1 I t occurred one Sabbath, when went for a meal at the house of one of the ruling Pharisees, that they were watching Him.

En cierta ocasión, Jesús fue a comer a la casa de un fariseo muy importante. Era un día de reposo, y ellos estaban acechándolo.

2 A nd behold, in front of Him there was a man who had dropsy.

Delante de Jesús estaba un hombre enfermo de hidropesía,

3 A nd Jesus asked the lawyers and the Pharisees, Is it lawful and right to cure on the Sabbath or not?

y Jesús les preguntó a los intérpretes de la ley y a los fariseos: «¿Está permitido sanar en el día de reposo?»

4 B ut they kept silent. Then He took hold and cured him and sent him away.

Pero ellos no respondieron. Entonces Jesús tomó al hombre de la mano, lo sanó y lo despidió;

5 A nd He said to them, Which of you, having a son or a donkey or an ox that has fallen into a well, will not at once pull him out on the Sabbath day?

luego se dirigió a ellos, y les dijo: «¿Quién de ustedes, si su asno o su buey se cae en un pozo, no lo saca enseguida, aunque sea en día de reposo?»

6 A nd they were unable to reply to this.

Y nadie podía responderle. Los convidados a las bodas

7 N ow He told a parable to those who were invited, He noticed how they were selecting the places of honor, saying to them,

Cuando Jesús vio que los invitados a la mesa escogían los mejores lugares, les contó una parábola:

8 W hen you are invited by anyone to a marriage feast, do not recline on the chief seat, lest a more distinguished person than you has been invited by him,

«Cuando te inviten a una boda, no vayas a sentarte en el mejor lugar, no sea que otro de los invitados sea más importante que tú,

9 A nd he who invited both of you will come to you and say, Let this man have the place. Then, with humiliation and a guilty sense of impropriety, you will begin to take the lowest place.

y cuando venga el anfitrión te diga: “Dale tu lugar a este otro”; porque entonces, con toda vergüenza, tendrás que ir a ocupar el último lugar.

10 B ut when you are invited, go and recline in the lowest place, so that when your host comes in, he may say to you, Friend, go up higher! Then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit with you.

Así que, cuando seas invitado, ve más bien a sentarte en el último lugar, para que cuando venga el anfitrión te diga: “Amigo mío, ven y siéntate más adelante”. Así serás honrado delante de los otros invitados a la mesa.

11 F or everyone who exalts himself will be humbled (ranked below others who are honored or rewarded), and he who humbles himself (keeps a modest opinion of himself and behaves accordingly) will be exalted (elevated in rank).

Porque todo el que se enaltece, será humillado; y el que se humilla, será enaltecido.»

12 J esus also said to the man who had invited Him, When you give a dinner or a supper, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or your wealthy neighbors, lest perhaps they also invite you in return, and so you are paid back.

También le dijo a su anfitrión: «Cuando ofrezcas una comida o una cena, no invites a tus amigos ni a tus hermanos, ni a tus parientes y vecinos ricos, no sea que ellos también te vuelvan a invitar, y quedes así compensado.

13 B ut when you give a banquet or a reception, invite the poor, the disabled, the lame, and the blind.

Al contrario, cuando ofrezcas un banquete, invita a los pobres y a los mancos, a los cojos y a los ciegos,

14 T hen you will be blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied), because they have no way of repaying you, and you will be recompensed at the resurrection of the just (upright).

y así serás dichoso. Porque aunque ellos no te puedan devolver la invitación, tu recompensa la recibirás en la resurrección de los justos.» Parábola de la gran cena

15 W hen one of those who reclined with Him heard this, he said to Him, Blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied) is he who shall eat bread in the kingdom of God!

Uno de los que estaban sentados con él a la mesa oyó esto, y le dijo: «Dichoso el que participe del banquete en el reino de Dios.»

16 B ut Jesus said to him, A man was once giving a great supper and invited many;

Entonces Jesús le dijo: «Un hombre ofreció un gran banquete, e invitó a muchos.

17 A nd at the hour for the supper he sent his servant to say to those who had been invited, Come, for all is now ready.

A la hora del banquete envió a su siervo a decir a los invitados: “Vengan, que la mesa ya está servida.”

18 B ut they all alike began to make excuses and to beg off. The first said to him, I have bought a piece of land, and I have to go out and see it; I beg you, have me excused.

