1 A lso you, son of man, prophesy to the mountains of Israel and say, You mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord.

«Tu, figlio d’uomo, profetizza ai monti d’Israele e di’: O monti d’Israele, ascoltate la parola del Signore!

2 T hus says the Lord God: Because the enemy has said over you, Aha! and, The ancient heights have become our possession,

Così parla il Signore, Dio: “Poiché il nemico ha detto di voi: ‘Ah! ah! queste alture eterne sono diventate nostro possesso!’”, tu profetizza e di’:

3 T herefore prophesy and say, Thus says the Lord God: Because, yes, because they made you a desolation, and they snapped after and crushed you from every side so that you became the possession of the rest of the nations and you became the talk and evil gossip of the people,

Così parla il Signore, Dio: “Sì, poiché da tutte le parti hanno voluto distruggervi e inghiottirvi, perché diventaste possesso del resto delle nazioni, e perché siete stati oggetto dei discorsi delle male lingue e delle maldicenze della gente,

4 T herefore, O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord God: Thus says the Lord God to the mountains and hills, to the ravines and valleys, to the desolate wastes and the cities that are forsaken, that have become a prey and derision to the rest of the nations that are round about;

o monti d’Israele, ascoltate la parola del Signore, Dio!” – così parla il Signore, Dio, ai monti e ai colli, ai burroni e alle valli, alle rovine desolate e alle città abbandonate, che sono state date in balìa del saccheggio e delle beffe delle altre nazioni circostanti –

5 T herefore thus says the Lord God: Surely in the fire of My hot jealousy have I spoken against the rest of the nations and against all Edom, who have given to themselves My land with wholehearted joy and with uttermost contempt, that they might empty it out and possess it for a prey and a spoil.

così parla il Signore, Dio: “Sì, nel fuoco della mia gelosia, io parlo contro il resto delle altre nazioni e contro Edom tutto quanto, che hanno fatto del mio paese il loro possesso con tutta la gioia del cuore e il disprezzo dell’anima, per ridurlo in bottino”.

6 P rophesy therefore concerning the land of Israel and say to the mountains and hills, to the ravines and valleys, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I have spoken in My jealousy and in My wrath because you have suffered the shame and reproach of the nations;

Perciò, profetizza sopra la terra d’Israele e di’ ai monti e ai colli, ai burroni e alle valli: Così parla il Signore, Dio: “Ecco, io parlo nella mia gelosia e nel mio furore, perché voi avete portato la vergogna delle nazioni”.

7 T herefore thus says the Lord God: I have lifted up My hand and sworn, Surely the nations that are round about you shall themselves suffer shame and reproach.

Perciò, così parla il Signore, Dio: “Io l’ho giurato! Le nazioni che vi circondano porteranno anch’esse la propria vergogna;

8 B ut you, O mountains of Israel, shall shoot forth your branches and yield your fruit to My people Israel, for they are soon to come.

ma voi, o monti d’Israele, metterete i vostri rami e porterete i vostri frutti al mio popolo Israele, perché egli sta per arrivare.

9 F or behold, I am for you and I will turn to you; and you shall be tilled and sown,

Infatti, ecco, io vengo a voi, mi volgerò verso di voi e voi sarete coltivati e seminati;

10 A nd I will multiply men upon you, the whole house of Israel, even all of it; the cities shall be inhabited and the waste places shall be rebuilt,

io moltiplicherò su di voi gli uomini, tutta quanta la casa d’Israele; le città saranno abitate e le rovine saranno ricostruite.

11 A nd I will multiply upon you man and beast, and they shall increase and be fruitful. And I will cause you to be inhabited according to your former estate and I will do better for you than at your beginnings; and you shall know, understand, and realize that I am the Lord.

Moltiplicherò su di voi uomini e bestie; essi si moltiplicheranno e cresceranno e farò in modo che sarete abitati com’eravate prima; vi farò del bene più che nei vostri primi tempi, e voi conoscerete che io sono il Signore.

