1 I f you will return, O Israel, says the Lord, if you will return to Me, and if you will put away your abominable false gods out of My sight and not stray or waver,

«¡Ah Israel, vuélvete a mí! ¡Cómo quisiera que te volvieras a mí! ¡Cómo quisiera que quitaras de mi vista tus actos repugnantes, y no anduvieras de acá para allá! —Palabra del Señor.

2 A nd if you swear, As the Lord lives, in truth, in judgment and justice, and in righteousness (uprightness in every area and relation), then the nations will bless themselves in Him and in Him will they glory.

»Si con la verdad, la justicia y el derecho juraras: “¡Vive el Señor!”, entonces las naciones serán plenamente bendecidas por él, y en él se gloriarán.

3 F or thus says the Lord to the men of Judah and to Jerusalem: Break up your ground left uncultivated for a season, so that you may not sow among thorns.

Porque así dice el Señor a todos los de Judá y de Jerusalén: “Aren ustedes sus campos, y no siembren entre los espinos.

4 C ircumcise yourselves to the Lord and take away the foreskins of your hearts, you men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem, lest My wrath go forth like fire and burn so that no one can quench it because of the evil of your doings.

Hombres de Judá, y habitantes de Jerusalén: ¡Circuncídense en honor del Señor! ¡Quiten de su corazón lo que en él hay de pagano! De lo contrario, y por causa de sus malvadas acciones, mi ira se encenderá como un fuego, y arderá y nadie podrá apagarla.” Judá ante la amenaza de una invasión

5 D eclare in Judah and publish in Jerusalem and say: Blow the trumpet in the land; cry aloud and say: Assemble yourselves, and let us go into the fortified cities.

»Anuncien esto en Judá; proclámenlo en Jerusalén. Toquen trompeta en la tierra; júntense y pregónenlo. Digan: “Reunámonos y entremos en las ciudades fortificadas.”

6 R aise a standard toward Zion! Flee for safety, stay not, for I bring evil from the north, and great destruction.

Icen la bandera en Sión, y huyan sin detenerse, porque yo estoy trayendo del norte una calamidad, ¡una gran destrucción!

7 A lion has gone up from his thicket, and a destroyer of nations is on his way. He has gone forth from his place to make your land a desolate waste; and your cities shall be left in ruins without an inhabitant.

Ya ha salido el león de la espesura; ya está en marcha el destructor de naciones; ya ha salido de su cueva para dejar tu tierra en ruinas. Tus ciudades quedarán desoladas y sin habitantes.»

8 F or this, gird yourselves with sackcloth, lament and wail, for the fierce anger of the Lord has not turned back from us.

Por lo tanto, vístanse de cilicio; lloren y hagan lamentos, porque la ira del Señor no se ha apartado de nosotros.

9 A nd it shall be in that day, says the Lord, that the understanding and courage of the king shall fail (be paralyzed), and also that of the princes; the priests shall be appalled and the prophets astounded and dazed with horror.

Cuando llegue ese día, desfallecerá el corazón del rey y el corazón de los príncipes; los sacerdotes se quedarán atónitos, y los profetas no podrán creerlo. —Palabra del Señor.

10 T hen I said, Alas, Lord God! Surely You have greatly deceived and misled this people and Jerusalem, saying, You shall have peace, whereas the sword has reached to life.

Yo exclamé: «¡Ay, Señor y Dios! ¡Grandemente has engañado a este pueblo y a Jerusalén! Tú le prometiste que viviría en paz, ¡y ahora pende la espada sobre su cuello!»

11 A t that time it will be said to this people and to Jerusalem, A hot wind from the bare heights in the wilderness against the daughter of My people—not to fan or cleanse

Cuando llegue el momento, se le dirá a este pueblo, y también a Jerusalén: «Desde las altas dunas del desierto sopla un viento calcinante sobre la hija de mi pueblo. No viene a aventar el trigo ni a limpiarlo.

12 A wind too strong and full for winnowing comes at My word. Now I will also speak in judgment against.

Pero de mi parte vendrá un viento más intenso que éste, porque yo mismo voy a dictar sentencia contra ellos.»

13 B ehold, comes up like clouds, his chariots like the whirlwind; his horses are swifter than eagles. Woe to us, for we are ruined (destroyed)!

¡Mírenlo! ¡Se levanta como nube! ¡Su carro parece un torbellino! ¡Sus caballos son más ligeros que las águilas! ¡Ay de nosotros, nos van a hacer pedazos!

14 O Jerusalem, wash your heart from wickedness, that you may be saved! How long shall your iniquitous and grossly offensive thoughts lodge within you?

Limpia tu corazón de la maldad, Jerusalén, y saldrás bien librada. ¿Hasta cuándo vas a dar cabida en ti pensamientos tan malvados?

