1 O ne of the seven angels who had the seven bowls then came and spoke to me, saying, Come with me! I will show you the doom (sentence, judgment) of the great harlot (idolatress) who is seated on many waters,

Uno de los siete ángeles que tenían las siete copas, vino y me dijo: «Ven acá, y te mostraré el castigo para la gran ramera, la que está sentada sobre muchas aguas.

2 w ith whom the rulers of the earth have joined in prostitution (idolatry) and with the wine of whose immorality (idolatry) the inhabitants of the earth have become intoxicated.

Con ella han adulterado los reyes de la tierra, y los habitantes de la tierra se han embriagado con el vino de su inmoralidad sexual.»

3 A nd bore me away in the Spirit into a desert (wilderness), and I saw a woman seated on a scarlet beast that was all covered with blasphemous titles (names), and he had seven heads and ten horns.

Después el ángel me llevó en el Espíritu al desierto, y allí vi a una mujer sentada sobre una bestia escarlata, que tenía siete cabezas y diez cuernos, y estaba llena de nombres blasfemos.

4 T he woman was robed in purple and scarlet and bedecked with gold, precious stones, and pearls, holding in her hand a golden cup full of the accursed offenses and the filth of her lewdness and vice.

La mujer estaba vestida de púrpura y escarlata, y portaba adornos de oro, piedras preciosas y perlas. En la mano tenía una copa de oro, la cual rebosaba de cosas detestables y de la inmundicia de su inmoralidad sexual.

5 A nd on her forehead there was inscribed a name of mystery: Babylon the great, the mother of prostitutes (idolatresses) and of the filth and atrocities and abominations of the earth.

Inscrito en la frente ostentaba un nombre, cuyo sentido era un misterio: «La gran Babilonia, madre de las rameras y de las abominaciones de la tierra.»

6 I also saw that the woman was drunk, with the blood of the saints (God’s people) and the blood of the martyrs for Jesus. And when I saw her, I was utterly amazed and wondered greatly.

Vi que la mujer estaba ebria de la sangre de los santos, y de la sangre de los testigos de Jesús. Al verla, quedé muy asombrado.

7 B ut the angel said to me, Why do you wonder? I will explain to you the mystery of the woman, as well as of the beast having the seven heads and ten horns that carries her.

Pero el ángel me dijo: «¿Por qué te asombras? Yo te voy a decir cuál es el misterio de la mujer, y de la bestia en que viene, la bestia de siete cabezas y diez cuernos.

8 T he beast that you saw was, but is no more, and he is going to come up out of the Abyss (the bottomless pit) and proceed to go to perdition. And the inhabitants of the earth whose names have not been recorded in the Book of Life from the foundation of the world will be astonished when they look at the beast, because he was, but is no more, and he is to come.

La bestia que has visto, era pero ya no es; y está a punto de subir del abismo para ir a la perdición. Los habitantes de la tierra, cuyos nombres no están inscritos en el libro de la vida desde la fundación del mundo, se asombrarán al ver que la bestia era y ya no es, pero que reaparecerá.

9 T his calls for a mind with wisdom and intelligence. The seven heads are seven hills upon which the woman is sitting;

Aquí se verá la mente que tenga sabiduría: Las siete cabezas son siete montes, sobre los cuales se sienta la mujer,

10 A nd they are also seven kings, five of whom have fallen, one still exists; the other has not yet appeared, and when he does arrive, he must stay a brief time.

y son también siete reyes. Cinco de ellos ya no reinan; uno está reinando, y el otro aún no ha llegado; pero cuando venga, es preciso que reine algún tiempo.

11 A nd as for the beast that was, but now is no more, he is an eighth ruler (king, head), but he is of the seven and belongs to them, and he goes to perdition.

La bestia que era y ya no es, es también el octavo rey; y es uno de los siete, y va camino a la perdición.

12 A lso the ten horns that you observed are ten rulers (kings) who have as yet received no royal dominion, but together they are to receive power and authority as rulers for a single hour, along with the beast.

Los diez cuernos que has visto, son diez reyes que aún no han empezado a reinar; pero recibirán autoridad para reinar toda una hora, junto con la bestia.

13 T hese have one common policy (opinion, purpose), and they deliver their power and authority to the beast.

El propósito de estos reyes es el mismo, que es el de entregar a la bestia su poder y autoridad.

14 T hey will wage war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will triumph over them; for He is Lord of lords and King of kings—and those with Him and on His side are chosen and called and loyal and faithful followers.

Pelearán contra el Cordero, pero el Cordero los vencerá, porque él es Señor de señores y Rey de reyes; y a los que están con él se les llama “elegidos” y “fieles”.»

15 A nd said to me, The waters that you observed, where the harlot is seated, are races and multitudes and nations and dialects (languages).

El ángel también me dijo: «Las aguas que has visto, donde está sentada la ramera, son multitud de pueblos, naciones y lenguas.

16 A nd the ten horns that you saw, they and the beast will hate the harlot (the idolatrous woman); they will make her cheerless (bereaved, desolate), and they will strip her and eat up her flesh and utterly consume her with fire.

Y los diez cuernos y la bestia que viste aborrecerán a la ramera y la dejarán abandonada y desnuda; devorarán sus carnes, y la quemarán con fuego.

17 F or God has put it into their hearts to carry out His own purpose by acting in harmony in surrendering their royal power and authority to the beast, until the prophetic words (intentions and promises) of God shall be fulfilled.

Dios ha puesto en el corazón de ellos el ejecutar lo que él se ha propuesto hacer: se pondrán de acuerdo, y entregarán su reino a la bestia, hasta que se cumplan las palabras de Dios.

18 A nd the woman that you saw is herself the great city which dominates and controls the rulers and the leaders of the earth.

La mujer que has visto es la gran ciudad que reina sobre los reyes de la tierra.»