12 Y es, I will cause men to walk upon you, even My people Israel, and they shall possess you, and you shall be their inheritance; and you shall no more after this bereave them of children.

Io farò camminare su di voi degli uomini, il mio popolo Israele. Essi ti possederanno, o paese; tu sarai la loro eredità e non li priverai più dei loro figli”.

13 T hus says the Lord God: Because they say to you, You are a devourer of men and have bereaved your nation of children,

Così parla il Signore, Dio: “Poiché vi si dice: ‘Tu, o paese, hai divorato gli uomini, hai privato la tua nazione dei suoi figli’,

14 T herefore you shall devour men no more, neither bereave your nation or cause it to stumble any more, says the Lord God.

tu non divorerai più gli uomini, e non priverai più la tua nazione dei suoi figli”, dice il Signore, Dio.

15 N either will I let you hear any more the reproach of the nations, nor shall you suffer the dishonor of the peoples any more, nor shall you cause your nation to stumble and fall any more, says the Lord God.

“Io non ti farò più udire gli oltraggi delle nazioni, e tu non porterai più il disprezzo dei popoli, e non farai più cadere la tua gente”, dice il Signore, Dio ».

16 M oreover, the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

La parola del Signore mi fu rivolta in questi termini:

17 S on of man, when the house of Israel dwelt in their own land, they defiled it by their way and by their doings. Their conduct before Me was like the uncleanness of a woman during her impurity.

«Figlio d’uomo, quando quelli della casa d’Israele abitavano il loro paese, lo contaminavano con la loro condotta e con le loro azioni; la loro condotta era davanti a me come l’impurità della donna quando ha i suoi corsi.

18 S o I poured out My wrath upon them for the blood that they had shed upon the land and for their idols with which they had defiled it.

Perciò io riversai su di loro il mio furore, a motivo del sangue che avevano sparso sul paese e perché lo avevano contaminato con i loro idoli:

19 A nd I scattered them among the nations, and they were dispersed through the countries; according to their conduct and their deeds I judged and punished them.

Li dispersi fra le nazioni ed essi furono sparsi per tutti i paesi; io li giudicai secondo la loro condotta e secondo le loro azioni.

20 A nd when they came to the nations to which they went, they profaned My holy name in that men said of them, These are the people of the Lord, and yet they had to go forth out of His land.

E, giunti fra le nazioni dove sono andati, hanno profanato il mio nome santo, poiché si diceva di loro: “Costoro sono il popolo del Signore e sono usciti dal suo paese”.

21 B ut I had regard, concern, and compassion for My holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the nations to which they went.

Io ho avuto pietà del mio nome santo, che la casa d’Israele profanava fra le nazioni dov’è andata.

22 T herefore say to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord God: I do not do this for your sakes, O house of Israel, but for My holy name’s sake, which you have profaned among the nations to which you went.

«Perciò, di’ alla casa d’Israele: Così parla il Signore, Dio: “Io agisco così, non a causa di voi, o casa d’Israele, ma per amore del mio nome santo, che voi avete profanato fra le nazioni dove siete andati.

23 A nd I will vindicate the holiness of My great name and separate it for its holy purpose from all that defiles it—My name, which has been profaned among the nations, which you have profaned among them—and the nations will know, understand, and realize that I am the Lord, when I shall be set apart by you and My holiness vindicated in you before their eyes and yours.

Io santificherò il mio gran nome che è stato profanato fra le nazioni, in mezzo alle quali voi lo avete profanato; e le nazioni conosceranno che io sono il Signore ”, dice il Signore, Dio, “quando io mi santificherò in voi, sotto i loro occhi.

