!

20 Y ou know the commandments: Do not commit adultery, do not kill, do not steal, do not witness falsely, honor your father and your mother.

Знаєш заповіді: Не чини перелюбу, не вбивай, не кради, не свідкуй неправдиво, шануй свого батька та матір.

21 A nd he replied, All these I have kept from my youth.

А він відказав: Усе це я виконав від юнацтва свого!

22 A nd when Jesus heard it, He said to him, One thing you still lack. Sell everything that you have and divide among the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come back follow Me.

Як почув це Ісус, то промовив до нього: Одного тобі ще бракує: Розпродай усе, що ти маєш, і вбогим роздай, і матимеш скарб свій на небі. Вертайся тоді, та й іди вслід за Мною!

23 B ut when he heard this, he became distressed and very sorrowful, for he was rich—exceedingly so.

А він, коли почув це, то засумував, бо був вельми багатий.

24 J esus, observing him, said, How difficult it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!

Як побачив Ісус, що той засумував, то промовив: Як тяжко багатим увійти в Царство Боже!

25 F or it is easier for a camel to enter through a needle’s eye than a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.

Бо верблюдові легше пройти через голчине вушко, ніж багатому в Божеє Царство ввійти...

26 A nd those who heard it said, Then who can be saved?

Ті ж, що чули, спитали: Хто ж тоді може спастися?

27 B ut He said, What is impossible with men is possible with God.

А Він відповів: Неможливеє людям можливе для Бога!

28 A nd Peter said, See, we have left our own and have followed You.

І промовив Петро: От усе ми покинули, та й пішли за Тобою слідом.

29 A nd He said to them, I say to you truly, there is no one who has left house or wife or brothers or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God

А Ісус відказав їм: Поправді кажу вам: Немає такого, щоб покинув свій дім, або дружину, чи братів, чи батьків, чи дітей ради Божого Царства,

30 W ho will not receive in return many times more in this world and, in the coming age, eternal life.

і не одержав би значно більш цього часу, а в віці наступнім життя вічне.

31 T hen taking the Twelve aside, He said to them, Listen! We are going up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written about the Son of Man through and by the prophets will be fulfilled.

І, взявши Дванадцятьох, промовив до них: Оце в Єрусалим ми йдемо, і все здійсниться, що писали Пророки про Людського Сина.

32 F or He will be handed over to the Gentiles and will be made sport of and scoffed and jeered at and insulted and spit upon.

Бо Він виданий буде поганам, і буде осміяний, і покривджений, і опльований,

33 T hey will flog Him and kill Him; and on the third day He will rise again.

і, збичувавши, уб'ють Його, але третього дня Він воскресне!

34 B ut they understood nothing of these things; His words were a mystery and hidden from them, and they did not comprehend what He was telling them.

Та з цього нічого вони не збагнули, і ця річ перед ними закрита була, і сказаного вони не розуміли.

35 A s He came near to Jericho, it occurred that a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging.

І сталось, як Він наближався був до Єрихону, один невидющий сидів при дорозі й просив.

36 A nd hearing a crowd going by, he asked what it meant.

А коли він прочув, що проходить народ, то спитався: Що це таке?

37 T hey told him, Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.

А йому відказали, що проходить Ісус Назарянин.

38 A nd he shouted, saying, Jesus, Son of David, take pity and have mercy on me!

І став він кричати й казати: Ісусе, Сину Давидів, змилуйся надо мною!

39 B ut those who were in front reproved him, telling him to keep quiet; yet he screamed and shrieked so much the more, Son of David, take pity and have mercy on me!

А ті, що попереду йшли, сварились на нього, щоб він замовк, а він іще більше кричав: Сину Давидів, змилуйся надо мною!

40 T hen Jesus stood still and ordered that he be led to Him; and when he came near, Jesus asked him,

І спинився Ісус, і привести його до Себе звелів. А коли той наблизивсь до Нього, то Він запитався його:

41 W hat do you want Me to do for you? He said, Lord, let me receive my sight!

Що ти хочеш, щоб зробив Я тобі? А той відповів: Господи, нехай стану видющим!

42 A nd Jesus said to him, Receive your sight! Your faith ( your trust and confidence that spring from your faith in God) has healed you.

Ісус же до нього сказав. Стань видющий! Твоя віра спасла тебе!

43 A nd instantly he received his sight and began to follow Jesus, recognizing, praising, and honoring God; and all the people, when they saw it, praised God.

І зараз видющим той став, і пішов вслід за Ним, прославляючи Бога. А всі люди, бачивши це, віддали хвалу Богові.
