1 T he Spirit of God came upon Azariah son of Oded.

El espíritu de Dios vino sobre Azarías hijo de Obed,

2 A nd he went out to meet Asa and said to him, Hear me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin: the Lord is with you while you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you.

y éste salió al encuentro de Asa y le dijo: «Escúchenme ustedes, Asa y todo Judá y Benjamín: El Señor estará con ustedes, si ustedes están con él. Si lo buscan, lo hallarán; pero si lo dejan, también él los dejará.

3 N ow for a long time Israel was without the true God, without a teaching priest, and without law.

Israel pasó mucho tiempo sin un Dios verdadero y sin un sacerdote que los instruyera, y sin ley;

4 B ut when they in their trouble turned to the Lord, the God of Israel, and sought Him, He was found by them.

pero cuando en su angustia se volvieron al Señor y Dios de Israel, y lo buscaron, lo hallaron.

5 A nd in those times there was no peace to him who went out nor to him who came in, but great and vexing afflictions and disturbances were upon all the inhabitants of the countries.

En aquellos tiempos no había paz, ni para el que entraba ni para el que salía, sino que los habitantes de todas las naciones encaraban muchas aflicciones.

6 N ation was broke in pieces against nation, and city against city, for God vexed and troubled them with all sorts of adversity.

Un pueblo destruía a otro, y una ciudad atacaba a otra ciudad, porque Dios les enviaba toda clase de calamidades.

7 B e strong, therefore, and let not your hands be weak and slack, for your work shall be rewarded.

Pero si ustedes se esfuerzan, y no pierden el ánimo, todo lo que hagan tendrá su recompensa.»

8 A nd when Asa heard these words, the prophecy of Oded the prophet, he took courage and put away the abominable idols from all the land of Judah and Benjamin and from the cities which he had taken in the hill country of Ephraim; and he repaired the altar of the Lord which was in front of the porch or vestibule of the Lord.

Cuando Asa oyó las palabras y la profecía del profeta Azarías hijo de Obed, se animó y quitó de toda la tierra de Judá y de Benjamín, y de las ciudades que había conquistado en la región montañosa de Efraín, los ídolos repugnantes; además, reparó el altar del Señor que estaba frente al pórtico del Señor.

9 A nd he gathered all Judah and Benjamin and the strangers with them out of Ephraim, Manasseh, and Simeon, for they came over to Asa out of Israel in large numbers when they saw that the Lord his God was with him.

Luego reunió a todo Judá y Benjamín, y también a los forasteros de Efraín, Manasés y Simeón, pues al ver que el Señor su Dios estaba con Asa, muchos israelitas se le habían unido.

10 S o they gathered at Jerusalem in the third month of the fifteenth year of the reign of Asa.

El mes tercero del año decimoquinto del reinado de Asa se reunieron en Jerusalén,

11 A nd they sacrificed to the Lord on that day from the spoil which they had brought—700 oxen and 7, 000 sheep.

y del botín que habían obtenido, ese mismo día ofrecieron al Señor setecientos bueyes y siete mil ovejas.

12 A nd they entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, and to yearn for Him with all their heart’s desire and with all their soul;

Además, juraron solemnemente que con todo el corazón y con toda su alma buscarían al Señor y Dios de sus padres,

13 A nd that whoever would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, should be put to death, whether young or old, man or woman.

y que todo el que no buscara al Señor, Dios de Israel, moriría, sin importar que fuera grande o pequeño, hombre o mujer.

14 T hey took an oath to the Lord with a loud voice, with shouting, with trumpets, and with cornets.

Esto lo juraron ante el Señor a toda voz y con gran júbilo, al son de trompetas y bocinas.

15 A nd all Judah rejoiced at the oath, for they had sworn with all their heart and sought Him with their whole desire, and He was found by them. And the Lord gave them rest and peace round about.

Todos los de Judá se alegraron de este juramento; porque lo hicieron de todo corazón. Y como buscaron al Señor de todo corazón, lo hallaron; y el Señor les dio paz por toda la región.

16 A lso Maacah, King Asa’s mother, he removed from being queen mother, because she had made an abominable image for Asherah. Asa cut down her idol, crushed it, and burned it at the brook Kidron.

Asa llegó incluso a destituir a Macá, la reina madre, porque ella hizo una imagen de la diosa Asera; Asa destruyó la imagen hasta hacerla polvo, y la quemó a orillas del arroyo de Cedrón.

17 B ut the high places were not taken out of Israel. Nevertheless, the heart of Asa was blameless all his days.

A pesar de todo esto, y aunque el corazón de Asa fue perfecto durante toda su vida, los lugares altos no fueron quitados de Israel.

18 A nd he brought into the house of God the things that his father had dedicated and those he himself had dedicated—silver and gold and vessels.

Sin embargo, Asa llevó al templo de Dios toda la plata y el oro y los utensilios que su padre y él mismo habían consagrado,

19 A nd there was no more war until the thirty-fifth year of the reign of Asa.

y durante los treinta y cinco años del reinado de Asa no hubo más guerra.
