1 I have told you all these things, so that you should not be offended (taken unawares and falter, or be caused to stumble and fall away).

»Les he dicho estas cosas, para que no tengan tropiezos.

2 T hey will put you out of (expel you from) the synagogues; but an hour is coming when whoever kills you will think and claim that he has offered service to God.

Ustedes serán expulsados de las sinagogas, y llegará el momento en que cualquiera que los mate, pensará que rinde un servicio a Dios.

3 A nd they will do this because they have not known the Father or Me.

Y esto lo harán porque no conocen al Padre ni a mí.

4 B ut I have told you these things now, so that when they occur you will remember that I told you of them. I did not say these things to you from the beginning, because I was with you.

Pero les he dicho estas cosas para que, cuando llegue ese momento, se acuerden de que ya se lo había dicho. La obra del Espíritu Santo »No les dije esto al principio, porque yo estaba con ustedes.

5 B ut now I am going to Him Who sent Me, yet none of you asks Me, Where are You going?

Pero ahora vuelvo al que me envió; y ninguno de ustedes me pregunta: “¿A dónde vas?”

6 B ut because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your hearts.

Al contrario, por esto que les he dicho, su corazón se ha llenado de tristeza.

7 H owever, I am telling you nothing but the truth when I say it is profitable (good, expedient, advantageous) for you that I go away. Because if I do not go away, the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you; but if I go away, I will send Him to you.

Pero les digo la verdad: les conviene que yo me vaya; porque si no me voy, el Consolador no vendrá a ustedes; pero si me voy, yo se lo enviaré.

8 A nd when He comes, He will convict and convince the world and bring demonstration to it about sin and about righteousness (uprightness of heart and right standing with God) and about judgment:

Y cuando él venga, convencerá al mundo de pecado, de justicia y de juicio.

9 A bout sin, because they do not believe in Me;

De pecado, por cuanto no creen en mí;

10 A bout righteousness (uprightness of heart and right standing with God), because I go to My Father, and you will see Me no longer;

de justicia, por cuanto voy al Padre, y no me verán más;

11 A bout judgment, because the ruler (evil genius, prince) of this world is judged and condemned and sentence already is passed upon him.

y de juicio, por cuanto el príncipe de este mundo ya ha sido juzgado.

12 I have still many things to say to you, but you are not able to bear them or to take them upon you or to grasp them now.

»Aún tengo muchas cosas que decirles, pero ahora no las pueden sobrellevar.

13 B ut when He, the Spirit of Truth (the Truth-giving Spirit) comes, He will guide you into all the Truth (the whole, full Truth). For He will not speak His own message; but He will tell whatever He hears, and He will announce and declare to you the things that are to come.

Pero cuando venga el Espíritu de verdad, él los guiará a toda la verdad; porque no hablará por su propia cuenta, sino que hablará todo lo que oiga, y les hará saber las cosas que habrán de venir.

14 H e will honor and glorify Me, because He will take of (receive, draw upon) what is Mine and will reveal (declare, disclose, transmit) it to you.

Él me glorificará, porque tomará de lo mío y se lo hará saber.

15 E verything that the Father has is Mine. That is what I meant when I said that He will take the things that are Mine and will reveal (declare, disclose, transmit) it to you.

Todo lo que tiene el Padre es mío; por eso dije que tomará de lo mío, y se lo dará a conocer a ustedes.

16 I n a little while you will no longer see Me, and again after a short while you will see Me.

Todavía un poco, y no me verán; y de nuevo un poco, y me verán.» La tristeza se convertirá en gozo

17 S o some of His disciples questioned among themselves, What does He mean when He tells us, In a little while you will no longer see Me, and again after a short while you will see Me, and, Because I go to My Father?

Entonces algunos de sus discípulos se dijeron unos a otros: «¿Qué es esto que nos dice: “Todavía un poco y no me verán; y de nuevo un poco, y me verán”; y también, “porque yo voy al Padre”?»

