1 A lso told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not to turn coward (faint, lose heart, and give up).

Propose loro una parabola per mostrare che dovevano pregare sempre e non stancarsi:

2 H e said, In a certain city there was a judge who neither reverenced and feared God nor respected or considered man.

«In una certa città vi era un giudice, che non temeva Dio e non aveva rispetto per nessuno;

3 A nd there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, Protect and defend and give me justice against my adversary.

e in quella città vi era una vedova, la quale andava da lui e diceva: “Rendimi giustizia sul mio avversario”.

4 A nd for a time he would not; but later he said to himself, Though I have neither reverence or fear for God nor respect or consideration for man,

Egli per qualche tempo non volle farlo; ma poi disse fra sé: “Benché io non tema Dio e non abbia rispetto per nessuno,

5 Y et because this widow continues to bother me, I will defend and protect and avenge her, lest she give me intolerable annoyance and wear me out by her continual coming or at the last she come and rail on me or assault me or strangle me.

pure, poiché questa vedova continua a importunarmi, le renderò giustizia, perché, venendo a insistere, non finisca per rompermi la testa”».

6 T hen the Lord said, Listen to what the unjust judge says!

Il Signore disse: «Ascoltate quel che dice il giudice ingiusto.

7 A nd will not God defend and protect and avenge His elect (His chosen ones), who cry to Him day and night? Will He defer them and delay help on their behalf?

Dio non renderà dunque giustizia ai suoi eletti che giorno e notte gridano a lui? Tarderà nei loro confronti?

8 I tell you, He will defend and protect and avenge them speedily. However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find '> persistence in] faith on the earth?

Io vi dico che renderà giustizia con prontezza. Ma quando il Figlio dell’uomo verrà, troverà la fede sulla terra?» Il fariseo e il pubblicano

9 H e also told this parable to some people who trusted in themselves and were confident that they were righteous and scorned and made nothing of all the rest of men:

Disse ancora questa parabola per certuni che erano persuasi di essere giusti e disprezzavano gli altri:

10 T wo men went up into the temple '> enclosure] to pray, the one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.

«Due uomini salirono al tempio per pregare; uno era fariseo e l’altro pubblicano.

11 T he Pharisee took his stand ostentatiously and began to pray thus before and with himself: God, I thank You that I am not like the rest of men—extortioners (robbers), swindlers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector here.

Il fariseo, stando in piedi, pregava così dentro di sé: “O Dio, ti ringrazio che io non sono come gli altri uomini, ladri, ingiusti, adùlteri; neppure come questo pubblicano.

12 I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I gain.

Io digiuno due volte la settimana, pago la decima su tutto quello che possiedo”.

13 B ut the tax collector, standing at a distance, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but kept striking his breast, saying, O God, be favorable (be gracious, be merciful) to me, the especially wicked sinner that I am!

Ma il pubblicano se ne stava a distanza e non osava neppure alzare gli occhi al cielo; ma si batteva il petto, dicendo: “O Dio, abbi pietà di me, peccatore!”

14 I tell you, this man went down to his home justified (forgiven and made upright and in right standing with God), rather than the other man; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.

Io vi dico che questo tornò a casa sua giustificato, piuttosto che quello; perché chiunque s’innalza sarà abbassato, ma chi si abbassa sarà innalzato». Gesù benedice i bambini

15 N ow they were also bringing babies to Him that He might touch them, and when the disciples noticed it, they reproved them.

Portavano a Gesù anche i bambini, perché li toccasse; ma i discepoli, vedendo ciò, li sgridavano.

16 B ut Jesus called them '> the parents] to Him, saying, Allow the little children to come to Me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God.

Allora Gesù li chiamò a sé e disse: «Lasciate che i bambini vengano a me, e non glielo vietate, perché il regno di Dio è di chi è come loro.

17 T ruly I say to you, whoever does not accept and receive and welcome the kingdom of God like a little child shall not in any way enter it.

In verità vi dico: chiunque non avrà ricevuto il regno di Dio come un bambino, non vi entrerà affatto». Il giovane ricco

18 A nd a certain ruler asked Him, Good Teacher '> essentially and perfectly morally good], what shall I do to inherit eternal life ?

Uno dei capi lo interrogò, dicendo: «Maestro buono, che devo fare per ereditare la vita eterna?»

19 J esus said to him, Why do you call Me '> essentially and perfectly morally] good? No one is '> essentially and perfectly morally] good—except God only.

Gesù gli disse: «Perché mi chiami buono? Nessuno è buono, tranne uno solo, cioè Dio.

20 Y ou know the commandments: Do not commit adultery, do not kill, do not steal, do not witness falsely, honor your father and your mother.

