1 O Lord, remember what has come upon us! Look down and see our reproach (our national disgrace)!

Señor, recuerda lo que nos ha sucedido; ¡míranos, y toma en cuenta nuestro oprobio!

2 O ur inheritance has fallen over to strangers, our houses to foreigners.

Nuestra heredad ha pasado a manos ajenas; nuestras casas son ahora de gente extraña.

3 W e have become orphans and fatherless; our mothers are like widows.

Nos hemos quedado huérfanos, sin padre; nuestras madres se han quedado como viudas.

4 W e have had to pay money to drink the water that belongs to us; our wood is sold to us.

Pagamos por el agua que bebemos, y hasta la leña tenemos que comprarla.

5 O ur pursuers are upon our necks; we are weary and are allowed no rest.

Estamos sujetos a la persecución; nos fatigamos, no tenemos reposo.

6 W e have given the hand to the Egyptians and to the Assyrians to get food to satisfy.

Suplicantes extendimos la mano a los egipcios, y a los asirios les rogamos saciarnos de pan.

7 O ur fathers sinned and are no more, and we have borne their iniquities.

Nuestros padres pecaron, y murieron, ¡pero a nosotros nos tocó llevar el castigo!

8 S ervants and slaves rule over us; there is none to deliver us out of their hands.

Ahora los esclavos son nuestros señores, y no hay quien nos libre de sus manos.

9 W e get our bread at the peril of our lives because of the sword of the wilderness.

Desafiando a los guerreros del desierto, arriesgamos la vida para obtener nuestro pan.

10 O ur skin glows and is parched as from an oven because of the burning heat of famine.

El hambre nos hace arder en fiebre; ¡tenemos la piel requemada como un horno!

11 T hey ravished the women in Zion, the virgins in the cities of Judah.

En Sión violaron a nuestras mujeres; ¡en las ciudades de Judá violaron a nuestras doncellas!

12 T hey hung princes by their hands; the persons of elders were not respected.

A los príncipes los colgaron de las manos; ¡no mostraron ningún respeto por los viejos!

13 Y oung men carried millstones, and boys fell under wood.

A nuestros mejores hombres los obligaron a moler; ¡a nuestros niños los agobiaron bajo el peso de la leña!

14 T he elders have ceased from the city’s gate, the young men from their music.

Ya no se ven ancianos sentados a la puerta; los jóvenes dejaron de cantar.

15 C eased is the joy of our hearts; our dancing has turned into mourning.

Para nuestro corazón terminó la alegría; nuestras danzas se volvieron cantos de dolor.

16 T he crown has fallen from our head! Woe to us, for we have sinned!

Se nos cayó de la cabeza la corona; ¡Pobres de nosotros! ¡Somos pecadores!

17 B ecause of this our hearts are faint and sick; because of these things our eyes are dim and see darkly.

Por eso tenemos triste el corazón; por eso los ojos se nos han nublado.

18 A s for Mount Zion, which lies desolate, the jackals prowl over it!

Tan asolado está el monte de Sión que por él merodean las zorras.

19 B ut You, O Lord, remain and reign forever; Your throne endures from generation to generations.

Pero tú, Señor, eres el rey eterno; ¡tu trono permanecerá por toda la eternidad!

20 W hy do You forget us forever? Why do You forsake us so long?

¿Por qué te has olvidado de nosotros? ¿Por qué nos has abandonado tanto tiempo?

21 T urn us to Yourself, O Lord, and we shall be turned and restored! Renew our days as of old!—

¡Restáuranos, Señor, y nos volveremos a ti! ¡Haz de nuestra vida un nuevo comienzo!

22 O r have You utterly rejected us? Or are You exceedingly angry with us ?

Lo cierto es que nos has desechado; ¡muy grande ha sido tu enojo contra nosotros!