18 W hat does He mean by a little while? We do not know or understand what He is talking about.

Así que decían: «¿Qué es esto de “Todavía un poco”? ¡No sabemos de qué habla!»

19 J esus knew that they wanted to ask Him, so He said to them, Are you wondering and inquiring among yourselves what I meant when I said, In a little while you will no longer see Me, and again after a short while you will see Me?

Jesús se dio cuenta de que querían preguntarle, así que les dijo: «¿Se preguntan ustedes acerca de que dije: “Todavía un poco, y no me verán; y de nuevo un poco, y me verán”?

20 I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, that you shall weep and grieve, but the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy.

De cierto, de cierto les digo, que ustedes llorarán y lamentarán, mientras que el mundo se alegrará; pero aunque ustedes estén tristes, su tristeza se convertirá en gozo.

21 A woman, when she gives birth to a child, has grief (anguish, agony) because her time has come. But when she has delivered the child, she no longer remembers her pain (trouble, anguish) because she is so glad that a man (a child, a human being) has been born into the world.

Cuando la mujer da a luz, siente dolor porque ha llegado su hora; pero después de que ha dado a luz al niño, ni se acuerda de la angustia, por la alegría de que haya nacido un hombre en el mundo.

22 S o for the present you are also in sorrow (in distress and depressed); but I will see you again and your hearts will rejoice, and no one can take from you your joy (gladness, delight).

También ustedes ahora están tristes; pero yo los volveré a ver, y su corazón se alegrará, y nadie les arrebatará su alegría.

23 A nd when that time comes, you will ask nothing of Me. I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, that My Father will grant you whatever you ask in My Name '> presenting all that I Am ].

En aquel día ya no me preguntarán nada. De cierto, de cierto les digo, que todo lo que pidan al Padre, en mi nombre, él se lo concederá.

24 U p to this time you have not asked a thing in My Name '> presenting all that I Am ]; but now ask and keep on asking and you will receive, so that your joy (gladness, delight) may be full and complete.

Hasta ahora nada han pedido en mi nombre; pidan y recibirán, para que su alegría se vea cumplida. Yo he vencido al mundo

25 I have told you these things in parables (veiled language, allegories, dark sayings); the hour is now coming when I shall no longer speak to you in figures of speech, but I shall tell you about the Father in plain words and openly (without reserve).

»Les he hablado de esto en alegorías, pero viene la hora en que ya no les hablaré por alegorías, sino que claramente les anunciaré acerca del Padre.

26 A t that time you will ask (pray) in My Name; and I am not saying that I will ask the Father on your behalf.

En aquel día ustedes pedirán en mi nombre; y no les digo que yo rogaré al Padre por ustedes,

27 F or the Father Himself loves you because you have loved Me and have believed that I came out from the Father.

pues el Padre mismo los ama, porque ustedes me han amado y han creído que yo salí de Dios.

28 I came out from the Father and have come into the world; again, I am leaving the world and going to the Father.

Salí del Padre, y he venido al mundo; otra vez dejo el mundo, y voy al Padre.»

29 H is disciples said, Ah, now You are speaking plainly to us and not in parables (veiled language and figures of speech)!

Sus discípulos le dijeron: «Ahora hablas claramente, y ya no dices ninguna alegoría.

30 N ow we know that You are acquainted with everything and have no need to be asked questions. Because of this we believe that you came from God.

Ahora entendemos que sabes todas las cosas, y no necesitas que nadie te pregunte; por esto creemos que has salido de Dios.»

31 J esus answered them, Do you now believe?

Jesús les respondió: «¿Ahora creen?

32 B ut take notice, the hour is coming, and it has arrived, when you will all be dispersed and scattered, every man to his own home, leaving Me alone. Yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me.

La hora viene, y ya ha llegado, en que ustedes serán esparcidos, cada uno por su lado; y me dejarán solo. Pero no estoy solo, porque el Padre está conmigo.

33 I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer! For I have overcome the world.

Estas cosas les he hablado para que en mí tengan paz. En el mundo tendrán aflicción; pero confíen, yo he vencido al mundo.»