Pero todos ellos comenzaron a disculparse. El primero dijo: “Acabo de comprar un terreno, y tengo que ir a verlo. Por favor, discúlpame.”

19 A nd another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to examine and put my approval on them; I beg you, have me excused.

Otro dijo: “Acabo de comprar cinco yuntas de bueyes, y voy a probarlas. Por favor, discúlpame.”

20 A nd another said, I have married a wife, and because of this I am unable to come.

Y otro más dijo: “Acabo de casarme, así que no puedo asistir.”

21 S o the servant came and reported these to his master. Then the master of the house said in wrath to his servant, Go quickly into the great streets and the small streets of the city and bring in here the poor and the disabled and the blind and the lame.

Cuando el siervo regresó, le comunicó todo esto a su señor. Entonces el dueño de la casa se enojó, y le dijo a su siervo: “Ve enseguida por las plazas y por las calles de la ciudad, y trae acá a los pobres, a los mancos, a los cojos y a los ciegos.”

22 A nd the servant said, Sir, what you have commanded me to do has been done, and yet there is room.

Cuando el siervo le dijo: “Señor, se ha hecho lo que mandaste hacer, y todavía hay lugar”,

23 T hen the master said to the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges and urge and constrain to yield and come in, so that my house may be filled.

el señor dijo al siervo: “Ve entonces por los caminos y por los atajos, y hazlos entrar por la fuerza. ¡Quiero que se llene mi casa!

24 F or I tell you, not one of those who were invited shall taste my supper.

Quiero decirles que ninguno de los que fueron invitados disfrutará de mi cena.”» Lo que cuesta seguir a Cristo

25 N ow huge crowds were going along with, and He turned and said to them,

Como grandes multitudes lo seguían, Jesús se volvió a ellos y les dijo:

26 I f anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother '> in the sense of indifference to or relative disregard for them in comparison with his attitude toward God] and his wife and children and brothers and sisters— and even his own life also—he cannot be My disciple.

«Si alguno viene a mí, y no renuncia a su padre y a su madre, ni a su mujer y sus hijos, ni a sus hermanos y hermanas, y ni siquiera a su propia vida, no puede ser mi discípulo.

27 W hoever does not persevere and carry his own cross and come after (follow) Me cannot be My disciple.

Y el que no toma su cruz y me sigue, no puede ser mi discípulo.

28 F or which of you, wishing to build a farm building, does not first sit down and calculate the cost whether he has sufficient means to finish it?

Porque ¿quién de ustedes que quiera levantar una torre, no se sienta primero a calcular los costos, para ver si tiene todo lo que necesita para terminarla?

29 O therwise, when he has laid the foundation and is unable to complete, all who see it will begin to mock and jeer at him,

No sea que después de haber puesto los cimientos, se dé cuenta de que no puede terminarla, y todos los que lo sepan comiencen a burlarse de él

30 S aying, This man began to build and was not able ( worth enough) to finish.

y digan: “Este hombre comenzó a construir, y no pudo terminar.”

31 O r what king, going out to engage in conflict with another king, will not first sit down and consider and take counsel whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand?

¿O qué rey que marche a la guerra contra otro rey, no se sienta primero a calcular si puede hacerle frente con diez mil soldados al que viene a atacarlo con veinte mil?

32 A nd if he cannot, when the other king is still a great way off, he sends an envoy and asks the terms of peace.

Si no puede hacerle frente, envía una embajada al otro rey cuando éste todavía está lejos, y le propone condiciones de paz.

33 S o then, any of you who does not forsake (renounce, surrender claim to, give up, say good-bye to) all that he has cannot be My disciple.

Así también, cualquiera de ustedes que no renuncia a todo lo que tiene, no puede ser mi discípulo. Cuando la sal pierde su sabor

34 S alt is good, but if salt has lost its strength and has become saltless (insipid, flat), how shall its saltness be restored?

»La sal es buena, pero si se vuelve insípida, ¿con qué puede recuperar su sabor?

35 I t is fit neither for the land nor for the manure heap; men throw it away. He who has ears to hear, let him listen and consider and comprehend by hearing!

No sirve ni para la tierra ni para el montón de abono, y hay que tirarla. El que tenga oídos para oír, que oiga.»
