1 C ome near, you nations, to hear; and hearken, you peoples! Let the earth hear, and all that is in it; the world, and all things that come forth from it.

Acérquense, naciones, y júntense para oír; ustedes, pueblos, presten atención. Que escuche la tierra y todo lo que hay en ella; el mundo y todo lo que produce.

2 F or the Lord is indignant against all nations, and His wrath is against all their host. He has utterly doomed them, He has given them over to slaughter.

El Señor está enojado contra todas las naciones; se ha indignado contra todas ellas; por eso va a destruirlas y a entregarlas al matadero.

3 T heir slain also shall be cast out, and the stench of their dead bodies shall rise, and the mountains shall flow with their blood.

Los que mueran en ellas quedarán abandonados, y sus cadáveres despedirán mal olor; la sangre de ellos hará que los montes se derritan.

4 A ll the host of the heavens shall be dissolved and crumble away, and the skies shall be rolled together like a scroll; and all their host shall drop like a faded leaf from the vine, and like a withered fig from the fig tree.

Se vendrá abajo todo el ejército de los cielos, como cuando se caen las hojas de las parras y de las higueras, y los cielos mismos se enrollarán como un pergamino.

5 B ecause My sword has been bathed and equipped in heaven, behold, it shall come down upon Edom, upon the people whom I have doomed for judgment.

Mi espada se embriagará en los cielos, y mi sentencia caerá sobre Edom, sobre el pueblo que he decidido exterminar.

6 T he sword of the Lord is filled with blood, it is gorged and greased with fatness—with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams. For the Lord has a sacrifice in Bozrah and a great slaughter in the land of Edom.

La espada del Señor está llena de sangre; está empapada de la grasa y de la sangre de los corderos y de los machos cabríos, y de la grasa de los riñones de carneros. En Bosra se ofrecen sacrificios en honor del Señor; ¡en Edom hay una gran matanza!

7 A nd the wild oxen shall fall with them, and the bullocks with the bulls; and their land shall be drunk and soaked with blood, and their dust made rich with fatness.

Entre los animales sacrificados hay búfalos, toros y becerros; ¡el país se empapa de sangre, y el suelo queda saturado de grasa!

8 F or the Lord has a day of vengeance, a year of recompense, for the cause of Zion.

Ciertamente ha llegado el día de la venganza del Señor; ¡ha llegado el año de darles su merecido a los que pelean contra Sión!

9 A nd the streams will be turned into pitch and its dust into brimstone, and its land will become burning pitch.

Sus arroyos se convertirán en brea; su polvo en azufre, y su tierra en brea encendida.

10 s hall not be quenched night or day; its smoke shall go up forever. From generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it forever and ever.

No se apagará de noche ni de día, ni su humo dejará de subir; por siempre será asolada, y nadie volverá jamás a pasar por ella.

11 B ut the pelican and the porcupine will possess it; the owl and the bittern and the raven will dwell in it. And He will stretch over it the measuring line of confusion and the plummet stones of chaos.

Los pelícanos y los erizos se adueñarán de ella, y la habitarán las lechuza y los cuervos; la medirán con cordeles de destrucción, y con plomadas de asolamiento.

12 T hey shall call its nobles to proclaim the kingdom, but nothing shall be there, and all its princes shall be no more.

Sus príncipes serán llamados príncipes sin reino, y a nada serán reducidos todos sus hombres importantes.

13 A nd thorns shall come up in its palaces and strongholds, nettles and brambles in its fortresses; and it shall be a habitation for jackals, an abode for ostriches.

En sus palacios crecerán espinos, y en sus fortalezas habrá ortigas y cardos; ¡se volverán cuevas de chacales y patios para los pollos de los avestruces.

14 A nd the wild beasts of the desert will meet here with howling creatures and the wild goat will call to his fellow; the night monster will settle there and find a place of rest.

Las fieras del desierto se encontrarán con las hienas, y las cabras salvajes llamarán a sus compañeros; también las lechuzas habitarán en ese lugar, y allí podrán descansar.

15 T here shall the arrow snake make her nest and lay her eggs and hatch them and gather her young under her shade; there shall the kites be gathered every one with its mate.

Allí los búhos anidarán y pondrán sus huevos; sacarán a sus pollos y los juntarán debajo de sus alas; allí también se juntarán los buitres, cada uno con su compañera.

16 S eek out of the book of the Lord and read: not one of these shall fail, none shall want and lack her mate. For the mouth has commanded, and His Spirit has gathered them.

Investiguen en el libro del Señor, y lean si alguno de ellos faltó. Pero no faltó ninguno de ellos ni su compañera, porque así lo ordenó su boca y los reunió su espíritu mismo.

17 A nd He has cast the lot for them, and His hand has portioned to by measuring line. They shall possess it forever; from generation to generation they shall dwell in it.

El Señor les echó suertes, y con su propia mano les repartió la tierra, que será su herencia para toda la vida, y allí vivirán de generación en generación.
