1 A nd God remembered Noah and every living thing and all the animals that were with him in the ark; and God made a wind blow over the land, and the waters sank down and abated.

Poi Dio si ricordò di Noè, di tutti gli animali e di tutto il bestiame che era con lui nell’arca; e Dio fece passare un vento sulla terra e le acque si calmarono;

2 A lso the fountains of the deep and the windows of the heavens were closed, the gushing rain from the sky was checked,

le fonti dell’abisso e le cateratte del cielo furono chiuse, e cessò la pioggia dal cielo;

3 A nd the waters receded from the land continually. At the end of 150 days the waters had diminished.

le acque andarono via via ritirandosi di sulla terra, e alla fine di centocinquanta giorni cominciarono a diminuire.

4 O n the seventeenth day of the seventh month the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat.

Nel settimo mese, il diciassettesimo giorno del mese, l’arca si fermò sulle montagne dell’Ararat.

5 A nd the waters continued to diminish until the tenth month; on the first day of the tenth month the tops of the high hills were seen.

Le acque andarono diminuendo fino al decimo mese. Nel decimo mese, il primo giorno del mese, apparvero le vette dei monti.

6 A t the end of forty days Noah opened a window of the ark which he had made

Dopo quaranta giorni Noè aprì la finestra che aveva fatta nell’arca

7 A nd sent forth a raven, which kept going to and fro until the waters were dried up from the land.

e mandò fuori il corvo, il quale uscì, andando e tornando, finché le acque furono prosciugate sulla terra.

8 T hen he sent forth a dove to see if the waters had decreased from the surface of the ground.

Poi mandò fuori la colomba per vedere se le acque fossero diminuite sulla superficie della terra.

9 B ut the dove found no resting-place on which to roost, and she returned to him to the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole land. So he put forth his hand and drew her to him into the ark.

La colomba non trovò dove posare la pianta del suo piede e tornò a lui nell’arca, perché c’erano le acque sulla superficie di tutta la terra; ed egli stese la mano, la prese e la portò con sé dentro l’arca.

10 H e waited another seven days and again sent forth the dove out of the ark.

Aspettò altri sette giorni, poi mandò di nuovo la colomba fuori dell’arca.

11 A nd the dove came back to him in the evening, and behold, in her mouth was a newly sprouted and freshly plucked olive leaf! So Noah knew that the waters had subsided from the land.

E la colomba tornò da lui verso sera; ed ecco, aveva nel becco una foglia fresca d’ulivo. Così Noè capì che le acque erano diminuite sopra la terra.

12 T hen he waited another seven days and sent forth the dove, but she did not return to him any more.

Aspettò altri sette giorni, poi mandò fuori la colomba; ma essa non tornò più da lui.

13 I n the year 601, on the first day of the first month, the waters were drying up from the land. And Noah removed the covering of the ark and looked, and behold, the surface of the ground was drying.

L’anno seicentouno della vita di Noè, il primo mese, il primo giorno del mese, le acque erano asciugate sulla terra e Noè scoperchiò l’arca, guardò, ed ecco che la superficie del suolo era asciutta.

14 A nd on the twenty-seventh day of the second month the land was entirely dry.

Il secondo mese, il ventisettesimo giorno del mese, la terra era asciutta.

15 A nd God spoke to Noah, saying,

Dio parlò allora a Noè dicendo:

16 G o forth from the ark, you and your wife and your sons and their wives with you.

«Esci dall’arca tu, tua moglie, i tuoi figli e le mogli dei tuoi figli con te.

17 B ring forth every living thing that is with you of all flesh—birds and beasts and every creeping thing that creeps on the ground—that they may breed abundantly on the land and be fruitful and multiply upon the earth.

Tutti gli animali che sono con te, di ogni specie, volatili, bestiame e tutti i rettili che strisciano sulla terra, falli uscire con te, perché possano disseminarsi sulla terra, siano fecondi e si moltiplichino su di essa».

18 A nd Noah went forth, and his wife and his sons and their wives with him.

Noè uscì con i suoi figli, con sua moglie e con le mogli dei suoi figli.

19 E very beast, every creeping thing, every bird—and whatever moves on the land—went forth by families out of the ark.

Tutti gli animali, tutti i rettili, tutti gli uccelli, tutto quello che si muove sulla terra, secondo le loro famiglie, uscirono dall’arca.

20 A nd Noah built an altar to the Lord and took of every clean animal and of every clean fowl or bird and offered burnt offerings on the altar.

Noè costruì un altare al Signore; prese animali puri di ogni specie e uccelli puri di ogni specie e offrì olocausti sull’altare.

21 W hen the Lord smelled the pleasing odor, the Lord said to Himself, I will never again curse the ground because of man, for the imagination (the strong desire) of man’s heart is evil and wicked from his youth; neither will I ever again smite and destroy every living thing, as I have done.

Il Signore sentì un odore soave; e il Signore disse in cuor suo: «Io non maledirò più la terra a motivo dell’uomo, poiché il cuore dell’uomo concepisce disegni malvagi fin dall’adolescenza; non colpirò più ogni essere vivente come ho fatto.

22 W hile the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

Finché la terra durerà, semina e raccolta, freddo e caldo, estate e inverno, giorno e notte non cesseranno mai».