Tu conosci i comandamenti: Non commettere adulterio; non uccidere; non rubare; non dir falsa testimonianza; onora tuo padre e tua madre ».

21 A nd he replied, All these I have kept from my youth.

Ed egli rispose: «Tutte queste cose io le ho osservate fin dalla gioventù».

22 A nd when Jesus heard it, He said to him, One thing you still lack. Sell everything that you have and divide among the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come back follow Me.

Gesù, udito questo, gli disse: «Una cosa ti manca ancora: vendi tutto quello che hai e distribuiscilo ai poveri, e avrai un tesoro nei cieli; poi vieni e seguimi».

23 B ut when he heard this, he became distressed and very sorrowful, for he was rich—exceedingly so.

Ma egli, udite queste cose, ne fu afflitto, perché era molto ricco.

24 J esus, observing him, said, How difficult it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!

Gesù, vedendolo {così triste}, disse: «Quanto è difficile, per quelli che hanno delle ricchezze, entrare nel regno di Dio!

25 F or it is easier for a camel to enter through a needle’s eye than a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.

Perché è più facile per un cammello passare attraverso la cruna di un ago, che per un ricco entrare nel regno di Dio».

26 A nd those who heard it said, Then who can be saved?

Quelli che udirono dissero: «Chi dunque può essere salvato?»

27 B ut He said, What is impossible with men is possible with God.

Egli rispose: «Le cose impossibili agli uomini sono possibili a Dio».

28 A nd Peter said, See, we have left our own and have followed You.

Pietro disse: «Ecco, noi abbiamo lasciato le nostre cose e ti abbiamo seguito».

29 A nd He said to them, I say to you truly, there is no one who has left house or wife or brothers or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God

Ed egli disse loro: «Vi dico in verità che non c’è nessuno che abbia lasciato casa, o moglie, o fratelli, o genitori, o figli a causa del regno di Dio,

30 W ho will not receive in return many times more in this world and, in the coming age, eternal life.

il quale non ne riceva molte volte tanto in questo tempo e, nell’età futura, la vita eterna». Gesù predice per la terza volta la Passione

31 T hen taking the Twelve aside, He said to them, Listen! We are going up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written about the Son of Man through and by the prophets will be fulfilled.

Poi prese con sé i dodici e disse loro: «Ecco, noi saliamo a Gerusalemme, e saranno compiute riguardo al Figlio dell’uomo tutte le cose scritte dai profeti.

32 F or He will be handed over to the Gentiles and will be made sport of and scoffed and jeered at and insulted and spit upon.

Infatti egli sarà consegnato ai pagani, e sarà schernito e oltraggiato e gli sputeranno addosso;

33 T hey will flog Him and kill Him; and on the third day He will rise again.

e, dopo averlo flagellato, lo uccideranno; ma il terzo giorno risusciterà».

34 B ut they understood nothing of these things; His words were a mystery and hidden from them, and they did not comprehend what He was telling them.

Ed essi non capirono nulla di tutto questo; quel discorso era per loro oscuro e non capivano ciò che Gesù voleva dire. Gesù guarisce un cieco

35 A s He came near to Jericho, it occurred that a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging.

Come egli si avvicinava a Gerico, un cieco che sedeva presso la strada, mendicando,

36 A nd hearing a crowd going by, he asked what it meant.

udì la folla che passava e domandò che cosa fosse.

37 T hey told him, Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.

Gli fecero sapere che passava Gesù il Nazareno.

38 A nd he shouted, saying, Jesus, Son of David, take pity and have mercy on me!

Allora egli gridò: «Gesù, Figlio di Davide, abbi pietà di me!»

39 B ut those who were in front reproved him, telling him to keep quiet; yet he screamed and shrieked so much the more, Son of David, take pity and have mercy on me!

E quelli che precedevano lo sgridavano perché tacesse; ma lui gridava più forte: «Figlio di Davide, abbi pietà di me!»

40 T hen Jesus stood still and ordered that he be led to Him; and when he came near, Jesus asked him,

Gesù, fermatosi, comandò che il cieco fosse condotto a lui; e, quando gli fu vicino, gli domandò:

41 W hat do you want Me to do for you? He said, Lord, let me receive my sight!

«Che vuoi che io ti faccia?» Egli disse: «Signore, che io recuperi la vista».

42 A nd Jesus said to him, Receive your sight! Your faith ( your trust and confidence that spring from your faith in God) has healed you.

E Gesù gli disse: «Recupera la vista; la tua fede ti ha salvato».

43 A nd instantly he received his sight and began to follow Jesus, recognizing, praising, and honoring God; and all the people, when they saw it, praised God.

Nello stesso momento recuperò la vista, e lo seguiva glorificando Dio; e tutto il popolo, visto ciò, diede lode a Dio.