15 F or a voice declares from Dan and proclaims evil from Mount Ephraim.

Desde Dan, una voz da las malas noticias; desde Efraín se da a conocer el desastre.

16 W arn the nations; announce to Jerusalem that besiegers are coming from a far country, and they shout against the cities of Judah.

Díganselo a las naciones, y háganselo saber a Jerusalén: «Han llegado soldados de un país lejano, y ya lanzan alaridos contra las ciudades de Judá.

17 L ike keepers of a field they are against her round about, because she has been rebellious against Me, says the Lord.

Se han apostado a su alrededor, como si vigilaran un campo. Y es que ella se rebeló contra mí.» —Palabra del Señor.

18 Y our ways and your doings have brought these things upon you. This is your calamity and doom; surely it is bitter, for surely it reaches your very heart!

Esto te ha pasado por tu manera de ser y de actuar. Esto es por causa de tu maldad. Por eso la amargura te calará hasta el corazón.

19 M y anguish, my anguish! I writhe in pain! Oh, the walls of my heart! My heart is disquieted and throbs aloud within me; I cannot be silent! For I have heard the sound of the trumpet, the alarm of war.

¡Cómo me duelen las entrañas! ¡Cómo me duele el corazón! ¡Siento que el corazón se me sale! ¡Ay, alma mía, no puedes guardar silencio, pues has oído los toques de trompeta y los alaridos de guerra!

20 N ews of one violent disaster and calamity comes close after another, for the whole land is laid waste; suddenly are my tents spoiled and destroyed, and my curtains ruined in a moment.

Ya se habla de un desastre tras otro. Todo el país está siendo devastado. ¡Ora destruyen mis carpas, ora destruyen mis campamentos!

21 h ow long must I see the flag and hear the sound of the trumpet ?

¿Hasta cuándo tendré que ver agitarse las banderas, y oír los toques de trompeta?

22 f or My people are stupid, says the Lord; they do not know and understand Me. They are thickheaded children, and they have no understanding. They are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.

«Y es que mi pueblo es necio, y no me conoce; son gente que no piensa ni entiende; son sabios para hacer el mal, pero no saben hacer el bien.»

23 I looked at the land, and behold, it was waste and vacant (void); and at the heavens, and they had no light.

Me fijé en la tierra, y la vi desordenada y vacía. Me fijé en los cielos, y no había en ellos luz.

24 I looked at the mountains, and behold, they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly to and fro.

Me fijé en los montes, y los vi temblar, y todas las colinas se estremecían.

25 I looked, and behold, there was no man, and all the birds of the air had fled.

Me fijé, y no había un solo ser humano, y todas las aves del cielo habían desaparecido.

26 I looked, and behold, the fruitful land was a desert, and all its cities were laid waste before the Lord’s presence, before His fierce anger.

Me fijé, y los ricos viñedos eran ahora un desierto, y todas sus ciudades habían quedado en ruinas. ¡Y esto lo hizo el Señor! ¡Esto lo hizo el ardor de su ira!

27 F or thus says the Lord: The whole land will be a desolation, yet I will not make a full and complete end of it.

Porque así dijo el Señor: «Toda la tierra será asolada; pero no la destruiré por completo.

28 F or this will the earth mourn and the heavens above be black; because I have spoken, I have purposed, and I will not relent, nor will I turn back.

Por esto la tierra se cubrirá de luto, y los altos cielos se envolverán en tinieblas. Ya lo he dicho, y no me va a pesar hacerlo; ya lo he decidido, y no voy a desistir.»

29 E very city flees because of the noise of the horsemen and bowmen. They go into the thickets and climb among the rocks; every city is forsaken, and not a man dwells in them.

Ante el estruendo de la caballería y de los flecheros huyó toda la ciudad. Corrieron a las espesuras de los bosques, y treparon por los peñascos. Todas las ciudades quedaron abandonadas; no quedó en ellas un solo habitante.

30 A nd you, when you are made desolate, what will you do? Though you clothe yourself with scarlet, though you deck yourself with ornaments of gold, though you paint your eyelids and make them look farther apart, in vain you beautify yourself. Your lovers (allies) despise you; they seek your life.

Y tú, ciudad en ruinas, ¿qué vas a hacer ahora? De nada va a servirte que te vistas de púrpura y te atavíes con oro, o que te pintes los ojos. Tus amantes te van a rechazar, e intentarán matarte.

31 F or I have heard a cry as of a woman in travail, the anguish as of one who brings forth her first child—the cry of the Daughter of Zion, who gasps for breath, who spreads her hands, saying, Woe is me now! I am fainting before the murderers.

Ya escucho el clamor de una que está en labor de parto. Es como la voz angustiosa de una primeriza. Es la voz de la hija de Sión, que llora y extiende las manos. Y dice: «¡Ay de mí! ¡Mi ánimo decae por causa de los que quieren matarme!»