24 F or I will take you from among the nations and gather you out of all countries and bring you into your own land.

Io vi farò uscire dalle nazioni, vi radunerò da tutti i paesi e vi ricondurrò nel vostro paese;

25 T hen will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleanness; and from all your idols will I cleanse you.

vi aspergerò d’acqua pura e sarete puri; io vi purificherò di tutte le vostre impurità e di tutti i vostri idoli.

26 A new heart will I give you and a new spirit will I put within you, and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.

Vi darò un cuore nuovo e metterò dentro di voi uno spirito nuovo; toglierò dal vostro corpo il cuore di pietra e vi darò un cuore di carne.

27 A nd I will put my Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you shall heed My ordinances and do them.

Metterò dentro di voi il mio Spirito e farò in modo che camminiate secondo le mie leggi, e osserviate e mettiate in pratica le mie prescrizioni.

28 A nd you shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and you shall be My people, and I will be your God.

Abiterete nel paese che io diedi ai vostri padri, sarete il mio popolo, e io sarò il vostro Dio.

29 I will also save you from all your uncleannesses, and I will call forth the grain and make it abundant and lay no famine on you.

Io vi libererò da tutte le vostre impurità; chiamerò il frumento, lo farò abbondare e non manderò più contro di voi la fame;

30 A nd I will multiply the fruit of the tree and the increase of the field, that you may no more suffer the reproach and disgrace of famine among the nations.

farò moltiplicare il frutto degli alberi e il prodotto dei campi, affinché non siate più esposti alla vergogna della fame tra le nazioni.

31 T hen you shall remember your own evil ways and your doings that were not good, and shall loathe yourselves in your own sight for your iniquities and for your abominable deeds.

Allora vi ricorderete delle vostre vie malvagie e delle vostre azioni, che non erano buone, e avrete disgusto di voi stessi a motivo delle vostre iniquità e delle vostre abominazioni.

32 N ot for your sake do I do this, says the Lord God; let that be known to you. Be ashamed and confounded for your wicked ways, O house of Israel!

Non è per amor di voi che agisco così”, dice il Signore, Dio, “siatene certi! Vergognatevi, e siate confusi a motivo delle vostre vie, o casa d’Israele!”

33 T hus says the Lord God: In the day that I cleanse you from all your iniquities I will cause cities to be inhabited, and the waste places shall be rebuilt.

Così parla il Signore, Dio: “Il giorno che io vi purificherò di tutte le vostre iniquità, farò in modo che le città siano abitate e le rovine siano ricostruite;

34 A nd the desolate land shall be tilled, that which had lain desolate in the sight of all who passed by.

la terra desolata sarà coltivata, invece di essere una desolazione agli occhi di tutti i passanti.

35 A nd they shall say, This land that was desolate has become like the garden of Eden, and the waste and desolate and ruined cities are fortified and inhabited.

Si dirà: ‘Questa terra che era desolata è diventata come il giardino di Eden; e queste città che erano deserte, desolate, rovinate, sono fortificate e abitate’.

36 T hen the nations that are left round about you shall know that I the Lord have rebuilt the ruined places and replanted that which was desolate. I the Lord have spoken it, and I will do it.

Le nazioni che saranno rimaste attorno a voi conosceranno che io, il Signore, ho ricostruito i luoghi distrutti e ripiantato il luogo deserto. Io, il Signore, parlo e mando la cosa ad effetto”.

37 T hus says the Lord God: For this also I will let the house of Israel inquire of Me to do it for them; I will increase their men like a flock.

Così parla il Signore, Dio: “Anche in questo mi lascerò supplicare dalla casa d’Israele, e glielo concederò: io moltiplicherò loro gli uomini come un gregge.

38 L ike the flock of holy things for sacrifice, like the flock of Jerusalem in her appointed feasts, so shall the waste cities be filled with flocks of men; and they shall know, understand, and realize that I am the Lord.

Come greggi di pecore consacrate, come le greggi di Gerusalemme nelle sue feste solenni, così le città deserte saranno riempite di greggi d’uomini; e si conoscerà che io sono il Signore ”».
