1 M y God, my God, why have You forsaken me? Why are You so far from helping me, and from the words of my groaning?

2 O my God, I cry in the daytime, but You answer not; and by night I am not silent or find no rest.

Dio mio, io grido di giorno, ma tu non rispondi, e anche di notte, senza interruzione.

3 B ut You are holy, O You Who dwell in the praises of Israel.

Eppure tu sei il Santo, siedi circondato dalle lodi d’Israele.

4 O ur fathers trusted in You; they trusted (leaned on, relied on You, and were confident) and You delivered them.

I nostri padri confidarono in te; confidarono e tu li liberasti.

5 T hey cried to You and were delivered; they trusted in, leaned on, and confidently relied on You, and were not ashamed or confounded or disappointed.

Gridarono a te, e furono salvati; confidarono in te, e non furono delusi.

6 B ut I am a worm, and no man; I am the scorn of men, and despised by the people.

Ma io sono un verme e non un uomo, l’infamia degli uomini e il disprezzato dal popolo.

7 A ll who see me laugh at me and mock me; they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying,

Chiunque mi vede si fa beffe di me; allunga il labbro, scuote il capo, dicendo:

8 H e trusted and rolled himself on the Lord, that He would deliver him. Let Him deliver him, seeing that He delights in him!

«Egli si affida al Signore; lo liberi dunque; lo salvi, poiché lo gradisce!»

9 Y et You are He Who took me out of the womb; You made me hope and trust when I was on my mother’s breasts.

Sì, tu m’hai tratto dal grembo materno; m’hai fatto riposare fiducioso sulle mammelle di mia madre.

10 I was cast upon You from my very birth; from my mother’s womb You have been my God.

A te fui affidato fin dalla mia nascita, tu sei il mio Dio fin dal grembo di mia madre.

11 B e not far from me, for trouble is near and there is none to help.

Non allontanarti da me, perché l’angoscia è vicina e non c’è alcuno che mi aiuti.

12 M any bulls have surrounded me; strong bulls of Bashan have hedged me in.

Grossi tori m’hanno circondato; potenti tori di Basan m’hanno attorniato;

13 A gainst me they opened their mouths wide, like a ravening and roaring lion.

aprono la loro gola contro di me, come un leone rapace e ruggente.

14 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart is like wax; it is softened and melted down within me.

Io sono come acqua che si sparge e tutte le mie ossa sono slogate; il mio cuore è come la cera, si scioglie in mezzo alle mie viscere.

15 M y strength is dried up like a fragment of clay pottery; my tongue cleaves to my jaws; and You have brought me into the dust of death.

Il mio vigore s’inaridisce come terra cotta e la lingua mi si attacca al palato; tu m’hai posto nella polvere della morte.

16 F or dogs they have encompassed me; a company of evildoers has encircled me, they pierced my hands and my feet.

Poiché cani mi hanno circondato; una folla di malfattori m’ha attorniato; m’hanno forato le mani e i piedi.

17 I can count all my bones; gaze at me.

Posso contare tutte le mie ossa. Essi mi guardano e mi osservano:

18 T hey part my clothing among them and cast lots for my raiment (a long, shirtlike garment, a seamless undertunic). )

spartiscono fra loro le mie vesti e tirano a sorte la mia tunica.

19 B ut be not far from me, O Lord; O my Help, hasten to aid me!

Ma tu, Signore, non allontanarti, tu che sei la mia forza, affrèttati a soccorrermi.

20 D eliver my life from the sword, my dear life from the power of the dog.

Libera la mia vita dalla spada e salva l’unica vita mia dall’assalto del cane;

21 S ave me from the lion’s mouth; for You have answered me from the horns of the wild oxen.

salvami dalla gola del leone. Tu mi risponderai liberandomi dalle corna dei bufali.

22 I will declare Your name to my brethren; in the midst of the congregation will I praise You.

Io annuncerò il tuo nome ai miei fratelli, ti loderò in mezzo all’assemblea.

23 Y ou who fear (revere and worship) the Lord, praise Him! All you offspring of Jacob, glorify Him. Fear (revere and worship) Him, all you offspring of Israel.

O voi che temete il Signore, lodatelo! Voi tutti, discendenti di Giacobbe, glorificatelo, temetelo voi tutti, stirpe d’Israele!

24 F or He has not despised or abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither has He hidden His face from him, but when he cried to Him, He heard.

Poiché non ha disprezzato né sdegnato l’afflizione del sofferente, non gli ha nascosto il suo volto; ma quando quello ha gridato a lui, egli l’ha esaudito.

25 M y praise shall be of You in the great congregation. I will pay to Him my vows before them who fear (revere and worship) Him.

Tu sei l’argomento della mia lode nella grande assemblea; io adempirò i miei voti in presenza di quelli che ti temono.

26 T he poor and afflicted shall eat and be satisfied; they shall praise the Lord—they who seek for, inquire of and for Him, and require Him. May your hearts be quickened now and forever!

Gli umili mangeranno e saranno saziati; quelli che cercano il Signore lo loderanno; il loro cuore vivrà in eterno.

27 A ll the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the nations shall bow down and worship before You,

Tutte le estremità della terra si ricorderanno del Signore e si convertiranno a lui; tutte le famiglie delle nazioni adoreranno in tua presenza.

28 F or the kingship and the kingdom are the Lord’s, and He is the ruler over the nations.

Poiché al Signore appartiene il regno, egli domina sulle nazioni.

29 A ll the mighty ones upon earth shall eat and worship; all they that go down to the dust shall bow before Him, even he who cannot keep himself alive.

Tutti i potenti della terra mangeranno e adoreranno; tutti quelli che scendono nella polvere e non possono mantenersi in vita s’inchineranno davanti a lui.

30 P osterity shall serve Him; they shall tell of the Lord to the next generation.

La discendenza lo servirà; si parlerà del Signore alla generazione futura.

31 T hey shall come and shall declare His righteousness to a people yet to be born—that He has done it!

Essi verranno e proclameranno la sua giustizia, e al popolo che nascerà diranno come egli ha agito.
