1 T hen Job answered,

Job le respondió lo siguiente:

2 E ven today is my complaint rebellious and bitter; my stroke is heavier than my groaning.

«Hoy también siento una gran amargura; mis heridas son más grandes que mi llanto.

3 O h, that I knew where I might find Him, that I might come even to His seat!

¡Cómo quisiera saber dónde hallar a Dios! ¡Iría a verlo hasta donde él se encontrara!

4 I would lay my cause before Him and fill my mouth with arguments.

En su presencia le expondría mi caso, pues mi boca está llena de argumentos.

5 I would learn what He would answer me, and understand what He would say to me.

Creo saber lo que él me respondería, y creo que comprendería lo que me dijera.

6 W ould He plead against me with His great power? No, He would give heed to me.

No creo que él desplegaría su poder contra mí; más bien, creo que él entendería mi sufrimiento.

7 T here the righteous could reason with Him; so I should be acquitted by my Judge forever.

Ante Dios, el justo puede razonar con él, así que yo quedaría absuelto para siempre.

8 B ehold, I go forward, but He is not there; I go backward, but I cannot perceive Him;

»Busco a Dios en el oriente, y no lo encuentro; me dirijo al occidente, y no está allí.

9 O n the left hand where He works, but I cannot behold Him; He turns Himself to the right hand, but I cannot see Him.

Me vuelvo hacia el norte, y no logro verlo; me vuelvo entonces al sur, y él se esconde de mí.

10 B ut He knows the way that I take. When He has tried me, I shall come forth as refined gold.

Pero Dios sabe por dónde ando; me pondrá a prueba, y saldré refinado como el oro.

11 M y foot has held fast to His steps; His ways have I kept and not turned aside.

Mis pies han seguido sus pisadas; seguí su camino, sin apartarme de él.

12 I have not gone back from the commandment of His lips; I have esteemed and treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food.

Nunca me he apartado de sus mandamientos; sus palabras me son más preciadas que la comida.

13 B ut He is unchangeable, and who can turn Him? And what He wants to do, that He does.

Si él decide algo, ¿quién puede hacerlo cambiar? ¡Él lleva a cabo todo lo que se propone!

14 F or He performs planned for me, and of many such matters He is mindful.

Así que hará conmigo lo que se ha propuesto, y es mucho lo que él ha decidido hacer.

15 T herefore am I troubled and terrified at His presence; when I consider, I am in dread and afraid of Him.

En su presencia, me invade un gran temor; si pienso en ello, me pongo a temblar.

16 F or God has made my heart faint, timid, and broken, and the Almighty has terrified me,

Dios me debilita el corazón; el Todopoderoso me tiene aterrado.

17 B ecause I was not cut off before the darkness, neither has He covered the thick darkness from my face.

¿Por qué no me quitaron la vida aquella noche? ¿Por qué no me cubrieron el rostro en la oscuridad?
